I don't see why everyone is bashing FOX, it doesn't seem to bash video games. It just says she confused it and shot herself.

Wait, she died? Who says Nintendo's 'bout to get sued?

I highly doubt the child would think it was a Wii remote, specifically. Toddlers don't make that connection when they pick up anything they find. Kids at that age are curious about everything they can get a hold of.

Full blame should go to the parents and their irresponsibility.

Video games don't kill children!

Parents kill children!!!!!

...or at least complete parent idiocy...

God must have a really twisted sense of humor to curse that poor girl with such horrible parents.

THERE IS NO FUCKING WAY THAT ANYONE THINKS THAT VIDEO GAMES ARE ACTUALLY TO BLAME HERE!

...sigh...

Sorry about that.

It just seems that people want to get rid of video games without an actually legitimate arguement.

Examples:

"That video game has tits in it. OUR CHILDREN MUSN'T BE ALLOWED TO SEE THAT!"
(Even though we see tits all the time during babyhood. Seriously I don't get this arguement.)

"There is violence in this video game. That must mean that kids will be more violent!"

or my new favorite:

"My child killed herself with a gun. Hey look, that system has controler that ALMOST resembles a gun. ITS THEIR FAULT."

Basicaly I've given up on the intellegence of the human race.

End of Rant.

First off, Fox news. Secondly, I'd say the girl got what she deserved. I'm a fan of Darwin.
So if your parent's left you alone when you were 3, you would have definitely survived. No, you would have gotten killed, or as you put it, "got what you deserve". Darwin was not stupid, "Survival of the Fittest" is within the natural life cycle of a child is born, brought up by its parents, and then once the child is to a point where it is capable of taking care of itself it is now on a basis of survival of the fittest.

HG131 and Jiraiya72; You're not funny. You're not smarter than everyone else. You're not the high thinking individuals you like to pretend you are. You're sociopaths. You're no better than the bastards who handed this little girl the means to kill herself. You are sick, and you need help.

Doubtless here comes the part where you sit back in smug satisfaction. "Oh, look, I made someone on the internet upset. What a witty individual I am," but I'm honestly concerned for the safety of people near you. Seek psychiatric help, both of you.

On the topic of the news post; there's nothing new to say. The gun should have been locked up, the child should have been taught that it was dangerous, the parents should be put in prison; it's a tradgedy, and it'll happen again unless a fuss is made anew about proper gun safety.

Ban hammers in 3... 2... 1...

OT it is a sad, sad case. Video gaming reference or not, the kid's tragic death was so easily preventable

The average FOX News watcher would easily confuse a gun with a twig or a chair, so this is understandable.

I think that she saw something interesting, had no clue what a gun was, and started playing with it. But not as a Wiimote.

Also, before we get to the usual, and often deserved, Fox News bashing. Click the Fox News link. Fox News ITSELF isn't claiming this. Just the stupid mother.

PPS, to the mother:

Damn what is that image from I can't remember.

IT: The gun was left on the table in the child's reach, her mother was in the room. The violent video games the child played on the Wii are surely to blame for this one.

Well sounds like someone looking for a scapegoat so they don't feel bad about killing their kid.

im just gonna say this, if the kid was raised properly, as in to say, exposed and taught about the gun, i think this whole mess could of been avoided. i was taught at an early age never to touch my pop's guns. even at the age of 3 i knew better.

verdict: parents are guilty.

Quite a logical leap to assume a child picks up a gun thinking its Wii-mote even though they look nothing alike.

And isn't a gun also heavy? And black, not white?

How many more vulnerable people will have to die before gun controls will be tightened or even completely revoked? Speaking as a Brit, I just don't understand why this has been allowed to go on for so long. Blame may not lie with the parents, regardless of all the speculation on this thread, but with a government and a society that is too attatched to an old and outdated ideal about personal defence. Until more people in America wake up to why this problem exists, there will continue to be horrific and tragic accidents like this every day.
