Clarification needed: Why do women LOVE Twilight?

Why do we need clarification on something that's been clarified a shitload already? Whhhhyyyy? I enjoyed the books, the movie was meh but I still enjoyed it. I shouldn't have to clarify any more than that to anyone. And I'm not a teenager, I'm also not the only teenager that has enjoyed the book. It appeals to different audiences in different ways.

Clarify this...Why is it necessary to hate something so damn much, that you have to repeat thread the bloody thing ALL THE TIME.

I haven't really heard much about twilight, though I do know that the author has apparently never fully watched a horror movie finding them too horrible, so I assume its crap.If I was a vampire I'd go around killing and torturing people for fun, not swooning about over some prepubescent girl (isn't he about 100 years old because that just makes it even more creepy)
Well, the books do literally support paedophilia, and have what is tantamount to grooming children for relationships once they become old enough.

So it's insipid, it's creepy, and shits all over existing vampire mythos...what is good about it?

Not reading all nine pages of this, just jumping in real quick-like....

Girls like the character because he's the perfect non-threatening boyfriend... he doesn't pressure her for sex because he can't have it.

I've read the first two books, and I was BORED TO FRIGGAN DEATH just a few pages in. Not to mention that Bella is the sad depiction of all of those weird girls who are constantly in a state of romantic emotionalism and who fall into a state of numbness as described in the second book, perhaps making it compelling to all of those shallow woman who just won't grow up to realize love is not about dependence, jealousy and abusing the other party's confidence. Aside of that, the actor for Edward is not really that cute. To me, he looks like a Davincian statue that's been smacked across the face (several times) with a shovel, something that might come close to anyone who's seen Little Nicky, and he (the character) too is depicted as being a little contirved emo such as:
"Hmm, this girl is in love with me, should I care?
NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH I'LL JUST GO TO ITALY TO COMMIT SUICIDE BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE IT"
On top of it all, the writing is so ABSURDLY bad that I can't help but think that Ms. Meyer just went through some dictionary and started putting in all the words she felt like putting in that would make it sound good. AND PHAILING!
But maybe I'm just biased against it all because before reading Twilight, I read a spanish series of books (yes, I am spanish born and have never lived anywhere else now STOP ASKING) from which Twilight rips off to the point of exasperation. Not a single topic in Twilight cannot be seen in the forementioned series (Memories of Idhun, by the way, and I don't think it's been translated yet, but be patient, it'll be worth the wait). Two guys, after one girl, one of them is a cold, unfeeling bastard for whatever reason and the other is a passionate, loving and naive kid, and they constantly fight each other for the right to conquer the woman's heart (although the result in MoI is much fairer). Not to be antidogmatic, but I seriously think that spreading the idea that woman are prizes to be won and held is simply gonna create more unwanted sexism. I simply think that Twilight doesn't deserve all the praise it gets, and I have reasons to believe so. SO TRY DENYING IT!

Easy way to get thread posts? Talk about Twilight, there are at least 20 in each site I roam in the wee hours. This one has been the best so far..........

Well, I know Utah has lax marriage laws, but I didn't think they went that far...

Because they know it really shits introverted little nerds on the internet.
Oh, very this.

Eh, it's an interesting concept covered up by empty writing. My thesis is that the fangirls like it because if this woman can become rich and famous by writing that, then their fanfics will have no trouble.

At least the book's readable. If a bit tedious.

Actually, it's more accurate to blame the editor. Joe Quesada had it in for Spidey's marriage because he can't cope with the fact that a fictional character has a more successful life than him and wanted to fuck him over.

The writer (Joe Straczynski, who has had his own problems writing the title) was on the verge of having his name taken off the final issue in protest.

I suspect I'd get laid more if I looked like him than the slightly scary person I actually look like.

Of course, in what promo images of Twilight I've seen he does look like he's been involved in a tragic accident with a can of hairspray, which will ruin anyone's look.

I laughed. Here take my share of the Internets, you have earned it.

Oh and I hated the movie, it destroyed everything I thought was awesome about vampires.
God how I hated that fracking movie.

Indeed, lighting a can of hairspray on fire whilst applying it will ruin anyone's look.

Now, I admit that the books aren't any Subtle Knife or Angels+Demons,
Its cute how you say that, as if Dan Brown is some sort of literary barometer for our generation.
Not really, it's just that even though I liked the Twilight series, Dan Brown is still a better author than Stephanie Meyer. However, I accept that isn't saying much in general. This probably seems contradictory, but I wouldn't rate Meyer as a great author, and neither would I rate Dan Brown as great, but I still enjoy their books to some extent. It's a similar sort of thing to the mentality where I'm 18 and still enjoy the young teen books written by Anthony Horowitz (in particular the Power of Five and Alex Rider series). However, that's more acceptable given I began reading those at the right age anyway...

However, as it happens the only authors I consider truly great myself, apart from Alan Moore (since comic books and graphic novels don't count here), are Ian Irvine and Terry Pratchett. There are plenty of generally great ones out there, but they're my favourites.

Oh, I know I'm generalizing.. and not all girls go gaga for vampires.. but the ones that like horror are attracted to vampires, because vampires are primal dominators who attack by biting women's necks.. There is something in that that appeals to the lizard brain of women who tend to enjoy horror...

Girls don't typically go gaga over werewolves, or zombies, or ghosts, or mummies.. but they love a vampire, because you can write a romance novel about a vampire, and you can't write one about a zombie.

I can only speak from my own experience though.. maybe my female friends (and girlfriend) are all just crazy vampire lovers. There was someone a couple pages back talking about Alucard. She pretty much filled the generalization I'm making to a tee.

I stand by my hypothesis about the situation. Feel free to disagree :)
I shall, in that I find you can write a love novel about Zombies "falling" for a human and eating their brain! I mean just look at the song by Johnathan Coultan (Prob miss spelled)called "Re your Brains" in which a zombie guy sends a e-mail to a coworker about opening the door and his "colleagues" all enter and eat their brains....If that can happen why not about a chick zombie getting enough brains to retain emotions and forcing some sort of male attention on herself or something...But NOOO the damn people in HOLLYWOOD think that chicks would find that sick and not many actors would play anything like that. And yes I know since I was Compared to friggen Damned Johnny Dep (Vile as he may be it proves my point)! My point being that Chicks are only thinking that any guy that looks cute on screen, that all guys they want to be with need to act like!

Same reason guys like Spiderman. An unlikeable and selfish nerd gets bitten by a spider, becomes awesome, and then has beautiful women like Betty Brant, Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane, Black Cat, (Kitty Pride) and others jump on him like he's the greatest thing slice sliced bread.

Twilight is the female version of this.
except that spider man was a super hero who showed the world that "with great power, comes great responsibility" you know, a moral story about a super hero, it wasn't really a "he's so hot" thing for spider man.
Actually everyone from Gwen Stacy to Sue Richards remarked about how handsome he was on first seeing him. Gwen Stacy never even found out that he was Spiderman Even when he was in costume. By the time Steve Ditko stopped drawing him, he was already much more handsome. When John Roma came on board he looked like a character from a romance comic.

The Great power with great responsibility thing was a just an excuse to hide the power fantasy aspect. It worked, I read and enjoyed all of Ultimate Spiderman.

Twilight just has a bunch of Mormon philosophy instead.

I am completely mistified by the Twilight phenomena as well. I feel that I must simply shake my head and place the fans of such meaningless drivel in the same mental compartment as I put Dr Phil fans; to be forever ignored. I find it sad that a novel series written for "young adults" is getting so much attention from true adults.
