Crysis 2 Dev Urges Fans Not to Pirate the Game

So why do you think that pirates, generally, aren't actually downloading the game? They clearly all want it, but the numbers of downloads have actually been really, really low. If this had (as it always does) happened for a movie, I doubt any pirate would have the slightest moral glitch.

My two cents is that pirates and gamers cross over too much, and are based in the same kind of identity. Usually this would mean the demand would be higher and all the pirates would go for their favourite media, but I think what we're seeing here is loyalty to gaming. There's a sense of "don't ruin this medium; I grew up with it" here. Maybe it's because when most of these pirates, who are probably in their 20s, did grow up with games, they were stigmatised for it, so now something that could arguably damage their medium is responded to by the best form of honour these people can invent - not exploiting something they could. Thoughts?

They should take the best out of it and use the problems discussed in warez boards for bugfixing. Lets look at it as an open beta phase.

A leak two month before release, so one of your very own employees put it on there, or left a suitcase with the cds on the bus, because no one else has the game yet. And you're blaming pirates?
Didn't you know? The pirates sailed on in on their electronic pirate ship to the crytek office with their magical hacking powers, and forced one of the Crytek employees, at cutlass-point, to upload an old, buggy build, just so they could go YAHARR! and have one over on the poor, victimised corporations again. The CCTV footage of it is quite impressive.

I was never going to pirate this game to begin with, I don't believe that I'm entitled to anything an everything I want for nothing because I want it. Some people fail to understand this, also someone who's willing to pirate a buggy beta version of a game obviously doesn't respect the medium to begin with. Crytek has nothing to worry about, because I'd gladly purchase their game.

I'll only pirate a game to demo it, if I think it's worth it I'll always buy it.
I do like the way they ask us, nothing like the Nitendo's hate speech from a few weeks ago.

I played the Beta a few months ago and it was really a lot of fun, that in combination with almost begging from the developers warrants them a few sales. I don't have much money (student) and I will make as much of an effort to get the game as possible and to show my support for a developer that has such great ambitions and won't damage gamers experience while trying to stop pirates.

I must admit though I am split between the two ideas that telling people to stop pirating the game. On the one hand it might discourage people to pirate it and will cause major gamers to discourage pirating it, on the other hand it is advertising the pirated copy to people who maybe unaware of the released version. I hope for Crytecks sake it is the former

I think it's because the download is something like 20GB...

Regardless I wasn't all that interested in the game until I'd seen actual gameplay footage of it [and not trailers] - now I'm going to pre-order it as soon as I can [on Steam], the game looks incredible.

wow....that's.... all sorts of wrong
1) people who want to buy the game , will buy the game , even if they find it for free (with no support , bad cracks , etc etc) i bought WoW BECAUSE i played it on buggy stupid private servers first. This piracy killing the X industry has to stop ....what you think people can't download F... LADY GAGA for free ? but they still buy that s**t RETAIL.
2) the leaked buggy BETA version will most likely make people WANT to buy the game even more (so they can experience the final thing bla bla)
3) they should GIVE for free ALPHA/BETA versions of ALL games , first of all to test/debug it by the community AND (very important) aren't people allowed to TRY OUT something before they purchase it ? they kind of stopped making demos (not on all platforms or not at all)
4)this is personal so i won't STRESS on it , but blindingly buying stuff cause of the NAME TAG feels like no respect for the medium to me ... (see mario galaxy universe 242423 or whatever number it is nowadays, CoD 15.6 (less content , MORE price....thx for that fanboys), FIFA 70 ....and the list goes on and on and on and on ........................

Getting free stuff is what makes people like companies and what makes people coming back , stop INSULTING us(your god damn customers) and blaming us for your poor profits , consume that HATRED with making better games !

It looks like their message has helped a bit... not that many people have downloaded the game it seems as most people are siding with the developers, but its still a pretty shitty situation.

Gonna buy it on my PS3 methinks!

I have my copy pre-ordered. No need to pirate it at all. It was only thirty eight euros any way. That's nothing.

Piracy isn't the threat. It's the DRM that forces people to piracy.

If you treat your costumers will they will always want to pay you.

I enjoyed the hell out of Crysis and Warhead. I'll support devs that make good games that I want to play.
