I like Hope from Final Fantasy 13 while everyone else I've met seems to want to impale him on a wooden spike, Cannibal Holocaust style.

Navi, from TLoZ;OoT. I have NEVER understood why she's considered annoying. I've always thought she was a faithful companion traveling alongside Link and accompanying him on his epic quest. Not once have I been irritated by her calls of "Hey! Listen!". As "net-trendy" as it may be to hate her for her voice, I never have. Not back when I was 10 first playing it, and not now, over 10 years later.
I also like Navi. She DID get irritating at times but so does everyone. I found I missed her when playing Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess.

Yes, this topic is inspired by Bhaalspawn's topics, so kudos to him for inspiring me. I want to know what characters that a lot of people give a lot of crap are actually liked by you guys, regardless of whether or not you like or hate the work they are from. Also, I'd prefer it if people explain their choices to better facilitate understanding rather than ignorant hatred. Hatred should be earned! I'll start (obviously):

I really like Cloud, from FFVII. It's true, I love FFVII and would easily be described by some as a "fanboy" but putting that aside, I think he gets a lot of hate that he just doesn't deserve. People say he's "too emo," which I find to be flatly untrue. For a character who'd been through what he has, he's pretty upbeat. He's actually kind of a goof: he makes lame jokes, he's uncharismatic, and he's somewhat clumsy. He's the exact opposite of the archetypal leader, but is often overshadowed by his far more zany companions. Really, the only time he ever get's really down in the dumps is 1) when Aeris dies, and 2) when he's tricked into believing his whole life is a total lie and he's not even a real person, AND THOSE ARE PRETTY GOOD REASONS TO BE UPSET. He even gets better by the end of the game, only to be inexplicably super-emofied by that god-awful movie.

I also like Cristian Bale's Batman. I admit, the voice is a bit strange, but it makes sense for him to hide it. He really does make a good Batman though; he plays the playboy aspect of Bruce Wayne very well, and is just as good at playing Batman. Bale is an asshole, no doubt, but he is a good actor and a good Batman.

I'll think of others when I'm not distracted by my roommate and his girlfriend's freakishly loud sex. >_<
I like itachi, yet eveyone critasizes me for this, why? He is a complex character who literally gave his sanity to do what was right, heck, he had to kill his family, Idk, i do'n see why all the hate for him

Master Chief, I found his personality to be above average, especially when comes to FPS protagonists, very few can top him.

Lightning Farron and Sazh of Final Fantasy XIII (Although I liked Fang ever so slightly more than the rest of the cast save Light and Sazh - Snow, Vanille and Hope can all go die in a fire). In all honesty, my most favorite female game character. Also, Master Chief of Halo (reading the books really gives you a slight insight into the character himself, despite his character in the game itself).

As an extension of that, I liked FFXIII.. although Gran Pulse did get very annoying, I'll grant critics that much.

Apparently there are some heartless cretins out there that dislike Moira Brown of Fallout 3 fame. I personally find her ditzy and diabetically cheerful ways to be humorous and endearing, and don't understand how anyone could ever hate her. Sure, she almost gets the Lone Wanderer killed a bunch of times, but being almost killed at every turn is a part of being a protagonist, so I don't see how it would be an issue.

Ashley was really the only character from the Mass Effect series I liked. Everyone else is 1 dimensional. (thats right not even 2 dimensional)

I liked him in the game and the movie. (Yes the movie too! :D)

Raiden : Metal Gear Solid 2
Yes I said 2! :D When your entire life and mission is falling apart no matter the effort you put in, then yes, its ok to be upset. For some reason people always confuse a characters expression of feelings or any kind of frustration as being "whingy". Even if he (or any character) was whingy, whats wrong with that? I don't understand why people are so againest characters acting like actual human beings with feelings.

Tidus : He was alright, I dont get the hate for him either.
This is basically all my opinion too.

