Popular =/= Cult Classic.

A cult classic is a film that has acquired a highly devoted but specific group of fans. Often, cult classics have failed to achieve fame outside of the small fanbases; however, there have been exceptions that have managed to gain fame among mainstream audiences. Many cult movies have gone on to transcend their original cult status and have become recognized as classics; others are of the "so bad it's good" variety and are destined to remain in obscurity. Cult films often become the source of a thriving, obsessive, and elaborate subculture of fandom, hence the analogy to cults. However, not every film with a rabid fanbase is necessarily a cult film. Usually, cult films have limited but very special, noted appeal. Cult films are often known to be eccentric and do not follow traditional standards of mainstream cinema and usually explore topics not considered in any way mainstream?yet there are examples that are relatively normal. They are often considered controversial because they step outside standard narrative and technical conventions known.

FF 7 is not a cult classic. It was/is very popular and therefore doesn't fit into that category.

I don't understand this line of reasoning. "Cult Classic" doesn't necessarily mean unpopular. It's more like popular mostly with a certain group of people (aka, a cult). Just like Boondock Saints was mostly popular with college-age kids, even though that included millions of people, it was still called a cult classic.

I HATED XIII. My uni lecturer was sooooo into this game and encouraged us all to play it. I didn't make it past the beach hut, I was that bored.

In regards FFX-2, in theory, it was a decent game. The dress-sphere grids were cool. I think people just had a really bad reaction against Yuna and her pining after Tidus.

Deus Ex. I'm not joking I couldn't get into it. I'll get flamed.

I'm not sure if this counts, but Deus Ex was boring, looked goddamn horrible, and had almost nothing going for it in my mind.

Don't worry, it's awful by today's standards. Most of the people on the internet who say how amazing it is, either haven't played it for about 8 years and don't realize it doesn't hold up as a good game anymore; or are looking back through rose tinted glasses and refusing to see how bad it is now. (note before people flame me that I didn't say all people, but I do believe for the most part that is the truth) I'm sure it was a great game at its time and I respect that, but that doesn't mean its just as good now when everything it did has been done 10 times better.

So yeah, I am going to go with Deus Ex as well.

I played it in 2008/2009 and was absolutely amazed, no game has ever achieved the same amount of freedom to engage an objective or such excellent level design.

Fallout 1&2 - incredibly tedious turn based combat plus the writing is nothing special. And oh god the beginning of both games is so incredibly tedious you'll be sick of them before you've even gotten anywhere.

You can say the combat is tedious to today's twitchy-esk FPS lunatics but how is the writing nothing special?!

How many people didn't read the first post? Cult classics. Not just classics.

For me it's Mirror's Edge and Beyond Good and Evil. Mirror's Edge is praised so much by the dedicated followers, I thought it was absolute garbage.

Beyond Good and Evil was decent, but didn't do too much for me. Liked the athmosphere and character design, gameplay and missions left me cold.

Loved it. I can understand how someone would find it terrible though.

I despise The Rocky Horror Picture Show, it just annoys me and half the followers are really annoying girls who want a gay best friend. The music on it is rubbish too

Baldur's Gate 2 wasn't really my cup of tea either.

There are plenty of others, but those two in particular are recent disappointments.
