I think I am...
Or perhaps you aren't aware this guy had nothing to do with those games. And Farcry 3 wasn't even a crytek game.

I wouldn't say that Crysis has an amazing plot or story ether. It is just a flashy shooter that is average also many people were not able to even play Crysis because it would not run on most PCs but that is a story for another time. My main point is that no one bought halo for it's story it has a straight forward story line and thats all it was not horrible. Same goes for Crysis. Also Video games are a different experience to everyone who plays them. not everyone wants to play it the same way and thats fine. People should not look down gamers because they do not like to explore the entire game if they are allowed too.
My problem stems from something a friend said to me. I asked him about the story and where it is and he said if you want Halos story then you gotta read the book to understand everything.....WTF! Why would i read a book to understand story in a game. I shouldn't have to. Its like i heard about lost how in season 5 or whatever they are making reference to specific Points in season 1. I shouldn't have to go back and watch that episode it should be straight forward unless dealing with plot twists.
dude I am 100 percent with you gears of war has the same problem but I like those games for gameplay and that is why I buy them. but the guy who writes crysis should not complain since his game is on the level of story.

Only about eight times.

Probably because the interviewer was psychotically biased, and trying to lead him into a trollable quote. In the end he apparently had to settle for editing two comments together.

Oooh, you played Far Cry 3 already? O.O Honestly, Far Cry 2 was better than most PC games I've played in the last few years, regarding the writing.

No, but if you're writing a story for a sequel to a game with a diabolically bad story, for a company renown for having awful stories tacked on to their graphically beautiful sandboxes, it's best to show your improvements before bashing competitors.

I wish people would read past the first page...

EDIT: Also, FarCry 3? So, this guy is that bad they don't use him for other upcoming games? Cheers for the heads up.

Since you're in the future, mind sending me some 1TB SSDs?

Wow, this guy is really going to town on this whole story-bashing-thing, isn't he?

Not that I don't agree with him or anything, but is smack-talking your competitors like this really the norm? I mean, it's kind of childish, don't you think? (Personally, I would be happier if developers stuck to parody and sly references to make fun of eachother)

As an after-thought, I wonder if Richard Morgan has ever read any of the Halo novels...

Well, this guy has a lot to prove, seeing as the first Crysis has ARCHETYPICAL AND BORING AND JUST IN EVERY WAY TERRIBLE STORYLINE written on it in gigantic red letters.

I rarely play games (any genre) with no real story. They have to be really fun for me to play them, like Just Cause 2 and Borderlands. Those games are awesome. Halo on the other hand is a mediocre shooter at best. The game simply sucks and it's quite obvious that Microsoft is paying for those reviews to turn out good. I like Crysis story. It's nothing spectacular, but it's good for a shooter it wants to be it works. I like the characters, I wanna know what happens next. I wanna know what happened with Prophet. Same with Modern Warfare 2. Entertaining story and characters. Multiplayer is kinda meh, but campaign is freaking awesome, too short though. I didn't care about Halo 2 ending at all. When my Xbox 360 died I didn't care that I wont be able to play Halo 3. I still didn't play it and I don't intend to. I just don't care. If they make a Halo game with some aweosme gameplay to compensate for sucky story then I'll play it.

Wow, this guy needs to stop sucking ****, I'm sorry but it's true. Halo has an amazing storyline, and the books (Reach, First Strike, and Onyx) help add to that a lot. I haven't seen Crysis having Halo's success anyways, so he's got no room to talk. Sell more copies than Halo then make your crappy insults, thank you.

For those of you who doubt it, I bought Halo, Halo 2, and Halo 3 all for the storyline. I'm dead serious. While he points out that Halo's protagonist Master Chief doesn't show his face, that doesn't make him an stereotypical archetype, he's a poster boy for the series.

I've read Fall of Reach, The Flood, First Strike, Contact Harvest, Ghosts of Onyx and Cole Protocol. Don't sound familiar for those Halo fans? Those are the books for all you multiplayer onlyies fans. To me Halo was the rehashed story of military industrial complex, the complexity of soldiers lives with inevitable war, and the responsibilities and baggage that came alone with being a prize soldier for the army.
"Wait that's not in the game very much if not at all." I completely agree with those thinking that. Halo is a sci-fi war story, a lot of elements are common with other war-based medias. If I could go back in time, I'd record all the gameplay videos, cinematics, and bundle up all the books I bought and tell my self to save cash rather then buying the games.

In short, I could argue there is more story in the books then in the games, but I consider it a fact that the books told a better story then the game.

Note: Don't have live, never have, so I don't play Halo multiplayer live.

"bullshit archetypal characters"

He must hate the star wars movies then, those were all cliche archetypal characters.

lol. I love him.....this is exactly what i've been saying since Number 1. Let it be known i enjoy playing number 1 just not 2 or 3....Number one was good even though it had a lame story. Not Great or amazing Good....
The second half was, anything before Spark-whatever-that-number-was was pretty shitty.

OT, I hope there's actually some storyline in Crysis 2, otherwise all of this becomes pointless.

It occurs to me that if a game needs a series of books to tell a story, its storytelling must not have been very good.

That certainly calls the existance of the Mass Effect novels into question...

The guy should concentrate on making his current project as good as it can be, rather then bashing other games for their narrative. Personally i don't mind the halo story, as far as i know bungie's writers don't go around running off at the mouth about how Gears of War is full of cliche Meat-heads, and how Modern Warfare 2 was written by monkeys (however true that last one is, though i enjoyed the story mode for its crazy fantastical moments).
Also, Ive read his book 'Thirteen' (over here in the UK it was titled 'Black Man') and found it unimaginitive... so he has alot to prove before he has the right to rip on Halo, at least when something dies in halo it bloody stays dead...