These and Nero from DMC4. He cries *once* in the whole game and to be fair, it's for a pretty big reason. (like his entire life has been turned upside down.)
Yet everybody seems to think he's a whingy Emo.

Don't get it.

AH! Yes, I forgot about Nero, thankyou.

I don't know if people are just insecure or something but it really does piss me off. Like when I'm playing a game where the character at one point starts crying or complaining, my friends automatic response is spouting out "pussy" or "emo".

Really? Are you serious?
Funny thing is, this is the same friend who cried and whinged when a "one week" girlfriend dumped him, when I beat him at monopoly, and when he lost his favourite T-shirt. Yet a character that loses a loved one, is reliving traumatic experiences, is bottled up with depression, is automatically a complete pussy who should man up. -_-

Cream the Rabbit. I don't really care about her voice, it changes in every game, plus it just...fits. Sheesh, that rabbit was my main in Sonic Advance 2 & 3.

And also Megaman X. I probably hung out in the wrong groups, but a lot of people seem to hate him and I don't know why. To me he's just has that 'sweetheart' charm about him like he actually cares, and not that (I call it 'Cloud Syndrome') ruthless brood Zero has, or Axl's sassbasketry.

Well, apparently, from what I've read here, everyone hates Desmond from Assassin's Creed, which kind of perplexes me, since I've never seen that dislike anywhere else.
I like him, and I think his story is one of the main reasons why I continue buying the games. (Apart from the fun gameplay, of course.)
They hate Desmond? Seriously? He's my favorite character from the AC series, even if you almost never get to play as him.
As for another character I like that most people don't, Alex Mercer from Prototype. People keep saying that he has no personality, but in reality, being a merciless mass-murderer is actually a personality, albeit a flawed one. Still, he seems to be perfect for his role in the game, being a narcissistic sociopath with no memories fits all that killing.
Yeah, gotta go with Desmond. I've seen loads of hate for him but I can't see why. People say he's bland but I disagree. Maybe it's because he's voiced by Nolan North. He was a bit boring in Assassin's Creed 1 but it wasn't really about him. His story became a lot more interesting in Assassins Creed 2 and Brotherhood.

Also;

People seem to prefer Frank West for some reason. Frank came across as annoying to me and all he cared about was his "scoop". Anyway, I PREFER CHUCK DAMMIT!
You're not alone, I think Chuck Greene is way cooler. And I also think they should put him in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 instead of Frank West!

Lightning and Hope- I feel like a lot of people hated them (along with everyone else in Final Fantasy XIII), but I didn't think they were that bad.

I have a bit of a crush on Bellatrix Lestrange. The character- not the actress from the movies.

Oh! I also really like the Legion(Caesar and Vulpes especially) from New Vegas. They had me as soon as I heard their proper Latin pronunciation. <3

Try as I might, I just can't seem to think of a character I've ever outright hated. I like a ton of characters that people seem to hate. A particular favorite is Silver the Hedgehog. I hear people say he looks like a fan-character or whatever, but I really liked him in Sonic '06 (ignoring all the faults that game had). He had good motivation, but was conflicted in the pursuit of his goals. I also like how he's set apart from other hedgehogs, who are all speed type characters, while he would probably be a power type. I will admit, I prefer his "Venice" preproduction look, but what can you do?

Oh my God, I forgot to mention him too. Right here bro, right here. *brofist*

He was actually, like Shadow, one of those well-thought out characters I actually liked SEGA for coming up with. His design was cool, he actually had a purpose for his actions, a semi-good backstory, and a pretty good voice actor IMO. His only downfall was that every time I look at him, I see a pot leaf XD

For some reason, nobody else on the entire Internet actually likes Reimu Hakurei. Can't think why, although I think it might be because she's a beginner character, hence: "soooo weak and slow." (I was actually told that on this very website.) As for complaints that she has no personality, well...who, in the entire series, has a personality that wasn't established by the fans?

And let's face it, she's about the only Touhoe I know of who wouldn't kill me on sight. Except maybe Alice, and I just don't go for blondes.
