Seriously, it irritates me how a couple random churches do stupid crap like this and make the majority of us Christians look like ignorant and over-sensitive morons. But I think what irritates me more is how everyone seems to see this and think it represents the majority of Christians...

I agree, but it's always the loud minority of faith based groups that get the most attention. Our society loves conflict and adversity, it makes for better ratings and such.

As much as I hate the WBC, I think the best thing we can do is ignore them, or, if you must, laugh at them as you pass. But to put put on a counter-protest is putting more work into these guys than they deserve.

Actually sometimes it has worked. I assume you heard of "the Church of the giant spagetti Monster," right? Anyway, during one of the WBC's protests, a group of the Church of the GSM came in dressed as pirates since it was talk like a pirate day (and pirates are prophets according to the GSM's bible). This took up so much of the medias attention that the WBC got so frustrated they just packed up and left.
