Of course it didn't start in 1941. We couldn't RESCUE the UK if it wasn't first in danger....>.>

I hope they transform Chris Evans into Cap in the first five minutes of the film, because the CGI-weakling Steve Rogers is incredibly visually off-putting. I was sick of it in that trailer alone.
I was kinda hoping they Beowulf'd his head onto a smaller man's body for those scenes. But now that you mention it, I wouldn't really put that past the effects guys. The big Evans head is off-putting either way. Hopefully he at least keeps his clothes on most of the time.

Yep... Sieg Heil America and kill everybody else.

Replace all references to USA with Nazi Germany, you'll see this whole film's true colour.

Super soldier = ubermensch. Greatest army in history = 1000 year reich (or 10 New American Centuries).

American utra-nationalist drivel, star-spangled version of a Soviet propaganda film.

This being said... I'll go and watch it.
Blah blah Captain America fights for the people not the flag blah blah Europeans on autopilot in America-hating blah blah troll blah blah so f'ing reported, you clumsy amateur.

Union Jack and Dum Dum Dugan appear in this movie.
So Union Jack is confirmed? Awesome. Although, if he's in the trailer it appears he didn't bring his costume :(

Oh, and I was always under the impression that Dum Dum was American, never read Howling Commandos so I don't know much about his backstory pre-SHIELD D:

Wow, this looks sooo bad. The art direction's completely fucked, and it is either taking itself way too seriously or not nearly seriously enough. :( What's worse, you can't even tell which!

My one minor complaint: That we have to wait until AFTER the 4th of July to see it. It can't just be me that thinks that this could have been the perfect 4th of July Weekend movie.
Transformers 3 took the 4th of July slot.
It's Captain America! They should get the 4th of July spot by default!

Don't really know anything about Captain America. Gotta be honest though, I can't imagine this film is going to do too well outside of America.

"Send Hitler to hell". Weren't the Soviets that actually got to Hitler's bunker?

Pah, can't have factual history get in the way of Ole Cap now can we?
Because the characters in the movie already know how the war ends, right?

I'm not sure if you noticed the America part in the title. Probably a good guess that it'll be from an American point of view.

The audience certainly does know how WW2 turned out. See, if there was a real danger that the bad guys might win, or good guys might die, one could actually get invested in this adventure and care about the characters.

America wins, Germany loses, Captain lives, Red Skull dies. There,I've spoiled the movie for you.

At least the Iron Man movies were more subtle and classy. And genuinely funny.

"Captain America : The First Avenger" will likely bash its audience senseless with its "Amerkia Uber Alles" message.

Chris Evans' head CGed onto some skinny guy for a chunk of the movie is going to be wierd, but hopefully it isn't too distracting.

I was kind of like "Okay, this is decent looking" and then he threw the shield and I was like "damn.. when's this coming out again?!?"

After leaving them to stand alone against the might of the Nazi Reich for the first half of the war and still hold the line.

Captain America is looking to be a good fun film.
At this point it seems a tad silly to be upset about a superhero who's entire premise was to beat up the Natzi's and protect the world.

You mean the Captain America film is about.. "gasp" Captain America and his origin?! HOW OUTRAGEOUS! Seriously, what where you expecting?

Hating on Captain America is silly. Don't hate on a character because of current or near current issues you may have with the nation of origin.

I swear sometimes I feel Captain America would of been forced to be renamed Captain Freedom or something silly if it was done today.

Actually, I'd be suprised if they killed Red Skull in the first movie, considering how HYDRA will most likely play a part in The Avengers.

And, might I ask, what's your problem with showing a fictional retelling of the war, with added super heroes, from a (mostly) American point of view? What's fundamentally wrong with Captain America focusing primarily on American characters?

Looks like it could be a fun movie. I get a Thor, Captain America, and Green Lantern movie this summer. How awesome is that?

Words of wisdom : Those who live in glass houses of probation shouldn't throw reporting rocks.

And just what is this movie beside unabashed chest-beating?

"Send Hitler to hell". Weren't the Soviets that actually got to Hitler's bunker?

HAHAHAHAHHA, what?

I guess they had goddamn Deloreans in 1941 but they decided to skip over that for plot convenience, silly ass writers.

I see Richard Armitage playing a villain. I'd think he were typecast if he weren't also playing Thorin Oakenshield in the Hobbit

Hang on, Captain America and the Hobbit? Looks like he's a secret nerd. One more for our side!

It's a shame this thread has caused nothing but animosity between all our nationalistic readers. We all know World War 2 was fought by everyone, hence the name! (Well, except for Switzerland, Sweden, and apparently all other nations beginning with the letter 'S'). What on earth are we fighting about?

Film looks alright, better that it's an emphsis on characters rather than action, just hope the characters are enough to carry it through! I'm thinking that comment on how only the weak appreciate the gravitas of strength might strike a chord with all the nerds (myself included).

Nice. Looking forward to see this one. I made a bet with a few friends that Evans would nail the role and i guess i was right. Nice Howard Stark reference.

Could honestly give a crap on how well this movie does outside America, getting really tired of seeing morons jump at this as a reason to belittle USA because they have nothing else to do. To hell with everyone else, come July, Captain America will have theatres jam packed!
