I like Hope from Final Fantasy 13 while everyone else I've met seems to want to impale him on a wooden spike, Cannibal Holocaust style.
I also like Navi. She DID get irritating at times but so does everyone. I found I missed her when playing Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess.SvenBTB said:Navi, from TLoZ;OoT. I have NEVER understood why she's considered annoying. I've always thought she was a faithful companion traveling alongside Link and accompanying him on his epic quest. Not once have I been irritated by her calls of "Hey! Listen!". As "net-trendy" as it may be to hate her for her voice, I never have. Not back when I was 10 first playing it, and not now, over 10 years later.
I like itachi, yet eveyone critasizes me for this, why? He is a complex character who literally gave his sanity to do what was right, heck, he had to kill his family, Idk, i do'n see why all the hate for himJack the Potato said:Yes, this topic is inspired by Bhaalspawn's topics, so kudos to him for inspiring me. I want to know what characters that a lot of people give a lot of crap are actually liked by you guys, regardless of whether or not you like or hate the work they are from. Also, I'd prefer it if people explain their choices to better facilitate understanding rather than ignorant hatred. Hatred should be earned! I'll start (obviously):
I really like Cloud, from FFVII. It's true, I love FFVII and would easily be described by some as a "fanboy" but putting that aside, I think he gets a lot of hate that he just doesn't deserve. People say he's "too emo," which I find to be flatly untrue. For a character who'd been through what he has, he's pretty upbeat. He's actually kind of a goof: he makes lame jokes, he's uncharismatic, and he's somewhat clumsy. He's the exact opposite of the archetypal leader, but is often overshadowed by his far more zany companions. Really, the only time he ever get's really down in the dumps is 1) when Aeris dies, and 2) when he's tricked into believing his whole life is a total lie and he's not even a real person, AND THOSE ARE PRETTY GOOD REASONS TO BE UPSET. He even gets better by the end of the game, only to be inexplicably super-emofied by that god-awful movie.
I also like Cristian Bale's Batman. I admit, the voice is a bit strange, but it makes sense for him to hide it. He really does make a good Batman though; he plays the playboy aspect of Bruce Wayne very well, and is just as good at playing Batman. Bale is an asshole, no doubt, but he is a good actor and a good Batman.
I'll think of others when I'm not distracted by my roommate and his girlfriend's freakishly loud sex. >_<
This is basically all my opinion too.TheFinalFantasyWolf said:Cloud Strife : FFVII

I liked him in the game and the movie. (Yes the movie too!)
Raiden : Metal Gear Solid 2
Yes I said 2!When your entire life and mission is falling apart no matter the effort you put in, then yes, its ok to be upset. For some reason people always confuse a characters expression of feelings or any kind of frustration as being "whingy". Even if he (or any character) was whingy, whats wrong with that? I don't understand why people are so againest characters acting like actual human beings with feelings.
Tidus : He was alright, I dont get the hate for him either.
AH! Yes, I forgot about Nero, thankyou.nothingspringstomind said:This is basically all my opinion too.TheFinalFantasyWolf said:Cloud Strife : FFVII

These and Nero from DMC4. He cries *once* in the whole game and to be fair, it's for a pretty big reason. (like his entire life has been turned upside down.)
Yet everybody seems to think he's a whingy Emo.
Don't get it.
You're not alone, I think Chuck Greene is way cooler. And I also think they should put him in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 instead of Frank West!JackandTom said:Yeah, gotta go with Desmond. I've seen loads of hate for him but I can't see why. People say he's bland but I disagree.DarkRawen said:They hate Desmond? Seriously? He's my favorite character from the AC series, even if you almost never get to play as him.Froken Keke said:Well, apparently, from what I've read here, everyone hates Desmond from Assassin's Creed, which kind of perplexes me, since I've never seen that dislike anywhere else.
I like him, and I think his story is one of the main reasons why I continue buying the games. (Apart from the fun gameplay, of course.)
As for another character I like that most people don't, Alex Mercer from Prototype. People keep saying that he has no personality, but in reality, being a merciless mass-murderer is actually a personality, albeit a flawed one. Still, he seems to be perfect for his role in the game, being a narcissistic sociopath with no memories fits all that killing.Maybe it's because he's voiced by Nolan North. He was a bit boring in Assassin's Creed 1 but it wasn't really about him. His story became a lot more interesting in Assassins Creed 2 and Brotherhood.

People seem to prefer Frank West for some reason. Frank came across as annoying to me and all he cared about was his "scoop". Anyway, I PREFER CHUCK DAMMIT!
Oh my God, I forgot to mention him too. Right here bro, right here. *brofist*Dane Tesston said:Try as I might, I just can't seem to think of a character I've ever outright hated. I like a ton of characters that people seem to hate. A particular favorite is Silver the Hedgehog. I hear people say he looks like a fan-character or whatever, but I really liked him in Sonic '06 (ignoring all the faults that game had). He had good motivation, but was conflicted in the pursuit of his goals. I also like how he's set apart from other hedgehogs, who are all speed type characters, while he would probably be a power type. I will admit, I prefer his "Venice" preproduction look, but what can you do?
