Davy Jones Joins Total Recall Remake

Sure, the movie isn't going to take place on Mars, but now it's got Bill Nighy and Colin Farrell working together on screen.

The remake of <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Total-Recall-Arnold-Schwarzenegger/dp/B00070FX5U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1306458219&sr=8-1>Total Recall has been picking up steam over the past few months. Back in January, <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/106802-Treasure-Trove-of-Details-Revealed-for-Total-Recall-Remake>a lot of details were released about the film, including Colin Farrell as the replacement for Arnold Schwarzenegger. Now, though, it's been revealed that Bill Nighy, known to many as <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Shaun-Dead-Kate-Ashfield/dp/B0006A9FKA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1306456492&sr=8-1>Shaun's step-dad and <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Pirates-Caribbean-Trilogy-Seven-Disc-Blu-ray/dp/B004D8P230/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1306456536&sr=1-1>Davy Jones, will be joining the cast.

Nighy is reportedly finishing up negotiations to take on the roll of Quatto, the leader of the resistance that Farrell's character joins forces with. In the 1990 movie, the character was actually named Kuato and was played by Marshall Bell as a mutant conjoined to the torso of another man. Also, some new details of the plot have been revealed:

The movie ditches the Martian storyline from the original pic and instead involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai. Farrell plays Douglas Quaid, a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy - although he doesn't know for which side.

The remake is set to begin filming in June. Aside from Nighy and Farrell, the movie is set to star Bryan Cranston as the villain and Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel as the female lead characters (as well as Ethan Hawke in a cameo role).

I heard about this. I still don't know if this is a good idea. The first one is delightfully campy.

For fuck's sake, they honestly could have just tweaked a few plot points and called it something else! I doubt many people who watched the original, whether they loved or hated it, will watch the remake or be anticipating it. I know I won't.

And what's with this Euromerica business? They need to get their asses to mars.

Ok So I am probably the only one who thought this story was going to tell me that this guy...

...was going to be in a Totall Recall remake.

Also is Brian Cranston going to be Cohagen or Richter? Because it is a fools errand to play any character previously played by Michael Ironside.

Well, I'm still not really looking forward to this movie, but I'm a bit of a fan of the guy so I don't consider this to be bad news.

So far as I'm concerned, there are some lines from the original that are sacrosanct.

While I don't have problems with remakes per se if done right I really don't understand this one. Different story setting(anyone remembers the Star trek reference at the end?) that just happens to have the same name? I'm afraid is gonna be utter crap or why would they base their sales on a so classic name only.

Why Colin Farrell....

"The movie ditches the Martian storyline from the original pic and instead involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai. Farrell plays Douglas Quaid, a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy - although he doesn't know for which side."
Thats not a remake though....Thats a sequal...

This makes no sense to me.. If they wanted to do something along the lines, why not, as the previous poster suggested change a few more points and make it a rip off vs. a remake.
