Good point. I love Conker's bad fur day. .thahat said:conquers bad furday was also on n64. god i had a lot of fun with that game, and i dont remember its controlls to ahve been bad. actualy quite good for that day and age even.. so n64 unsuitable for shooters? no. i think you hit it right o nthe head with perfect dark and goldeneye.mjc0961 said:Coming from the guy who made another N64 shooter that played fairly poorly (hello N64 controller you are terrible for shooters)
Isn't the game essentially five hours long? Somewhat near that number. Half Life innovated in storyline and FEAR was just fear. :XIrridium said:Well Bioshock did innovative stuff. Well for the first 5 or so hours at least, then it turned into another generic shooter, but those first 5 hours were fucking amazing.
oddly enough this reminded me of Captain Price's priceless quote: "Useless Wanker!!!"Dan E said:snip
No, its about 10 hours. But you could just cut out everything after the first five hours and it would have been a better experience.mParadox said:Isn't the game essentially five hours long? Also, you might want to check your post, since you've quoted me in such a ways as though I'm saying what you actually are. XD
Poorly, uh... no... Jet Force Gemini, although a bit limited in it's controls, played fairly well, also Turok games played rather nicely, also the (quite atrocious) Duke Nukem Zero Hour's controls played fairly well, of course not mentioning Golden Eye, Perfect Dark AND Conker's Bad Fur Day wich wasn't a shooter at it's heart, until you bring 4 friends and start decapitating each other with katanas, play sniper duels and go kamikaze with grenades... ahh... I miss those days...mjc0961 said:Coming from the guy who made another N64 shooter that played fairly poorly (hello N64 controller you are terrible for shooters)
All those are PC titles, which was the point Hollis stated.Experimental said:I can think of these examples on innovation:
Battlefield 1942
Deus Ex
Call of Duty 2
Crysis
Ok, not all of them are recently, but they are post Golden eye, and somehow they put a lot of innovations in their formulas, that were duplicated over and over in other PC titles and Consoles.
Of course, but the article says he cannot think of an innovative PC exclusive FPS, which reminded me those gems, along with Zeno clash, that is.righthanded said:All those are PC titles, which was the point Hollis stated.
True there aren't many PC exclusive shooters, but probably what he meant is that even PC versions are developing the genre more. Take TF2 for example. It's on every major platform except Wii, but the PC gamers get a better experience from modded maps, custom game modes, the Mann Co. Store, and everything else. Seems to me he's saying a lot of the innovation comes from the community even in PC games, but that's pure conjecture. Even so, because of xbox live restrictions and to some extent a lack of gamers on PSN, those platforms are less friendly to change.Nieroshai said:I'd like to see those innovations on PC that didn't make it to console. As far as I know, there are few modern shooters that arent on at least PC AND one of the consoles.
Also, I do miss split-screen multiplayer. It's what made the Gamecube's shooters fun. And sure the Halos and Call of Duty do it, but everyone else has jumped that ship.
