Well I'm one of those "Games are art" Hippies that Yahtzee will act like in his review of the game. Those who actually wants some true creativity in games, not just Halo but on mars with a hammer or some shit like that.
(Cue Red Faction Fanboys to the Tune of Seek and Destroy by Metallica.)
Yeah, that's a pretty ignorant statement.
Want some creativity? Red Faction, not the one from this generation, was one of, if not the first game to allow for non-scripted terrain deformation. Including buildings. So, to request something different from an IP that is built around that thing is a bit... silly. That would be like asking Rock Band to turn in to an action rpg that is controlled with your guitar, drum, or mic.
Not every game that is released has to be a unique and different experience. There's only so much you can do with video games that is actually fun. The point of IP's and genres is so you can stick to one you enjoy and play it. It's almost always been like this.
And no, I haven't played the new Red Faction. It's not on my 'to do list'.
Edit: Further, seeing as how very, very few games have terrain deformation, and even fewer (none other than Red Faction as far as I'm aware) have the entire game focus around that point... how can you even say that Red Faction is Halo on Mars? That would be like saying that Doom is Halo on Mars. Absurd.
