Conversely I could say that if I could change one thing about the games industry it would be lack lustre developers. Another thing they need to remember? These games aren't free last time I checked, so if somebody ponyed up the cash for your game and is disappointed, you are gonna get the same feedback that every company gets.

Does this guy honestly believe that even people like Nestle or Mars or Disney don't get this crap? Of course they do, they just don't have official forums where it is all out for people to see. Its in un-constructive letters from people and in constructive letters from people.

This is simply the medium they work in and they just need to accept that. CoD games don't have the best reputation for being "friendly" and its all ok for us to have to deal with these people in MP Matches but heaven forbid the holier-than-thou devs and even more heaven CONDEMN the COMMUNITY MANAGERS deal with the community, good or bad, its your job description.

I don't *need* to be a contrarian. I have the PS3 version of Black Ops. How many connection issues is okay before before bitching is unavoidable?

Then don't make a game catering to the whiny I-need-to-shoot-a-guy-within-5-seconds-with-a-grim-and-gritty-dirty-unrealistic-look; Yeah I said it, and I'm a primary color loving, lack of realism that loves me some crazy pastry chefs riding a monkey and wielding a kitten firing cross bow at the evil forces of banana zombies(all made up just now, sounds fun as well). I love my Armor Mayhem! Colorful world/objects with primary colors, it's free, satirical take on the exclamations on kill-streaks and fps's in general, and did I mention it's free?

Whilst i agree the community is prone to bitching (im looking at YOU NeoGaf), black-ops brought a lot of problems to the series it did not have before and further exasibated some of the existing flaws especially in the singleplayer department. There is also the issue that Activision tries to sell us the same fucking game every year. As a series, CoD has given gamers a LOT more to ***** about than most.
It's exacerbated. Sorry, didn't mean to troll, but that has to be the funniest spelling error i've ever seen. Do you come from a country that doesnt speak english? Like Britain?

It's not gamers in general, it's the community he's monitoring.

Raise your hand if you think the CoD community is mature and/or sophisticated in it's feed back, by-and-large.

Treyarch need to, for Black Ops: -release the damn mod tools
-Have the 5 map DLC, $5-$10 would be more acceptable, but this is more the fault of Activision than Treyarch.
-Actually allowing players to own their own servers rather than renting them.
- Full fledged expansion pack, with lots of new maps, weapons and maybe extra single player content. Should make it like BC2's vietnam expansion where there's a seperate menu you go to play the expansion, so the community isn't divided as much.

It's a little unclear what type of bitching he is referring to, and what he counts as "bitching".

The thing is, while there is a lot of nonconstructive whine going on in the gamer community, he can't expect us to swallow everything they give us and be happy, that isn't exactly going to help "creativity and innovation" either. Yes, Black Ops has been taking a lot of crap from the gaming community and while it gets a little repetitive, it's not entirely unfounded.
by bitching, is the pepole who would say something sucks without any factual intelligence to back it up. this takes place in the ps3 vs xbox argument, the windows/osx argument, and it just shows that most of the gaming community is retarded. black ops is one of the best multiplayer fps ever, and even if it was waay overrated, it does not suck. at all. it is in fact amazing. go play it.

If you want the bitching to stop, perhaps you should make a game that doesn't suck. Black Ops deserves all the bitching that it gets, because it's a horrible game. How hard can it be to study CoD4 and copy what it did well? Honestly, Treyarch.
Oh the irony

Well maybe if he absorbed some of the negative comments and made improvements to the games his company is producing there would be less for him to complain about. Yes there may be some whiny commenters that want the game changed to the exact way they want it, but there must also be a good chunk of constructive criticism in there.

I agree with what he's saying but...

"It's a creative industry - the most creative form of entertainment in existence," he said. "Too many developers who try new things are getting burned by 'pundits' and angry entitled fans who look to be contrarian, sometimes simply for the sake of being contrarian

Does he really think this describes his own games? From what I understand people are complaining about Black Ops for its bugs, not for "trying something new"...

"Fans are clingy complaining dipshits who will never ever be grateful for any concession you make. The moment you shut out their shrill, tremulous voices the happier you will be for it."

Just a couple of days ago I read a news story about how Treyarch's latest BlOps patch has broken theatre mode (whatever that is), whilst a number of people still can't play the game in spite of their perfectly-capable hardware.

Whilst I agree that gamers are needlessly negative for the sake of it... Is this guy fucking serious? With the problems on his own game?

I'm also starting to notice these sorts of comments coming from certain types of developers. I've never seen people like Valve or BioWare say this sort of thing.
They probably think it though. Its like if PC developers (like Valve and others) are a native population, and Treyarch is a tourist. When the tourist first enters, he will probably say "Jesus, this place is screwed up" (as Treyarch is saying now). Valve, Epic Games, even Bungie software, are PC developers, they know what you are supposed to do and what you are not. You do not do things to "punish" the community since they have a sizable population of hackers who will mess you up. But you should promote the modding community, as mods can be amazing (just ask Valve how Counterstrike and TF2 went, and ask DICE how Desert Storm went). Treyarch is a console developer, they have made games for the 360, gamecube and the such. As a console developer, you can just pump out a game, maybe patch it once, and never worry about a thing. It is a different ball game on the consoles. You probably have no idea what I am talking about because I ramble. The point is, Treyarch is just wining (ironically), and the reason Valve and BioWare don't complain is because they have embraced the community as a whole.
