No mention of the Nostalgia Critic review of the 1990 [http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/thatguywiththeglasses/nostalgia-critic/10915-captaina/] movie then? Or Spoony's review of both the earllier Cap film [http://spoonyexperiment.com/2010/02/08/captain-america-review/] and it's sequel [http://spoonyexperiment.com/2010/02/09/captain-america-2-death-too-soon-review/]?

You disappoint me. I guess I must congratulate you in the appropriate fashion. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=773PEtn66Vg&feature=related]

Fans can breathe easy, because the costume looks like it will work well in the film and won't look cheesy or impractical.
Let's be honest here, what superhero's costume wouldn't look cheesy in real life? I mean they wear brightly coloured fancy dress costumes and perform superhuman feats for heavens sake!

Considering comic book superheros are generally colourful, larger than life characters (for the most part) I guess it must be quite a task creating a movie which depicts them in a realistic and believable manner as well as remaining faithful to the original design, all while keeping the rabid fans happy too, of course. :p

Captain America is one of the most iconic characters in Marvel's catalog. He's almost as old as Superman and embodies the same sort of ideals (truth, justice, and the American Way). But, yes, his appeal is mainly here in the States because, you know, he's Captain *America*. The character's had some pretty cool story arcs over the years, and I always appreciated the fact that he was just a guy who didn't rely on too many gadgets and had no real super powers (other than peak physical condition).

lol, I suppose the costume looks representable, though frankly I never really got around the bit that America creates a super-soldier and then sends him out to fight an army with boots and a shield.

I don't know if this will be a good movie, but I'm betting it will be a fun movie. Good choice on the design aesthetic for the costume IMO, similar to the choice to make the X-Men costumes all leather in those movies. Although yellow spandex for Hugh Jackman would have been friggen hilarious.

It doesn't look like the shit-tastic costume worn in the 1990 Captain America movie, which automatically makes it good. This one defenitely looks like it was designed to be worn on the battlefield. Camouflauge still looks like it will be an issue, but he's a super soldier, so it should all balance out.

Because he's Captain America a living symbol of what it stands for. I do understand your concern about better super heores, but how much more awesome can a guy be when, on the cover of his very first issue, he flies into a room full of Nazis and punches Hitler right in the face?

I read that explanation from the production team about why he was in the USO show months ago. As far as I knew, they announced the what and the why at the same time.

I only remember reading about the stage dance bit. Perhaps the source I got the info from didn't post the reasoning behind it...

Don't hate me for this, but I've always found and still find Captain America's outfit too goofy for my tastes...

It's hard for me to take this guy seriously with a giant red-white-and-blue shield. Plus, Thor (another movie that Marvel will be making) has freakin WINGS on his hat. WINGS. I've never really been a comic book guy, and the only person whose costume I've gotten used to is Batman's.
Why?
Because it's all black.
Doing dark and gritty is easy when your costume is... Well... All black.
This is also why Robin never worked (for my tastes) in the 'dark and gritty' Batman series because his costume (like Captain America and Thor) looks too flamboyant, and I can't take it seriously.

I may be wrong about this, and I'll try and keep an open mind, but I'm still rather skeptical.

Wait... Where are the wings on his helmet? It's a small detail I know, but it's like Wolverine not having the freaky hair, Magneto or Dr. Doom not having a cape, or Stephen Spielberg not crapping all over his greatest hits.
This is based off the Cap's WWII costume [http://img348.imageshack.us/img348/4929/074kr.jpg], when this movie takes place. The modern one has the wings, so if there is an Avengers movie, you'll get a chance to see it.

Glad they decided againts the oringal costume, the concept looks nice but it could use a few tweaks here and there.

Well Thor's costume might make a little more sense when you think about the fact that he is technically a Norse god (or at least very close, I'm not that familiar with his story). So the wings on his helmet might be a tribute to Norse mythology. And yeah, Robin does look goofy, but he was raised in a circus! He doesn't know any better! Though I can't really say I care about Robin all that much, I'm just being argumentative I guess. Almost every superhero's outfit is flashy and colorful, there's really no way to get around that. Especially when most of them were created a long time ago and flashy and flamboyant was the cool thing to do. Look at the Flash, most of the X-Men (in the comics) Aqua Man (who is just ridiculous anyway) and others. That's just the way it is. People will try their best to translate it realistically without pissing off the fans, like someone else mentioned and whom I am too lazy to quote.

As its only credit, I submit that the original Captain America movie was filmed in Portland, Oregon, which is where Earnest Cavalli and I hang our individual hats.

I watched this when it was broadcast (I don't think it was released in theaters, I don't ant to go to IMDB atm sry), and it seemed to be a pilot for a longer series. Even though the Spider-Man TV show of the time was semi-decent, even at 10-11, I breathed a sigh of relief this vision of Cap didn't go any further.

I'm not the comic-type but I do know of comic book heroes because of my dad. I think this costume looks really good. Very military with enough color to give it that "superhero" feel. Loving the boots the most, but I am a sucker for an awesome pair of boots. :)

I agree, who Captain America...

Oh well. At least I don't HAVE to concern myself with it.
