CD Projekt: "Let's Treat Gamers as Grown-ups"

Apparently somebody forgot to tell these naive idiots that "Treat others as you want to be treated" only works if EVERYBODY lives by it. As long as there is even one person alive who doesn't, then that saying is false.

Does anyone else feel like they're trying desperately hard to gather a sort of cult fan base. Of course I appreciate their respect for the industry and for gamers, but it's weird seeing a company that can do absolutely nothing wrong.

Like Valve isn't perfect, and Steam has a thin layer of DRM, but CDP RED seem to be entirely benevolent 100% of the time, and it's a little disconcerting.

The most disconcerting of all is that if you own a Steam (or other PC version) of either Witcher 1 or 2, you can enter your serial key on your GOG.com account and they give you a DRM-free version of the game free.

But I do love these people. Their tagline should be: By gamers, for gamers.

As others have said, they themselves admitted it wasn't a great idea and The Witcher 2 is considerably better about the sex. Kind of silly to damn the company based on one thing after admitting it was a mistake. But hey, be angry about it if you want. Doesn't really affect me.

And to anyone saying it's probably just a diabolical plan, well hey we still get the benefits from it. If they do a 180 and become evil, so be it, but we had years of great service until then.

If CD-P starts making more games other than The Witcher, and if GOG.com was offering a UK service too and not just an American one, then I'd be all over this company. They're run by smart people, not money.

You can still use their site, it's just in dollars rather than our own pounds.

Wasn't the Witcher 2 the second most pirated game of the year or something? I seem to remember there being a big fuss raised about just how much that game was illegally downloaded, and how much money they could have made if their customers were decent humanfolk.

But yeah, go ahead and trust the mindless hordes of self-entitled fucknugget gamers who seem to genuinely believe that they 'deserve' games for free for some ill-explained reason. When your next game makes it to that coveted number one spot on the piracy lists I'll just shrug at the inevitability of it.

I'm a woman, I read the books The Witcher games are based on. I LOVED them. It was a deconstruction of a so-called "standard fantasy setting". The games reflected the feel of the books very well, too. Go educate yourselves before you start passing judgements based on one tiny detail in an old game.

It says something about the current state of the industry that "trusting customers" is a novel concept for a studio.

The sad part is it doesn't stop at the gaming industry but also transcends to other industries such as the film industry where rather than asking the audience what they'd like and cooperating with them, there's a firm line constantly in place between the consumer and the creator. It even goes beyond industries to the wonderful world of politics where there seems to be the very common view that the average person is a money-grabbing thief who'd break the law at a moment's notice for any reason.

A little respect from time to time is wonderful, which is why CD Projekt and Valve has a solid positive reputation in gamer circles and EA and Activision would be more inclined to be spat on than praised.
