Glad he doesn't recognize reality.

We already had Tabulas Rasa try and fail to deliver. It had a great niche and I believe unique ideas. It's just the fact that WoW came first, people will go back to it, then leave it to be. Sucks, but most MMOs really aren't very differential when compared to WoW. Not even the Sci Fi ones.

And Duke Nukem Forever was gonna compete against God. Saying it when you can't prove otherwise is retarded. It would probably have gotten 1 million players the first 3 months and then die, like every other MMO that claimed the same thing.

Just me, or did anyone else notice the spell bar having "Chain Lightning"?

Good thing someone had reason to put this thing out (more specific, Dusty Monk) before the shit would burn and harass my nose.

Alright, i'll be honest:

I'm a big Halo fanboy, but i know bullshit when i hear it, and i'm pretty doubtful THIS would have been a WoW killer.
Agreed. Just no.

"Corporal, I need you to head out into that hostile alien wilderness and gather me twelve papayas."
"...um, Sarge? How exactly does this help us in our war against an unstoppable hyperreligious alien army bent on our extinction?"
"I'm hungry, son! Now get movin'!"

I may have lost my psychic beanie at the laundromat, but I don't need it to know that this idea would have crashed and burned like the Hindenburg. The only way it would have "killed World of Warcraft" would have been to cause laughter-induced anuerysms in every last Blizzard employee.

I can see it now.
A dozen Master Chief's running around with giant swords, swinging them at random creatures.
One of them leveling up, using gained skill point to learn Magic Missile.
Yeah-no. Halo is a horrible choice for an MMO, it just doesn't work gameplay-wise.

Part of me would have been curious to see this get made, just to see if there is an option to play as the Covenant.
However, that's just the excited fanboy in me talking, the mature fan in me however is not a real big fan of MMORPGS and honestly I think that Halo is best when it's an FPS. I may be wrong, after all even though it didn't work consistantly Halo Wars was still a valiant effort to RTS the franchise... just didn't ultimatley completely come together.
Sorry, rambling a bit here....

Point is, I think Halo and Warcraft are two very different things and honestly I doubt this would have worked, even though as I am quick to remind people, the Halo universe certainly has the depth needed to make an MMORPG.

While Yes people play Halo for the online, I don't think the intelligent PC gamers would have liked it... you know, because it's console frat boys who mainly play Halo online (Bewilderingly).
*ahem*

Obnoxious frat boys are not limited to consoles, I've met plenty of unpleasant little (*censored*)'s on PC servers as well. They swear, scream and insult people just as gratuitously as even the most loud Xbox Live player. Believe me, playing a PC does not remove the feeling of competative gameplay coppled with being anonymous. Playing online, or indeed any form of online interaction causes this kind of behavior. It is neither limited to a game nor a preferred game machine.

I apologise if I seemed a little course then, it's just it really bothers me when I hear people badmouth Halo's community or Xbox live in general then praise the PC community which in all honesty has the same problem.
To be fair, that may not have been your intention so I must add that I have no problem with you playing PC or disliking Halo.
That said, I agree with the gyst of what you said, i.e that the MMORPG crowd and the FPS crowd don't interact much as they want different things from a game and as such the MMORPG community would be uninterested in a spin off of an FPS game and the majority of FPS players would in turn decide not to bother with the MMO Halo and stick with the FPS.

As such, it would kind of be a business failure, so I see your point.

Well I have yet to encounter such annoying benders on Modern Warfare 2 PC compared to Xbox or PS3, or even on Left 4 Dead, but you have reminded me of the idiots of counter-strike.

Calumon: Sorry, Jack had a silly moment! ^^

"It'll absolutely compete with WoW"

Yeah. Just like every other MMO released in the last 7 years.

I love Halo

but this...no no no thank goodness it's a no
This is exactly the problem. Halo is huge, nobody can disagree with that whether they actually like the game or not. The problem with making a Halo MMO however is that the people that enjoy Halo and fast paced FPS-games don't really like or have the patience for MMORPGs.

Atleast that's what I think, out of curiosity though I really would have liked to see how a Halo MMO would turn out. My guess is that it would have been something like Tabula Rasa... and that one wasn't all that great to be honest :/

EDIT:
This have prolly been said a million times before in this thread but w/e... I'll post it anyway D:
yeah I don't want to fall into a stereotype, and while I do enjoy all kinds of games, currently where I am in life I just don't have a lot of time to invest in RPGs even if I do want to (I started with some RTS games, and most recently ironically I got Halo Wars just to have something new)
MMORPGs...I've found myself grinding and it grew old fast (Borderlands...and even Saints Row 2 hahaha. must...jack...more...sports cars)

haha but still I can't say I didn't have some curiosity in seeing what a Halo MMO woulda been like xD

Halo's not the sort of thing you can make an MMO from...the universe doesn't have nearly enough variety. I mean, you can include some new aliens, I guess, but if you go too far and start making up monsters and things, it's just going to be a science-fantasy MMO with 'Halo' on the front cover.
This here, and White Glint for the win!

That game was so fun, but so short.

If ES couldn't get a Halo RTS right, and RTS is there main development; there was no way in HELL they would even come close to making good Halo MMO, let alone a "WoW Killer"

But right now, fuck Bioware. Ya, you all heard me!

They needed to do an ME MMO instead...
