Calling All Non-Americans!!!: America?

I live in Canada and have all my life. I think that the United States is starting to wane on its global influence

Basically that ^^^ but im australian.

Everything i see in movies, news etc paints the picture of a country that loves themselves and believes they are the best at everything, which i guess they were after WW2 etc but from what i can see the world economies are or have recovered and things like the EU japan and China seem to be giving america a run for its money.

I remember reading something that if China allowed its currency to have an unfixed exchange rate that it would become the main currency instead of the dollar.

But anyway, what i think is that americans have pride and belief in a country that has slowly eroded its position as top dog.

For being so full of kind and sociable people, not to mention the intellectual elite of the world, ignorance and stupidity permeates much of American society. I can't actively like or respect a nation which allows the hypocrisy and ignorance of the Christian right as much power as it has, and I'm just too sick of it to even care anymore. I'm from Australia. My government sees the United States (I assume that's what you mean when you say 'America' because our opinions of other American nations might differ - and Canadians hate being called 'Americans' under the same banner as the U.S.) as valuable allies and the army to assist our defence force (we essentially have no army).

Me personally, I like people from the U.S. Some are ignorant about international issues but not all. My closest friend from the U.S. didn't believe we had Christmas in Summer - I can't hate her for that, I hate the education system over there.

I watched a U.S. sitcom that had a clever joke about Australian women in it (a clever joke in a sitcom should be an oxymoron). We have a good sense of humour about ourselves, so keep 'em coming. Had it been a county Australia doesn't like (like England), I probably would've taken it personally.

You really don't have a strong military, but I think everybody is afraid of your legions of death beasts you have.

I try to stay up to date on international affairs, but with so much crap going on it can get tricky. I realize I've never actually been south of the Equator so I can't really say too much about the Southern Cross, or having some New Year's Day be about the middle of Summer.

I don't really have much to say about sitcoms, but it's good to know that you have a sense of humor about yourself and your country(it can get hard at times here).

I'm from England and well some Americans can be very full of themselves from past experience just because there american.
But they do make a lot of my favorite video games and movies, so gotta give them some credit for that.

Well, I know not all Americans are complete and utter douche bags. So overall opinion is there alright however they can be abit full of themselves at time.

A Story to prove my point we once had about 7 Americans (and 2 at the bar not with the group) when the large group started a fight on 2 Rugby players (after a full day of them drinking, chanting "AMERICA!" and other Americana chants and other toolary((a word, honest))) watching the game on TV after they started chanting "THIS GAME IS FOR FAGS", only to (after I had to call the sodding police)then get destroyed buy half of our local rugby team who were in the beer garden.

The 2 Americans at the bar, who had been face palming all day leaned over to me and said "If anyone asks.. We're Canadian"

the Netherlands (west europe) in my view America seems to be run on Chrstian morals&standards you and seems to be inhabited by people who cant make up their mind (we want change! no we dont want to enforce a life ensurance law! thats to much!), protects everything including hate speeches (Neo Nazis,WBC,KKK, the Black Panthers etc.) but not video games. And also wants to bully the world (Vietnam the middle east etc.) but I would still like to move to the USA because you still enforce the law (unlike the dutch pussification of the justice system)

Those guys are pretty much idiots; Rugby can be so much more brutal than American football. I'm not going to defend them; They were stupid, and deserved what they got.

I like the American people - most of them have a can-do attitude which is refreshing to see, even if its Sarah Palin's and she's doing it wrong - but I think your country is effed up. You have the most expensive healthcare system in the world which means the average individual lives in fear of getting sick in case they can't afford the treatment. I mean - just - what? Yeah, so in the UK we pay slightly higher taxes, but that means if I get hit by a bus tomorrow all of my treatment is free (including the goddamn ambulance ride!) and any prescribed medicine I have to take from thereon out costs a flat rate of £7.20. I have a friend in the US who has to pay $200 a month just for her anti-depressants, and if she can't afford it then she'll go without. It's weird how you live in a shitty system like that, yet are completely resistant to changing it - whenever there's a feature about it on the news the attitude seems to be (forgive me if its not your personal attitude) OMG WE'RE NOT PAYING FOR SOMEONE ELSE'S HEALTHCARE I MEAN LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR AND GOD BLESS AMERICA BUT MY MONEY IS MIEN!!1111 Yet you're perfectly happy to keep funding a pointless war and defend your rights to own a gun until you're blue in the face.

I'm not trying to be offensive, I just find it...weird. Really, really weird. I don't even want to visit America, I'd rather stick with a country that wouldn't then shaft me if I got sick. Someone from the Netherlands chimes in. For those in the US(and outside) don't know, you will also hear it called Holland(I don't know why, don't ask me).

We are a country that says it wants to be run on Christian morals & standards, but doesn't actually want to. Or political system is infected with favoritism to a degree which needs to be purged, so that we can clear out laws that favor individual political parties, and not the people. Our heath insurance policies are complete rubbish and need to go away, sooner rather than later. The people in charge(read old people) are afraid of the new, despite rebelling with what their parents though was terrifying(Rock & Roll), and won't bother to listen to those of us who bother to pay attention to them. Our hate speech is a group of loud mouthed idiots saying things that most people don't agree with. I know what caused Vietnam(which is all political, a fear of Communism in general, without understanding, knowing, or even asking which individual branch of Communism it was).

Iraq was caused by some very weird ideas that way too many people bought into, and with all the misinformation that was leaked, I'm not going to lie, I was too. I'm sorry for that.

The US legal system is very weird, in that enforcement is very selective. If it's something dangerous and you get caught, you're probably going to spend some time locked away(except for a DUI, which has some insanely low sentences to try to curb the penalties). If it's something easy to convict for, with a low chance of danger, enforcement is very high(possession of Marijuana is a good example). If it's too much work for the potential reward(minor theft), then generally there isn't going to be enforcement of the laws, unless you get lucky. Just a heads up with that one.

I am British. Here America is viewed something along these lines: Insular, with very little interest in or knowledge of anything outside it's borders. Over indulgent, over-weight and over polluting with cars several times larger than they need to be. The general view is that they are the school bully of the global community.

On the other hand, Jack Daniels, Inception, Avatar, Star Wars, Valve and many other things I like have come from there so it can't be all bad.

I wish it was just that simple. My dad can't join his State's high risk pool costing 800USD/month for coverage because he qualifies for another policy, through my mom's employer, even though it's 1300USD/month. That's just for emergencies. Once you get into actual plans should some non-emergency arise, then it gets more expensive.

UK: Friendly (most of them at-least) people, have a number of problems with healthcare, gun control, poverty etc... but as countries go America is still one of the best out there, though I personally prefer Europe.
