Baneblade, hands down.
Nothing says badass like a tank the size of a house.

^^ this,
this post because this guy doesnt include a turret farm in his description of the baneblade.
baneblades make things go down and stay down, and tau were way op so i ignore all mention of their units.

Prophets in the original Empire Earth. I could beat nuclear bomb wielding superpowers with naked old men that have sandwich boards that declare 'THE END IS NIGH'.

Why is this in off-topic?

Anyway. My absolute favorite might be the Teutonic Knight from Age of Empires 2, if it weren't for the Kadeshi Multi-Beam Frigates, which are absolutely wonderful, both in design and in function.

In a game where a single beam weapon requires an entire frigate, this thing has four on something midway between a frigate and a corvette (the next size down). And it spins when it fires.
You win. Everything. FOREVER.

Yeah, I agree with this guy. The Multibeam Frigate is the most badass and incredibly cool-looking RTS unit I've ever seen - and when you consider that it's from Homeworld, a game with nothing but badass and incredibly cool-looking ships, that's an achievement.

Honourable mention:

This thing looks cool, has some badass guns, is heavily armoured, is cost-effective... but my favourite thing about it is just scrolling up to it when I'm harvesting resources after a mission, and listening to the absolutely divine sound its engine makes when idling.

I have always loved good old fashioned zerglings in SC2. Yeah I know they die faster than gerbils in a garbage compactor but I love watching 50 speedlings tear through an enemy base like paranhas.

Hero units from Warcraft 3

The Mountain King: He can hit you to stun you, throw a hammer to stun you, or smack the ground to slow you down; and if he is high enough level he turns into a giant silver dwarf (yes I realize its an oxymoron) that is immune to magic.

Dark Ranger in Frozen throne: What a lovely gryphon you built, its mine now.

Dreadlord: Vampire commander who can drop demonic rocks on people.

actually they are elite soldiers, trained to be as perfect a warrior as humanly possible(Space marines are not quite human, so they don't count).
They're still just dudes with armour and an interesting selection of weaponry, 'elite soldiers' or not.

Haven't yet played Homeworld 2 unfortunately, though I have it on my desk next to me now (and at long fucking last I AM GETTING A NEW PC YEEEAAAAAHHHHH... and hopefully it'll be able to run games older than Homeworld 1). That ship looks cool. I heard Homeworld 2 wasn't as good as Homeworld 1, though?

dark archon from starcraft. Nothing like taking a good 50 of em with full energy to your opponent's base and taking their army from them while they watch and I laugh maniacally. Good stuff.
