Actually women in extremely fit physical condition tend to have much shorter or no periods at all, it's a common occurance among professional female athletes, and they will often stop training if they want to try and have children. The military also controls it well with their female soldiers, the only possible position where it would be problematic would be special forces spending extended time behind enemy lines, which with modern military tactics, is kind of rare nowadays (of course this is discounting the difference in physical requirements for special forces as well).Syzygy23 said:There's a reason men have always been the ones on the front lines. There are certain... periods of time... where women are less than combat-ready. Not only that, but there's always the risk of pregnancy while on active duty.
Men are always combat ready and don't get paid maternity leave. You can strike anyone any time AND it keeps your overhead costs down.
Still, doesn't mean women still can't kick just as much ass. Outside of those conditional modifiers of course. I dunno how Samus does it, maybe she had surgery or something?

I think the big influence was the Change in the law that made it so the Pentagon can no longer forbid women from front line combat roles. The law is pretty recent but it probably was a realism deal, Female soldiers were not allowed into front line combat roles, I think fighter pilot was an exception but I'm not sure and would only be in combat in ambush situations (to be fair, a huge percentage of battles in the past wars were ambush situations.) I do think that now that the law is gone it would be more realistic to have women in the game on the front lines. It won't be long to have more women in those roles because Front line roles have a higher rate of promotion than non combat roles. There is still the physical exam, which won't be lowered for women, but it won't be impossible for them to pass, just easier for males due to the fact the male body tends to have higher upper body strength, which is important, you need soldiers that are capable of carrying a fallen comrade to the medical chopper.Rebel_Raven said:Kudos to IW! I'm genuinely surprised. Now CoD has gone from a game series I don't give a damn about to a series I'll look into more.
If I can has bots in multiplayer, I don't see a reason to not get the game since the community's the major turn off for me. That, and up until now it's been a sausage-fest shooter.
It doesn't take much to make an inclusive game that makes people feel more welcome, it seems. It's a welcome step forward, IMO.
I wonder if Jim had any influence at all?
You raise solid points! I'm just kinda optimistic that Jim Sterling is actually impacting the game industry.nogitsune said:I think the big influence was the Change in the law that made it so the Pentagon can no longer forbid women from front line combat roles. Still it's really good to see games to acknowledge the changes in the military, hopefully the next batch will have women and gay soldiers in the campaign.
If people like Jim actually have an impact i better find myself a new hobby because oh good lord... Anywho i think the poster you replied to was probably more on spot.Rebel_Raven said:You raise solid points! I'm just kinda optimistic that Jim Sterling is actually impacting the game industry.
It's also likely that modern advancements in warfare have increased the odds of women being allowed on front lines. Not that, AFAIK, the soldiers in CoD ever lugged full equipment.
There's already call of Duty porn, usually involving Price and Ghost fucking or the Black ops characters. Oh wait you meant Call of Duty Porn with a male and a female.crepesack said:How long until the call of duty based pornographic fanfics?
a week? two weeks? a day?
I used to play call of duty semi-competitively but I quit a few years ago. I don't really know if I would have cared that much about having female models in game or would have noticed.
While I don't know about that particular community, I never had the impression of being treated differently while playing female characters in other online shooters (and not talking in voice chat, obviously). For the most part you don't really notice your opponent's gender. So, judging by my own (limited) experience, I'd be guardedly optimistic that including female player models won't lead to a deterioration in any game that does this.ShiningAmber said:I think it's a good thing. I don't play COD, but there are women on the battlefields and in service in real life. So, why not video games?
I am betting a whole mess of sexist jokes and harassment are going to be prevalent when this goes live though :/ I know that community doesn't have the best reputation of being mature.
I bring up the WoW bit because this could just be the result of an at home project that they brought in.White Lightning said:I'm not sure what the WoW bit had to do with this but I guess that's kind of neat, too bad no one making COD cares enough to do something like that...

1) You've never played Battlefield MP
2) You most likely aren't interested in ever playing Battlefield MP
They probably will, I'm sure it'll be obvious seeing the player model what gender they are. Which as you pointed out, when fully kitted they should basically look the same.Archer666 said:So they made a female model for a multiplayer mode. A female model who's going to be kitted out so she'll look identical to a male model unless they go full idiot and have boob kevlar or something. Way to make a pointless gesture and waste some cash, I suppose.
