I lost one through one of those stupid MSN "Shit dude, are you OK? I saw this over the weekend, I could have sworn it was you! *link*"... I stupidly clicked, it loaded a virus (into my defunct Norton, no less), which attempted to use the program's email system to send spam emails. I sorted it so I didn't *properly* lose it, but it was a close call.

Yes you can, there are viruses that can send too much voltage to the motherboard, cpu, or even gpu which will completely destroy the part rendering it useless. Although you don't have to worry so much about it, because attacks like that are usually only done to certain people who have pissed off someone who knows what they're doing.
Without going in to to much detail everything you said there is rubbish.

How many computers have you lost to viruses? And if your current computer has any, how many and what kind?

.....Where did you get the viruses?

ALSO: Cookie for the reference.
None, and the reference is from Strongbad. That is actually why I clicked on this thread.

I've never lost an entire computer, but I once downloaded a file which various software gave me no fewer than three warnings about.

It tried to destroy (not wipe, destroy) my hard drive and convinced the computer that explorer.exe was a virus. The only way it survived was by having the power forcefully removed and quarantining the entire hard-drive so it could be safely scanned from a different computer.

None from viruses, I have Edgarware.

I have destroyed a couple by essentially making them eat themselves...

Homestarunner!

I only lost one on mine, but I don't even know if it was a virus, all I needed to do was a quick reinstall.
