It is obviously to compare all the tragedies we hear daily by severity.

For example in in the same weekend that Hamas attacked Israel and killed so many, Russian bombardment of Ukraine killed another ~100 civillians and it was treated as just another week without anything to report. And that is just civillians. We still get hundreds of casualities daily in the Ukrainian war and have so for many months.

So considering which of these issues is bigger and where our politicians should allocate how much help for ... yes, numbers are great.



Of course if you only care for the emotional impact, numbers do basically nothing because too abstract.

Oh sweet summer child, you have no idea what people are capable of. Remember Hamas isn't the Palestinian government, they couldn't care less about "strategic assets" or "civilians". They care about killing Jews and Islamic uprisings. They would absolutely blow up a hospital - for one, those people are already going to die and are way more valuable as social media fodder blaming the Jews, and for second it enflames racial and ethnic tensions across the world and cast a dark cloud of Biden's trip.
I'm not saying the Israelis wouldn't bomb a hospital, but at least for now the evidence points to Islamic terrorists - I think the name is Gaza Jihad or something like that?

It doesn't. What matters is that what was stated was incorrect yet people all over the internet, including here, just jumped in believing it. This also effected Biden's visit to the region as he was supposed to meet with leaders of nearby countries but those have either been called off or postponed due to outrage over this specific piece of news.

Like I said earlier, there's going to be plenty of horrible things done by the IDF as this continues, but we should be logical and only believe what we can reasonably confirm. Just as skepticism over the beheaded babies was wise, so too should have the skepticism over this been. I do not like seeing people devolve into a bloodthirsty mob.

That's fair. I just find the bickering over the number of casualties in particular to be a bit of a "forest for the trees" situation. Plenty of other odd details, but the quibbling over how many people actually died/were injured shouldn't really be used as an "a-ha", ya know?

Sure. Logic says that if deaths in Gaza are about 4000, and that includes 500 in the hospital strike, then Israel has merely killed 3500 of them (over 2000 estimated to be women and children).

And of course Israel has also destroyed the homes, properties and livelihoods of tens of thousands Palestinians, with hundreds of thousands now refugees in camps desperately short of things like, just as an example, drinking water.

That's a nice sentiment, but it might be worth reflecting on the fact that you responded to someone who didn't say the hospital had been destroyed with a rant about how people keep saying the hospital was destroyed - which wasn't exactly the gold standard of being logical and believing what can reasonably be confirmed.

I like how, "the IDF is lying" became crickets chirping.

Turns out the only part that was struck was a parking lot, there were not 500 casualties, it was not an IDF rocket.

I responded to someone basing their knowledge off of what a YouTube influencer said. Someone who very quickly jumped the gun to believe that it was known within minutes, in the dark of night, what was hit, who hit it, and how many people were killed.

You know, where you can clearly see the blast radius, a lack of a destroyed hospital in that blast radius, and a lack of triple digit bodies that would be impossible to remove in such a short amount of time?
