I'm getting really damned sick of every topic about the Witcher or even CDProjekt being turned into some sexism debate by the same person every time who only repeats the same things they've said before in the last topic about either of the above where they started an unprompted rant on the subject.

As for the actual article I'm happy to read CDProjekt continue to stick with their promises, releasing a steady flow of free content and updates. I know they intend to release an editor for the Witcher 2 as well in the coming months, I can't wait to tinker around with that and see what's possible. Considering how beautiful Witcher 2 was visually it should be interesting to see what players are capable of creating!

If they don't like DRM, why did I have to use that EA DRM thing when I got the witcher 2?
'EA DRM thing'? The what now?

Anyway, while CD Projekt/CDP RED/GoG.com hate DRM other distributors fucking LOVE DRM... and CD Projekt only handled distribution in Poland and digitally via GoG.com
Okay it might not have been EA, but I had to look up some code and put it into a DRM program to play the game.

I have no problem playing games with a male lead (If I did I would miss out on quite a lot) My issue is with the pandering at play in The Witcher. It was just nasty and I'm worried that if they have another male only protagonist it will be the same problem.

I don't have a problem with sex in games but that game treated women like they were achievements to be collected or something and of course they all wanted to sleep with him. It was like some sort of terrible Gary Stu fanfiction.

I have no idea if The Witcher 2 was any better as I haven't played it.
They got rid of all the card stuff after the first game, I think I read in an interview where they said it was immature and stupid and they regretted adding it. I don't really know how sex works in the second game aside from him and Tris going at it a couple times, I'm not sure how the relationship thing works in it, I still haven't gotten to the point where he has really met any other potential women but I do know they have attempted to make it much less weird.

That's a cd key, its standard for any disk based game. Although it might also have been to show you got something early and unlock extras, like I got mine from gamestop and there is a code to unlock some special little thing, plus the disc based version does have drm on it, there is secure rom on the disk to prevent it from being leaked before it was out but after they came out with the huge patch this summer they let you use your cd key to unlock the game on gog.com so you could have a fully drm free game.

It is, but it wasnt added by cdprojekt, it was added by the publisher and cdprojekt patched it out of the game about a week after launch, they were sued by the Europe distributor over it also.

Am I the only one who sees the hypocrisy in a dev who claims to treat gamers "as grown-ups" also has in-game nude pictures of its characters that make me feel like I'm being treated like a horny 12 year old?
Wait, wait what?
Where you're from pictures of nude chicks are for 12 year olds?
What do the grown-ups get then? o_O

Also you do realise that if someone includes pictures of naked characters they're sort of doing exactly that: treating you like a grown-up in the hopes(or expecting) that your reaction to them won't be childish.

So yeah, just you.

Love CD Projekt's attitude on this one.
And I bet the Witcher isn't pirated any more or less because it doesn't have DRM which is something other companies just turn a total blind eye to.

A game will be pirated with or without DRM. End of story.
People may though, choose not to buy your game if it has some bollocksy DRM.

The Witcher universe (medieval fantasy) isn't really my cup of tea unfortunately, but I'm keeping a keen eye on that new project. I love myself some good cyberpunk.

And this is why, people, why I keep this company in my highest regards and bought Witcher 2 Collector's Edition just to support them.

I'm really glad we at least have CDProjekt that we can put our trust(and money) in.

PS: I usually don't buy Collector Editions for single player games, but this was very well deserved.

No but you might be the only one that thinks being presented with extremely tame T&A artwork means you must go and have a wank.

You do realise the CD Projekt RED's publisher is CD Projekt, right?

The DRM was added by CD Projekt because of contractual bullshit with the distributors.

Being presented with porn by a game as if that constitutes a reward is insulting and demeaning, meaning it indicates that the developers thought I was a horny manchild. Which is not treating me as an adult.
Adulthood means being able to respond to mature content maturely. If you see naked women in the Witcher and instantly need to masturbate, its your problem - not the games.

TW2, having not played one, I don't find to be very "IN YOUR FACE YOU MUST WANK TO THIS" in how it presents its stuff. Its there, in the game, and I get to choose how to react to it.

The way to treat you audience as IMmature is to censor out sex scenes and nudity because they're obviously manchildren who will just wank to them. Treating you as an adult is to let you make your own judgement on the scenes, not making the judgement for you.

Especially as the game won't be the one at risk of developing Wanker's Cramp (it's a form of RSI).

Mr./Mrs. author., I will not stand for your commercial for CD Projekt. I will not stand for your 'story' that is essentially saying how good the company is. This is not a news story, this is bullshit and a blight upon the good name of the Escapist. My faith in the Escapist is constantly taxed by dumb and useless stories but this is an outright insult to the idea of journalism!

That said, my opinion of CD Projekt just went from 'pandering company that says what gamers want to hear' to 'self-righteous condescending assholes'. You insult literally every other game company with the implication that you are the only ones who care. You reduce a complex issue of controlling IP and piracy into a strawman argument of who care for customers, thus talking down to gamers. You imply bullshit implications about maturity in your games and in your policies. Moral ambiguity is something that existed in games before current generation gamers were even born and is no way related to maturity, even if your argument over it was in any way valid, and you makes statements about message telling in relation to maturity. This company's PR can go sit and spin! (I have no idea what other departments are like and hopefully they facepalm at some of these implications). I don't care if you're trying to be nice or have good idea or whatever. Think before you speak and present your ideas without, among other things, implying that I'm an idiot.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go do something else before I punch a hole through my monitor.
