So why do you think that pirates, generally, aren't actually downloading the game? They clearly all want it, but the numbers of downloads have actually been really, really low. If this had (as it always does) happened for a movie, I doubt any pirate would have the slightest moral glitch.
My two cents is that pirates and gamers cross over too much, and are based in the same kind of identity. Usually this would mean the demand would be higher and all the pirates would go for their favourite media, but I think what we're seeing here is loyalty to gaming. There's a sense of "don't ruin this medium; I grew up with it" here. Maybe it's because when most of these pirates, who are probably in their 20s, did grow up with games, they were stigmatised for it, so now something that could arguably damage their medium is responded to by the best form of honour these people can invent - not exploiting something they could. Thoughts?
