PC innovation? I can't think of any beyonf portal that innovate beyond graphics and the AAA titles have removed items more then added (COD dedicated servers anyone)

Console / multi-platofrm innovation: Borderlands, Bioshock to name but two.

I miss splitscreen too, but this thought bubble needs popping.

I figured MW2 was more of a console-centric shooter myself. See: Dedicated Servers issue. It doesn't matter for the console side but it's a real letdown for the PC crowd.

Also, welcome aboard with the registering. I'd like to redirect your attention to some of the other games mentioned in the thread. PC-centric FPSes over the past few years have tended to be a bit more innovative and interesting than console-centric ones. Even if multi-platform releases do muddy the line between PC and console, it's often fairly easy to see whether a game was a PC game ported to consoles or the other way around.

For example, anything by Valve is guaranteed to be a PC-centric game with console ports being the redheaded stepchildren.

You know they can probably call it innovation if they gave Console Shooters a Prone option. XD
You mean Medal of Honor?
clarification, in multiplayer.
Modern Warfare 2 allowed you to be prone in multiplayer.
They have it, it's just that people exploit it for perfect aim and a quick dodge when meeting an enemy around the corner. They see, drop, aim down the sights, raise gun to balls height, and shoot. Great exploit though. Just like the ol' sticky grenade when a chump tries to commando shank you. They get clipped, you laugh.

OT: It's hard to make shooters these days that don't copy off of anything. Sprint, Camo, Jetpacks, First person shooting, Regenerating shields, Aiming down your sight, Time manipulation, Element manipulation, Telekinesis, Redenning screen for health depletion, Guns with ammo, Guns that overheat, Weapons that burn, electrocute, corrode, and explode, Alien weapons, Melee weapons, Crouch, Prone, Obligatory stealth mission, the list goes on.

The problem here is confusing "innovation" with "novelty". I'd also suggest that innovation solely for the sake of novelty is not really innovation.

Anything I think significant enough to warrant the term "innovation" probably moves the game outside the strict confines of the genre. Outside of that, what defines "innovation" is pretty subjective. For most people it boils down to "feature I like" or perhaps "feature I like I didn't see in previous, similar games" to which there are always those of sharp mind and memory to point out how long ago their favorite game X that you didn't play actually did that feature better before you were born.

Seems easy to me to claim that there is no more inovation when you contributed to one of the most iconic games of the genre.

I think the limitations on the console control scheme really hold back innovation for the console gaming. The PC's ability to embrace the mod community, the keyboard + mouse setup (which has been time and time again considered the superior control scheme for shooters, by many objective opinions), the 'testbed' nature of developers to use the current graphics/physics/cpu tech, possibility for REAL private servers with creative admins - etc etc.

i have both console and pc and play both, but i feel that console innovation can/will and maybe has already been stifled due to the above mentioned points at the very least. i wish it not to be true, but i feel it is, for now. *heres to hoping i am proved otherwise to myself and others who feel the same*

But how are PC FPSs any better??
