CNN isn't going to respond to this. First rule of media, if you get torn apart by someone and have no defense, ignore it. Your viewers won't know, they go to you for news.
I wholly agree with your response. US news is largely based on sensationalism and ratings. Anything using hard facts and rational/logical thinking is pretty much ignored.

Personally, I'd like to see everyone at CNN responsible in this submit a written and public apology. Unfortunately, that might be a little too much to hope for...

Aren't you a bit late to the game CNN?

Personally, I'm on Nogami's side. As distasteful as a lot of people may find such games, they are only games, and games intended for rational, responsible adults at that. I'm a staunch opponent of censorship, so I say if said rational, responsible adults want to buy such games, they should be allowed to do so.

Well played, Mr Nogami.
I wholeheartedly agree with this post.

Nogami went on to state that while pornographic material can be damaging to children, games such as RapeLay were intended for adult audiences, and that the reason Western children were getting their hands on such games was due to piracy and ineffective game rating standards.

"Would it be too much to ask that appropriate age restrictions are put in place in stores in your country so that the rational adults can buy legitimate copies?" Nogami said.
We have a word for what just happened to CNN, and that word is BURNED!

I freaking love Nogami. That man is a genius!

Nogami is indeed the man. I completely agree with his post and hope CNN attempts to try and argue with him. I doubt they'll succeed.

I think I'll go watch Strike Witches now to support Nogami's work.

Whilst I find these sorts of games ver distasteful, the hysteria over it is a bit rich coming from a country like the US, where a child can blow an adults head off with a legal gun.
I can assure you that blowing people's heads off is illegal. Also, it has little to do with rape.

OT: It's nice to see a media company get called on their sensationalism, but I doubt it will get much mainstream attention.

Nicely done there.

Hes got a problem with his argument.

There are far fewer instances of rape in japan because the laws regarding rape are different. To simplify, no damage, no rape.

So as long as the rapist uses lube, no crime.
I'm not a criminologist, but sadly I wouldn't be surprised if that only eliminated a minority of rapes from consideration. Especially the kind of rapes that are (apparently) depicted in the game.

I'm glad someone called out the overblown sensationalism in western news reporting, who's first goal is to gain ratings first, entertain second, and inform a distant third. From local news to national, on all channels.

It's amazing what you can get used to in the news when you have nothing but different piles of shit to choose from.

I think he's referring to our barbaric act of buying a pistol.

Or they're going to bring up "statistics" and "experts" that prove him wrong. They've done that before; it's pretty much the only reason anyone took Jack Thompson seriously.
They really cannot. The statistics for sexual crimes in Japan are actually pretty public (i covered this topic before, so I did some research).

here are a couple interesting links:

I do find it strange that CNN took so long to cover a game like this. It's been almost 4 years since the game was released. I guess RapeLay has been rather obscure in Western culture up until now.

I wonder if the allowment of things like sexual content is what makes it less prevalent in Japan? A classic case of "It's legal, now it sucks". Kinda like how in 1984, when the two protagonists get into a super-taboo relationship, it's steamy.

Could go along the same lines of marijuana-related crimes likely dropping if it were legalized.

NOTE: For clarification, I'm certainly not saying "Legalize rape", just "don't take extreme censorship all the way."

I think the ownage was even harder from CNN's pet expert, who basically said, on air, that no-one would have heard of this game if it weren't for the media outrage about it.
