Really? WoW down below Resident Evil, Mario Kart and Assassin's Creed?
Funnily enough my girlfriend is less annoyed by WoW then she is of my COD addiction. She says it looks a lot more interesting then most of the other games I play. Now how to find a way to get her to start playing...

Also Angry Birds! lol My girlfriend introduced me to that game!

Correlation does not imply causation.

But in this case it probably does. People are stupid and several people get even more stupid when they plop themselves in front of a TV screen.

That doesn't sound right at all.
I guess because there's marriages in WoW? For each relationship in reality it messes up, two are formed in virtual reality.

I'm surprised Angry Birds is up there. I love the game, I took months to get 3 stars on each stage, but ruining relationships? I can't even understand that.

And this is why I game when my girlfriend's doing other shit, not when she wants to talk or spend time with me or anything. Except DnD, which we both play as part of the same group.

To the WoW comment: A lot of gamers who play WoW (at least on my server) play with their significant others, thereby making it less likely that the game itself will cause the relationship to break up. Not saying however that WoW doesn't cause these things. I can see competetive games (CoD and such) causing breakups between people who play together though, but WoW actually promotes team-building and rewards those who work together, which I believe is the crux of building relationships.
Which can also be a bane to relationships if one isn't up to par.

Don't see Kingdom Hearts, Mass Effect, or Final Fantasy there.

So I'm good. :)

But seriously, do these guys have nothing better to do? Video games get enough crap thrown at them. We don't need more at this point.

Wow! really!

If it was me a relationship with a girl would make gaming break up with me! It would be the opposite way around :p

That is... if I had a girlfriend :(

Keep in mind, this study was of gamers IN relationships. It doesn't even take into account all the guys out there who are just too busy gaming to bother chasing girls.

Although that poll representative may think it's a sad thing, I don't. For one, if guys are abandoning their girls to play games, that means those games must be pretty damn awesome. Second, the world has enough humans, a few of them not procreating isn't something to cry about.

Of course, one alternative explanation is that UK girls are just too demanding and aren't worth the time. (Note: I don't make that claim... but it would explain the data)

I think you will find this a more compelling argument

Why doesn't it sound right? If anything, World of WarCraft is a type of game that couples usually find easier to play together than normally. Heck, there are examples of people getting together or even getting married after encountering each other through WoW. In comparison, Call of Duty is something people usually play to the exclusion of everything and everyone else.

That said, neglect is often the reason why a relationship goes badly or even falls apart. Games are just one of many things that can cause someone to ignore their partner too much.

Where the fuck is Worms?!

OT: I couldn't be in a relationship with someone who wasn't comfortable with my gaming habits anyway, so i merely shrug at something like this - it's like someone who doesn't care for sport in the least getting a boy or girlfriend that is sport-mad. Sooner or later it's going to end in disaster because aside from the jealousy thing, you just won't "get" each other, and that'll lead to a rift. Opposites attract, but it's still good to have similar hobbies - or at least some interest in the other's hobby.

Yes, games have magical properties to split up relationships. As opposed to the individuals caring about the games more than their partners (their fault), their partners being closed minded and thinking games are a kids thing (partners fault) a lack of compromise over time spent gaming (both peoples fault).

It's not like games are the only thing here. What irritates me is how some people go into a relationship and expect them to be able to behave exactly as before: The gamer playing for 8 hours straight or cancelling other things as if they don't have anyone else to think of, and the other partner for expecting themselves to be the sole focus of their partners life.

HAHAHA true that, no reason to take this seriously then.

Besides, if you ditch romantic evenings becuause you want to "get your game on", doesn't that say something about your partner too. if angry birds is really more imprtant than to spend time with thta person, that person can't be very pleasant.

I can see why Super Mario Bros. and Mario Kart would be on there.

SMB: "No, jump there. Not there, there. What? No get that thing, no the other thing. HOW ARE YOU HAVING TROUBLE WITH THIS?!"

Mario Kart: Blue Shell. That is all.

Anyway, I find it kind of sad that some people put games over relationships. Well, maybe not so sad if the relationship was crappy beforehand, but still.
A Critical Miss comic represents this perfectly. It's a shame I'm too lazy to find and embed it.
