Good job for Marvel, breaking out of the old routine.

BTW, did anyone notice in Iron Man 2 that Tony Stark used the Captain America shield to make his laser machine?

Why would the original suit be cheesy? That's saying the whole character in general is, so making a movie about a cheesy super hero is pointless.

I don't like the suit that they've drawn up. It looks like he's wearing a bike helmet...and where are the wings? Too cheesy?

Don't hate me for this, but I've always found and still find Captain America's outfit too goofy for my tastes...

It's hard for me to take this guy seriously with a giant red-white-and-blue shield. Plus, Thor (another movie that Marvel will be making) has freakin WINGS on his hat. WINGS. I've never really been a comic book guy, and the only person whose costume I've gotten used to is Batman's.
Well, Thor is an actual Norse, as in viking, God of Thunder. And earlier the Germanic Pagan god. The winged helmet comes from ancient deceptions of the Roman God, Mercury. Later this style of helmet was used in the art of many other gods, just like the horned helmet of the viking - they were never really used. So I guess he doesn't really need it, but it looks cool in my opinion, and the helmet along with his hammer Mjolnir really define the character.

And as for your batman point...

And more recently, Exhibit C:

And I didn't even go over Bat-Nipples...

The costume looks awesome! Captain Jingoism is gonna look awesome.

When is the Photon movie coming out? Can't have an Avengers movie without Photon... Also, if they don't have Photon in the Avengers, then she can't split off to lead the team in a movie of Nextwave : Agents of H.A.T.E, and that would be a travesty. (Oh I'd kill for a Nextwave movie...)

I know the world's gonna be a lot more iffy with the whole CAPTAIN AMERICA thing in the modern day...
so maybe they should use this as the theme song to help ease people in :p

I just don't like the fact that they have the Flamer Torch playing as Cap America. They should have gotten an actor who isn't already a Marvel hero, even if the movies are as dead as the proverbial doornail.

As for the suit, that's not bad, but my personal favorite is this one:

Uh oh! Look at all those pouches! Is there a little bit of Rob Liefeld there? ;)

I kid! I kid!

There isn't enough pouches there that if I took a shot of alcohol for every pouch I'd die from alcohol poisoning.

*cracks knuckles* Nitpicking Time!

First of all, jeans? The prototype super soldier is gonna be sporting Levies? Seems a little off, but whatever.

What really bothers me is that it seems to be going to the "gritty" reboot that everyone has been desperately trying since Watchmen and Dark Knight. Hope the opening scene isn't him charging up the dark shores of Normandy, lamenting on the horrors of war, in his jeans.

Kinda makes me miss the Tim Burton Batman movies.
the tim burton movies still exist, nothing wrong with trying something new.
Did you actually watch The dark knight and watchmen, the movies were not similar at all. Watchmen had all the flamboyant costumes of the original and a dark tone for most of the movie but not "gritty"
The dark knight...well i loved it but after watching watchmen, it looks like a kids movie by comparison.
I don't have anything against the costumes, I was just nitpicking and poking fun of it. It does, however, worry me that they are going to the gritty reboot. Yes, Dark Knight and Watchmen are not that similar, but it does have the whole "realistic" (as much as giant naked blue man can be realistic) that the audience relates to. When I referenced the Tim Burton movies, I was referencing how in those Batman's, the darkness of Gotham was used in a neon-punk-fun kind of way. In the Dark Knight it's used in the criminals-everywhere-scary-emo kind of dark.

But...why -captain america-? he looks so stupid, and there's many other, more interesting characters to make movies of...is it just a cultural thing, is that why I don't get it?
Do you know anything about the character? You also can't have an Avengers film without him, as he's the figurehead/leader.

As a fan, I love that costume!
I'm inclined to agree with Captain America not being an interesting character, and I'm a massive Marvel geek. That being said, you really can't do an avengers film without him.

And the costume looks fantastic. I saw some art on Deviantart that I thought would look better, but this still looks fantastic.

Fair enough, being from another country, I find him interesting.

Meh, I'm from Canada, and I'm one of the few people who don't hate the states (I hate Canadian and American people alike). It's just the fact that he's an icon-hero. Do what's right, because it's right, for no other reason than it's right. Show no flaws, be the best. I don't like characters people are supposed to live up to simply because they're unbelievable. That's why I don't read DC, the universe is damn near full of them. Not that those aren't good principles, but I don't want to read about them on a regular basis unless he's on a team with people who contradict that (Iron Man) on a regular basis.

Hugo Weaving? Oh, hells yes.

And yeah, that costume does look pretty cool. I think I'll actually look forward to this.

Of course, this isn't the first time that Cap has appeared in a movie. Back in 1990, a truly terrible film was released starring Matt Salinger (son of acclaimed author J.D. Salinger) as the titular hero going up against an Italian fascist version of the Skull; <a href=http://www.hulu.com/watch/116031/captain-america>the movie has since been released on Hulu, though we don't really recommend you watch it.
I take it the Reb Brown version is truly unmentionable?

I don't know what's with the commenters that think he's wearing jeans. "Huh, blue pants, they must be jeans". I know it's a low-quality pic, but I'm pretty sure they're just blue.

Batman wears grey spandex, a blue speedo, and hooker boots. Just wanted to point that out. Here's what's rumoured to be Thor's costume. Notice, no wings. http://blog.newsarama.com/2010/06/03/is-this-a-first-look-at-thors-concept-costume/

But yeah, Comic Cap has pirate books, scales, and figgin' wings on his ears. Not hard to imagine non-comic fans giggling a bit.

But this costume is great, I think. Works well with the Iron Man and Thor costumes. Probably not the final version, though.

Not bad. I'm sure it's going to change a bit more before filming starts. Stay positive.

What I'm really worried about is if they can capture the fish out of water issue of Steve being a wholesome 1940's kid, plunged into our current society. "They" being the writers, director and Chris Evans.

Heh, a few years back I was tinkering with the idea of faking a Thor movie poster as an April fools prank.
