We should invade pansy canada, since they believe in diplomatic ways. Come on, it took them 100 years to break away from Great Britain! I say we ANNEX CANADA

Invaded, theoretically. Held.. not likely. North America would be very difficult to hold on to as a territory for the same reason Russia has been very difficult to take. There's just too much landmass to fall back into. Doubly so if Canada came to the aid of the US. Between the expanse of northern Canada and the midwestern United States there'd be no real way to pin down resistance.

Add to the fact that any invasion would basically have to cross an ocean to get started, and the whole thing becomes a mire. The invading force's supply lines would be very, very stretched and vulnerable. So an invader could do a lot of punitive damage, kill a lot of people, but in the end it wouldn't hold.

If there was some sort of "No nukes allowed policy" then maybe. Otherwise, the US has more nuclear warheads than any other country. If the entire world invaded the US, the US would just nuke the entire world.

Well I'm sure it's possible, but it would be quite the chore. What with the current state of the economy, I don't think the citizens would respond very well to a foreign nation(s) trying to take the place over. And they all have guns, so that would get difficult.

Fuck that We'll send in the SAS and you'll be taken over before you know it.
I don't mean to flame your armed forces, good as they may be, but from what I understand, the SAS are trained to invade countries but not take them over. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think the SAS are going to sneak into the White House, kill the president, and fill in for him without anyone noticing. Also, there aren't enough SAS to launch a behind-the-scenes battle, either.
Didn't you know. One SAS regiment is supposedly able to take over the average-szed country. And not a 3rd world one, a developed country.
Yes, supposedly. Also, source pl0x?

Edit: Wait ware we talking about invading the counrty, or taking it over? Those are different; I don't think starting a new government is in the SAS field training.

It's a land mass, it has borders, therefore it can be invaded.

As for needing the rest of the world, not likely, China by themselves could do it. Americans as a society feel far too safe, with one (big) exception their mainland has never been attacked in the last century and a half and the US feel itself to be invincible.
An attack on the mainland would seriously damage US that, not to mention the reputation of it's military. Vietnam showed ably that once the public question their military everything starts going downhill. I think invading a country as large as the US would hinge as much on propaganda as it would actual battles.

As for an invading force staying put for any length of time, or how much of the US they could claim if they did, that's impossible to tell.

Actually, I think you are forgetting how galvanized the citizens of the US can get when the nation is challenged. Any coalition that formed to attack the US would find they have stirred up a hornets nest. If there is one thing that we in the US hate its being challenged in that we tend to get defensive, so if a coalition banded together to attack us well then congratulations you just did what no politician could do in the history of the US, you just unified us into a nation of a single people looking to put foot to ass against anyone who woudl dare challenge the sovereignty of our nation.

i think it's possible. not easy but possible. But the difficult part would be to having an army moving to the US unseen. If somebody somewhere gather a 20k men army, and put it on boat, i guess the intelligence agencies will noticed it and nuke it before it get there. But once on USA soil, it would be more easy.

Ok, you guys in USA might have 20 guns per habitant, so what ? not the quarter of people that have a gun would actually take their gun and fight, and on that quarter the three quarter wouldnt not have a real chance of survival against trained soldiers. Beside one guy with 20 guns only use one gun at the time.

US army is used to fight in others country and most of their tactics wouldnt not work if they are invaded. Let's imagine there's an army in the Us. what are you doing ? Nuke them, bomb them to death, send gas ? Great, but you're also bombing your own population, and your own infrastructures...

But i guess you need a really large army to occupy a territory that big...

It could be invaded, but being successfully invaded is a different story.

If all the other countries combined, they could successfully invade us. But that's true of everyone.

Yes, the US could be invaded, but think of this all you crazy dictators who are thinking about this, because I know you are reading this thread:
We do not have some impenetrable defensive wall running around the country, nor anything physical that will keep you out of th country. (That lousy excuse of a border fence doesn't count)
What would you do then? 306 million people inhabit a country with over 3.6 MILLION square miles of land. Most of these people have guns, and I am not talking little pea shooters, I mean GUNS. Most of them know how to use them. Want to mess with us?

Also, we have several thousand ICBMs with your name on it.

So, I now ask you:
Are you feeling lucky punk? ARE YOU!?!?!

Who would want to invade the most powerful nation in the world? It's like committing suicide by invading the States! They would annihilate any invader in an instant. Anyways, the States is getting weaker economically because of exporting most of their manufacturing jobs. They are now just services and some hi-tech.

Easy to achieve, with proper time and planning.
Immigrate, through both legal and illegal means, slowly over time until you have about 10 million of living out their daily lives doing odd jobs for the US and then when they have most of their army overseas, attack from both the borders and from within using the unlimited cashes of ammo and weapons that the citizens have in their basements to resupply.
If only swine flu had not upset the invasion date...

I find it funny how little credit goes to our intelligence network. I guess if all of our network were to fall asleep for months to years, then sure, it'd be easy to do that....

So inspired by the can England be Invaded thread, I thought I'd do a similar one but replace the country in question with the US, if the rest of the world banded together without the aid of nuclear arms would they be able to successfully invade and hold the US?
The rest of the world doesn't have the distance to fight the U.S.

China's on the ball by creating Aircraft-killing mini-nukes, but that's the only real problem I see. "Sunburst"s, I think they call 'em.

...

I should probably read the thread before posting, but meh =p.

Just curious. Is it really worth invading the US? I know the US is wealthiest nation on Earth, but they are just too powerful to invade. It's like an elephant can be a large meal for predators, but since it's too powerful to successfully attack, it's not worth the trouble.

I don;t think it would be possible. Let's all keep in mind the technological superiority of the yanks, ok?

SuperSonic Stealth air to air fighters capable of vertical take-off.
Stealth bombers.

The M1A2.

Sad, but they win. Sorry rest of world. That's the way it is.
M1A2 Is outdated nowadays compared to the newer challenger models the challenger I was a better tank proven in battle tests .
Most of the techs the "yanks" have so do the rest of the NATO forces. Aside from the stunning F-22A Raptor. (last time I checked it was a US only plane.)
NATO has forces?

Supposedly. They ain't got shit if they are bombed to hell and back a few times.
You really going to bomb your own country? I doubt that. Practically all of the warfare that will go on will be urban warfare, complete with civvies n' all.

I think it would be easier than people think. With a large amount of the US military occupied in foreign wars, and the rest very spread out around such a large land mass, a large strike at any coast would mean it would instantly fall. If an attack was to come, it would probably be at the East side to cripple the American economy as hard as possible and to cut America off from any allies in the East. The south and mid-west would also be prime targets so as to destroy a large part of the US food supply. As for the size of America, I can't remember his name, but one American general some time around World War 2 drove with a military convoy from one side to the other, in five days so as to see how long it would take. That includes rest stops and such and lets not forget that modern machines are much faster and the road systems far superior, albeit ofcourse it would be no-where near five days due to fighting but America is not that large. The Nazis got half way through Russia in two months and that adds up to about the size of the US.

An invasion wouldn't work. We have a plan that states if our country we're to be invaded and on the verge of being captured, we would launch every single one of our nuclear warheads, thus ending the world and destroying everyone else.
