The couple of people saying she might not have been on drugs; so what? It doesn't make what she did any less stupid. In fact, not being on them means she's even more stupid.

Don't tell me, tell Atheist. . Humans can't comprehend the thousands upon thousands of deaths occurring every day/week, so we transfer that to one person that had some sort of connection to us. Keeps us from being wet sobbing sacks all day anyway.
I did. Apologies if I didn't make it clear.

I agree. Look, pulling off your sweater is usually a task that requires both of your hands, right? So why would you do it during a time that requires both of your hands to be occupied? And then you have a passenger grab a hold of the wheel while the car is careening down a highway? You bet it was idiotic.

Also, everyone here needs to stop acting like they've never made a mistake. Sure, yours didn't cost any human lives, but no one is perfect, and we learn by mistakes like this. She didn't kill people on purpose, so lets all just grow up a bit and ease off the "she should be tortured then killed" crap.
The problem here is that she was on drugs and attempting to remove a sweater while driving. if she ran a red light, it would still be horrible but also something most of us have done. Forgivable, in other words. I don't know about you, but I rarely get hight and then attempt to remove sweaters while driving. That is what makes this so particularly heinous.
One time I was driving along and my friend in the back seat was being a massively annoying dick, more annoying than he usually was (why the hell did I ever give him a lift back from college every day... anyway) and I looked up in the mirror and told him to stfu. While I did that however I ran a red light. I got lucky there was no one around but had someone been crossing I'd have probably killed them and it would have been as equally pointless a death as the one above.

Don't get me wrong, it was a terrible tragedy and she needs to pay her dues; but some people in this thread are really going insane with talk of torture and bears as if they've never done anything in their lives that might have killed someone had the variables been different.

Also it doesn't say what kind of drugs they were, for all we know they could be prescription drugs that she was having an adverse reaction to. That happened to me once, I took some antibiotics for a small cut (infection sucks) and I almost passed out a few hours later. Doctor said it happens sometimes that you'll be the small % of people who have bad reactions to random chemicals. Had I been driving I'd have probably crashed.
I will take your last statement as a valuable one. If that turns out to be the case, I rescind my previous statement. However, if she was, as I suspect, on recreational drugs or even sober, I believe that this is what capitol punishment is for. I'm not calling for torture like some others, I only wish justice for this terrible crime.
Taking off a sweatshirt while driving is a terrible crime? Accidents happen, get over it. Terrible crimes happen everywhere. Drug dealers killing peoples families is a terrible crime. This is simply an accident. A sad one, but an accident never-the-less.
If you kill three people, however unintentionally, for your own comfort, yes, it is a very serious crime. Those drug dealers are despicable people, to be sure, perhaps far worse than this woman. Comparison does not erase guilt,in my opinion things like this should be dealt with severely and quickly, so that they may be prevented from occurring in the future.

I had just picked up the CoH pack from the Steam sale going on this weekend and I was reminded about what a fantastic game it was, and how I'd never really spent the time with it that I'd planned to in the past.

His wife lost her husband, his children a father and the world a great game designer.

Maybe America should put a fucking death sentence on driving while under the influence. Maybe then people would actually fucking pay attention.
There's a death sentence in many states for killing another human. Does that stop people from murdering?

Can one of you clarify exactly where in the article it states that the girl was positively under the influence of a substance? Or will you only be able to point out where it says they believe she was, without offering any proof to support their claim?

People need to start reading the article.

It goes to show how fragile and precious life really is that such a seemingly-innocuous action led to three deaths. It's a matter of good fortune that Mr. Wood's wife and unborn child at least survived.

This should prove two things that any driver should already know:
- There is no such thing as a "safe moment" while driving
- There is no such thing as a "safe amount of 'buzzed'" while driving

We all make mistakes behind the wheel; we're all human and imperfect. But if you're not willing to do whatever it takes to minimize the chances of a mistake causing something terrible to happen, then just don't pick up the keys.

in America a conviction is a death sentence. no one will hire you and you will live in poverty for the rest of your life.
Yep. Besides, all the death sentence does is put criminals out of their misery. I'd rather die than do a long stretch in jail, and many people would say the same thing.

I get it, and its as decadent as it is weak. When rapists and murderers sentenced for 2 months to 2 years and get out earlier for good behaviour, death penalty with torture before it is a viable option. Subhuman idiots who do drugs and drive inebriated and endanger other peoples lives should be punished the same way. Painfully and for a long duration. They are a waste of space and disgusting stain on humanities genepool.

Not even the wisest can see all ends.

Well, judging by making an awfully moronic decision (trying to take off a piece of clothing while driving, and letting the passenger steer) makes me think she probably was. Either that or she was a fucking idiot. I'd rather think a person was under the influence then to think they were honestly that stupid.

And yes, I realize no matter what the result of the action people will never stop doing it.

A Washington State Patrol spokesman said the wreck was caused when Weichert attempted to remove her sweater while passenger Samantha Bowling held the wheel. Bowling lost control of the vehicle, which crossed into the opposing lane and collided with Wood's SUV.
Really? How could someone commit such an egregious crime against common sense? Pull over first? Maybe? Please?

Wisdom is the supreme part of happiness; and reverence towards the gods must be inviolate. Great words of prideful men are ever punished with great blows, and, in old age, teach the chastened to be wise. antigone

it was said about 2400 years ago figured it fit this situation she is going to be punished her entire life by her own guilt and the justice system.
