The spirit of Liefeld demands more pouches!
Liefeld is not an artist, nor will he ever be one.
Who could ever suspect that mild mannered comic artist Rob Leifeld is actually the superhero Pouch-Man! Born with a crippling inability to correctly grip items, he had a special suit constructed entirely out of pouches to battle his evil nemesis The Deadly Ankle.

As a none comic book reader, I have to say, that looks quite awsome, not sure how it'll go down with the fans, but it looks repectable, realistic, and cool and cool in my opinion.
I'm a huge Cap fan (Which is probably weird since I am not american and all that)
And I must say I love the costume, except I think the red and white stripes are rather weirdly designed

But...why -captain america-? he looks so stupid, and there's many other, more interesting characters to make movies of...is it just a cultural thing, is that why I don't get it?
I suspect it has something to do with the Avengers, not sure though.

Oh, and that costume looks awesome, hope the actual film is just as good.

Fix the helmet part and I'll be fine with it, for extra points get rid of the shoulder armor that looks like hes supposed to be playing a football.

Don't hate me for this, but I've always found and still find Captain America's outfit too goofy for my tastes...

It's hard for me to take this guy seriously with a giant red-white-and-blue shield. Plus, Thor (another movie that Marvel will be making) has freakin WINGS on his hat. WINGS. quote]

The teaser picture didn't show him wearing the helmet.

I think he might wear it once for a special reason and then never again, hopefully anyway.

Because he looks Badass in that picture.

The costume design for the Captain America looks good to me, I've never read any Captain America comics so I can't really comment on how faithful it is. But it does look pretty good in my opinion

I kind of miss the wings on his head, they just seem to add something but apart from that minor detail I like this costume, the USO subplot sounds interesting.

I was never really a big Capt. America fan, I've never read any of his comics or seen any of his TV shows. I always thought he was a bit too camp and over patriotic. But If hugo weaving is in the film, thats a pretty good reason to see it. And I like this whole continuity thing Marvel have got going on now. I'll probably try to see as many marvel movies as I can now.

"At last! We have created a super soldier! No let's never use him." I'd say that's stupid, but we have seen that card played before.

I'm still a bit fuzzy to the logic of the higher-ups spending money to create a super-soldier, only to not actually use him in combat because he might be killed, so instead they put him in the USO. If that were the case, why'd they even bother making him a super-soldier? Bits like that make me a little nervous about how good the movie is going to be.

EDIT: Oh, and the concept art looks decent. Hopefully the actual costume will, too.
If you think he's not going to see combat in the movie....god i hope your post was a joke. Do i really need to explain this too you?
Do you think the people making these movies are a bunch of idiots who have no idea how movies are supposed to be made?
Where in my post did I even imply that I didn't think he was going to see combat? I was pointing out the whole "make a super-soldier, but don't put him into combat" plotline that Joe Johnston and his writers are putting into the script (as per this article and many others) is poorly thought out, and will likely be a waste of screentime when they could, I don't know, just run with the idea that he's the American super-soldier, and that means he gets deployed right away. And with a movie that's not only following Cap's origin story, but is reportedly also going to have the Invaders, Bucky, Howard Stark, Red Skull, the Howling Commandos (if this article is to be believed), and is going to be used to set up The Avengers, it sure sounds like it's going to be overstuffed, and such an obvious filler plot will likely detract from the film's quality. Do I have to explain this to you? Apparently, yes.

As for the second question...well, it is Hollywood, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were.

I would say that given the WWII setting...the pouches and rather odd looking helmet has it's place. Although, with him being a super-soldier I would have to say that trying to infiltrate an enemy base or stay alive on a battlefield would prove quite difficult considering you're freaking bright blue! But I guess that reflects the military's intelligence..."let's create a superhero and then make him wear a target all the time! If he survives it'll be a success!"

@oranger: Concerning the choice of hero...they're going to make an Avengers movie. He's pretty much their leader and it's nice of them to not just throw him into that movie without a chance to make more money.

Also, to everyone: Is it just me or is anyone else pissed off at the choice of actor??!!! I mean come on why is the Human Torch Captain America? (Both Marvel movies...I guess we're going to have to pull another Hulk move here and pretend the Fantastic 4 don't exist)

I think they were trying to make more, but the other tests failed. They don't wanna lose their one success until they figure out what made Rogers different. At least, that's what I figure.

I suppose it's related to how they lost their ability to mass-produce the super-soldiers shortly after Cap was "made". They wanted an army, and doubt the effectiveness of a single soldier.
Fair points, both. Still, I have to point out: 1) the Invaders are going to be in this, so that means there are other super-heroes to back up Cap, thus negating the need to 'protect their asset', and 2) having what is likely to be a significant portion of the plot dealing with the top brass putting a guy they spent however many taxpayer dollars on to kick Nazi ass into the USO for fear that he'll be killed in combat, so that the plot revolves around Cap defying orders and go into combat anyway, strikes me as a waste of time and energy.

EDIT: Oh, and 3) The USO plot gets even more redundant if you consider the fact that the origin story is that Steve Rogers was selected because he wasn't physically fit enough to be a regular soldier. So, what we're going to see is Rogers moping that he won't be able to serve his country, but really wants to, and then do a lot of moping after becoming Captain America for the same exact reason.

It's hard for me to take this guy seriously with a giant red-white-and-blue shield. Plus, Thor (another movie that Marvel will be making) has freakin WINGS on his hat. WINGS. I've never really been a comic book guy, and the only person whose costume I've gotten used to is Batman's.
Well, Thor is an actual Norse, as in viking, God of Thunder. And earlier the Germanic Pagan god. The winged helmet comes from ancient deceptions of the Roman God, Mercury. Later this style of helmet was used in the art of many other gods, just like the horned helmet of the viking - they were never really used. So I guess he doesn't really need it, but it looks cool in my opinion, and the helmet along with his hammer Mjolnir really define the character.

And as for your batman point...

Exhibit A:

Exhibit B:

And more recently, Exhibit C:
]

And I didn't even go over Bat-Nipples...
First of all... Exhibit C... What the heck? It's like... A man in a bat outfit... Not really Batman, more like Bat-Man.

Secondly, I got a bunch of quotes on this so I'll address it, from what I said, yes, batman's costume wasn't all black until the 1989 movie. And yes, Batman and Robin was really hokey. (THE BAT CREDIT CAAAAAAAARD!!!)

As for Thor and Captain America, I'll still see the movies. Xmen and Xmen2 are two of my absolute favorite superhero films and the costumes from the original comics and animated series were pretty goofy looking. (Mystique in the animated series was fully clothed, wheras she was in a boner-inducing paint suit in the movies. You know what I mean.) Like I said, I won't let my prejudices get in the way of these being good movies. They might actually surprise me. Or they might be Spiderman 3, X men 3, or Batman and Robin... You never know.

It reminds me of Halo actually. Cap. America embodied the spirit of the soldiers. If he died, the moral would fall exponentially. They needed to keep him alive, and a legend to the soldiers still fighting.
