Well, Thor is an actual Norse, as in viking, God of Thunder. And earlier the Germanic Pagan god. The winged helmet comes from ancient deceptions of the Roman God, Mercury. Later this style of helmet was used in the art of many other gods, just like the horned helmet of the viking - they were never really used. So I guess he doesn't really need it, but it looks cool in my opinion, and the helmet along with his hammer Mjolnir really define the character.tehweave said:Don't hate me for this, but I've always found and still find Captain America's outfit too goofy for my tastes...
It's hard for me to take this guy seriously with a giant red-white-and-blue shield. Plus, Thor (another movie that Marvel will be making) has freakin WINGS on his hat. WINGS. I've never really been a comic book guy, and the only person whose costume I've gotten used to is Batman's.
I don't have anything against the costumes, I was just nitpicking and poking fun of it. It does, however, worry me that they are going to the gritty reboot. Yes, Dark Knight and Watchmen are not that similar, but it does have the whole "realistic" (as much as giant naked blue man can be realistic) that the audience relates to. When I referenced the Tim Burton movies, I was referencing how in those Batman's, the darkness of Gotham was used in a neon-punk-fun kind of way. In the Dark Knight it's used in the criminals-everywhere-scary-emo kind of dark.derelix said:the tim burton movies still exist, nothing wrong with trying something new.Slick Samurai said:*cracks knuckles* Nitpicking Time!
First of all, jeans? The prototype super soldier is gonna be sporting Levies? Seems a little off, but whatever.
What really bothers me is that it seems to be going to the "gritty" reboot that everyone has been desperately trying since Watchmen and Dark Knight. Hope the opening scene isn't him charging up the dark shores of Normandy, lamenting on the horrors of war, in his jeans.
Kinda makes me miss the Tim Burton Batman movies.
Did you actually watch The dark knight and watchmen, the movies were not similar at all. Watchmen had all the flamboyant costumes of the original and a dark tone for most of the movie but not "gritty"
The dark knight...well i loved it but after watching watchmen, it looks like a kids movie by comparison.
I'm inclined to agree with Captain America not being an interesting character, and I'm a massive Marvel geek. That being said, you really can't do an avengers film without him.chozo_hybrid said:Do you know anything about the character? You also can't have an Avengers film without him, as he's the figurehead/leader.oranger said:But...why -captain america-? he looks so stupid, and there's many other, more interesting characters to make movies of...is it just a cultural thing, is that why I don't get it?
As a fan, I love that costume!
Fair enough, being from another country, I find him interesting.Blueruler182 said:I'm inclined to agree with Captain America not being an interesting character, and I'm a massive Marvel geek. And the costume looks fantastic. I saw some art on Deviantart that I thought would look better, but this still looks fantastic.
Meh, I'm from Canada, and I'm one of the few people who don't hate the states (I hate Canadian and American people alike). It's just the fact that he's an icon-hero. Do what's right, because it's right, for no other reason than it's right. Show no flaws, be the best. I don't like characters people are supposed to live up to simply because they're unbelievable. That's why I don't read DC, the universe is damn near full of them. Not that those aren't good principles, but I don't want to read about them on a regular basis unless he's on a team with people who contradict that (Iron Man) on a regular basis.chozo_hybrid said:Fair enough, being from another country, I find him interesting.Blueruler182 said:I'm inclined to agree with Captain America not being an interesting character, and I'm a massive Marvel geek. I take it the Reb Brown version is truly unmentionable?vansau said:Of course, this isn't the first time that Cap has appeared in a movie. Back in 1990, a truly terrible film was released starring Matt Salinger (son of acclaimed author J.D. I don't know what's with the commenters that think he's wearing jeans. "Huh, blue pants, they must be jeans". I know it's a low-quality pic, but I'm pretty sure they're just blue.Slick Samurai said:First of all, jeans? The prototype super soldier is gonna be sporting Levies? Seems a little off, but whatever.
Batman wears grey spandex, a blue speedo, and hooker boots. Just wanted to point that out. Here's what's rumoured to be Thor's costume. Notice, no wings. http://blog.newsarama.com/2010/06/03/is-this-a-first-look-at-thors-concept-costume/tehweave said:It's hard for me to take this guy seriously with a giant red-white-and-blue shield.
