Looks good to me! The only part I don't like is the belt. Sure it looks cool, but what does he need to carry in there?
Power bars, flashlight, leatherman, grappling hook, copy of the Constitution, iPod, celphone with an automatic dialer to Tony Stark's phone sending a text telling Tony to 'never mess with the Shield again, bro.' Of course that's what it would have today. Back in WW2? Who knows? He only needed his attitude to smack the Red Skull down then.

No, you don't get it because you've never read Avengers or Ultimates. I'm Brazilian and to me it would be just plain retarded to try an Avengers film without introducing cap before and giving him a good back story.

To those who haven't ever read anything with cap in it and are talking about patriotism:
Captain America isn't just a symbol of the US, he's a symbol of unwavering belief in the good of man, the belief that the weak must be protected from evil by those who can protect them (similar to "With great power comes great responsibility"). He's never doubtful or hesitant (which is why Civil War was such a good concept), and he can always be trusted. That also means he's always incredibly predictable and single-note, though, so it's not easy to make the character interesting.

I actually was talking about this like two hours ago...

It looks fine for a WW2-Era Cap...but when he comes back for the Avengers, I hope it looks more....modernized? I guess you could say...

The Ultimates did a great job of demonstrating this, both as an asset and a weakness. My favorite, though, was how Warren Ellis wrote him and also showed that he wasn't an idiot: during a really nasty fistfight, he had no problem fighting dirty in order to take his opponent out.

Because he's Captain America a living symbol of what it stands for. I do understand your concern about better super heores, but how much more awesome can a guy be when, on the cover of his very first issue, he flies into a room full of Nazis and punches Hitler right in the face?
No offense, but that sounded so terribly geeky and cliche-american-partisan at the same time...

Personally, I'm not convinced this movie can pull it off. Let's face it - the cap is a cultural antiquity and a living contradiction that can only exist in comic book subculture. And even then he's a stretch, as his original concept was that he was a supersoldier made to fight nazis, wearing a bright american flag, the helmet and boots of Hermes, and a Spartan Hoplite's shield. While those sorts of comic heroes were accepted in the past, he's only remained in his place because of symbolic significance as a figurehead american superhero - the concept by modern standards is somewhat ridiculous.

These days, movie audiences are harder to fool, right-wing conservatism is not as publicly acceptable, and it's hard to see the filmmakers explain or portray the character in live action in such a way that would allow the audience to suspend their disbelief appropriately. It's not like Iron Man, whose main realm of sophisticated technology is the zeitgeist of our culture, nor Batman, which focuses on a personal and ideological struggle, while giving sufficient explanation for his not-so-extraordinary powers. Captain America represents mighty righteous america, which is a tougher idea to sell nowadays.

It looks really good. Maybe they could have the wings painted on the helmet as a decal or something. It would be better than actual wings on the helmet and would appease the fans.

Spandex is not necessarily cheesy.

Check out the Black Ranger-
This is your argument for Spandex not being inherently cheesy?

You're going to have to do better than that Machine Gun Kirby (love the avatar btw).

I like the Captain America costume. The wings on the mask were a little silly (sorry, I know the Flash can make the thunderbolts on his mask work, but it's always sort of bothered me on Cap), and I think it's a good blend between the main Marvel universe and the more militaristic-styled Cap of the Marvel Ultimate universe. They better give him a damn good reason to wear the red-white-and-blue like that it's something Steve came up with and that the uniform is fireproof/temperature controlled/bulletproof, though, because admittedly it does look somewhat silly. Also because in the 90's flick they just put him in it at such a pace that even Steve Rogers called them out on it and commented on how silly it looked.

I mean, at least the first of the 70's movies gave him a reason to put him in the costume. True, hackneyed as it was and silly as it looked, at least they did set Reb Brown up to make the costume look the way it did; they played off Steve Roger's established continuity in that he was an artist (or something like that, my knowledge of Cap is slightly limited) and the costume was based off something he drew.

Do you know anything about the character? You also can't have an Avengers film without him, as he's the figurehead/leader.

As a fan, I love that costume!

*cracks knuckles* Nitpicking Time!

First of all, jeans? The prototype super soldier is gonna be sporting Levies? Seems a little off, but whatever.

What really bothers me is that it seems to be going to the "gritty" reboot that everyone has been desperately trying since Watchmen and Dark Knight. Hope the opening scene isn't him charging up the dark shores of Normandy, lamenting on the horrors of war, in his jeans.

Kinda makes me miss the Tim Burton Batman movies.
