It is possible that they also copyrighted the name of the Egyptian god Horus.
Horus in space...... hmmmmmm, sounds familiar doesn't it?

Hmm... You're right in that there are 7 named Archangels... but Archangels are NOT Seraphs. In fact, Archangels are far lower down in the angel heirarchy (I'm not religious but I AM fascinated with mythology).

Someone want to find out who currently has the Stargate License?
Speaking of angels, wouldn't it be nice to see someone use the actual discriptions? They're quite interesting and far more intimidating than "winged humanoid in toga and occasionally roman armour ceremonial muscle cuirasses". Especially cherubs.
Ha! Yes. Cherubim would be funny to see. Especially as most people would be expecting those fat winged babies.

At the same time though, some of the designs would just be ridiculous. Ophanim for example.

Oh the Too Human syndrome.
If Bungie made Too Human it would be 100x better. Fact :p,

OT: Can't wait to see what Bungie can cook up now, hope Activision don't restrict them =\

A Sci-fi re-imagining of not only Biblical themes but... hold on to your socks... Egyptian themes!
Whooaaa jump to conclusions much? Have you ever read a book with an unusual character picked from a histroical/biblical figure? I'm betting probably yes. Was that book a sci-fi reimagining of whatever story the name came from... probably not. It was chosen because it had some significance, or in this case probably because it just sounded badass?
I applaud bungie for making their 'pretteh sparkly gamez';- it makes a pleasant change from brown and grey.

My theory:

Alternate history where Egyptians discover space travel, then do cool things.
Thats what I got. Not so good at this...

Still, looking forward to it.

So long as its not about some card game or something.
Nah it'll likely be the typical chestnut of 'The Egyptians were aliens!'

How the archangels will factor in, I don't know.

However, saying all this I've never really been interested in Bungie games.
Not a bit Sci-fi guy.

Actually, that's a pretty realistic guess. A concept like this will allow Bungie to do something different, but stay in the confines of what they know best- FPSs and sci-fi.
But Bungie has done fantasy AND cyberpunk...

Though, I guess Marathon and Halo were there big series...

Being a egyptian studier, Osiris Means the god of death, the man who would choose if the dead were good enough to be sent into the afterlife.

I'm hoping they make something egyptian..that would be cool

Right now all I can think of is that Bungie will be systematically copyrighting random names and such over the next year or so. Then, they release the most awesome game imaginable that has nothing to do with any of them (or any of their previous IP's).

That's probably not going to happen.

This could be very interesting. I can't wait until they finally unveil it.

My first thought was that Real U gave up on the Otherland MMO [http://www.mmorpg.com/blogs/Daedren/102008/2714_Otherland-MMO-Cyberpunk-Not-so-much-] and Bungie's snapped it up for some reason. In the book series, the online avatars of the corporate bad guys were all Egyptian deities, although angels didn't appear at all IIRC.

Otherwise, i do love mythology of any kind and can't wait to see what Bungie does with this.

You think we're taking this too literally? Writers use names from mythology to describe all sorts of things. For all we know, "Osiris" could be the name of a space ship, while the "Seven Seraphs" could be just an important group of people.

I think it would be funny if they trademarked these just because they wanted to own these gods and assorted angels.

With Halo's success, it's not like anyone would tell them, "no".

Wait, I thought the Seraphs, or Seraphim, were at the top of the sphere, and the Archangels near the bottom. Or is it different in the original Jewish version? I'm pretty sure it is, but I could've sworn the Archangels and Seraphs were still two different classes.

Does this mean my indie-game idea about that verse where an angel has to go kill a few thousand people in a night is ruined?

How could it be a wild goose chase?

Bungie Employee #1: "You know what would be funny? Making a bunch of jackasses think we're doing something involving Seraphs and Osiris!"

Bungie Employee #2: "FUCK YEAH! I'm already registering the domain names!"
Just wait, next month they are going to make us think they are making a game that has something to do with Egyptians, ponies, and a small gelatinous blob name "gorp". The guys at bungie would have to have some sick sense of humor.
