I don't want bigger breasts. I want sexier characters period, that includes body, personality, movement style, and character interaction.
This is also something they need to understand.

The "sexiness" of a female character isn't purely determined by her boobs. I almost feel insulted by the game if the devs think that giant water-filled boobs that is all it takes to make a female seem sexy - the incredibly over-done physics which make them bounce up and down even when the character bats an eyelash is actually repulsive instead of attractive, it immediately makes me think "what the hell is her chest made out of, it can't be human tissue/muscle!". It could almost be classified under the uncanny valley.

I'm all for over-sexualization in video games, it has AMAZING potential to be some of the most delicious icing ever icing on the cake. But character development is just as important, if not more important in determining the "sexyness" of a female character.
Since DoA5 is mostly an arcade fighter (there goes character development) as long as the core gameplay aspects of DoA5 are strong, they can do whatever they want with the sexualization. Full steam ahead I say. Even oversexualize the male characters to appeal to the gay folk (and possibly female gamers?), I have nothing against it, honestly.

FYI to those constantly saying "boo "and "pathetic" and what-not, trust me when I say this - you very quickly get de-sensitized to the sexualization if you play the characters over and over again. Most fans playing at home (or in arcades) are NOT concentrating on the sexy females as much as they are concentrating on playing the actual game, i.e. NOT DYING and WINNING. Maybe for the first hour they'll giggle to themselves with the panty shots and jiggle physics, but after that it's all gameplay or bust.
In fighting game circles especially, nobody picks a character based exlusively on how sexy they are, they pick the character who they feel suits their playstyle and figting prowess.

In all honesty, the sexualization is more aimed at the non-fans because actual fans (i.e. dedicated players) of the game already know what they're in for.

I don't think the article in OP is telling the entire truth, it makes me doubtful. Why would true fans of the game ask for bigger boobs instead of more functional gameplay? It doesn't sound like something true fans would ask for, me being one of the fans.

Self-reflection time: assuming you weren't going to buy DoA 5 anyway, why would you possibly care how big the boobs in the game are?

Because it's fun to "criticize" stuff even if you will never perseonally encounter it (or plan to encounter it), it's the bread and butter of posting on these forums.
E.g. do think has been happening in the last 200+ feminism vs videogames threads?

I'll just say that the makers of the game should watch "Dreamworlds 3" by Sut Jhally and the Media Education Foundation. Here is a preview in the spoilers:

Of course, the film is about Music Videos, but the same basic theories can be applied to all visual media.
Just watched the video, but I can't see how it applies to this story/game. I've never played DoA5 (last one I played was 3), but I doubt there's the same male-domination thing going on that was shown in the video. The clips in the video showed behavioural dynamics between men and women, which were then emulated by street thugs. Again I haven't played DoA5, but in 2 and 3 there wasn't that dynamic (that I can recall). If people like what they see in DoA and want to emulate it in reality, what are they going to do? Give them a volleyball?

Lets be honest. Dead or Alive is known for its sexuality. Why take away what brought the series to relevancy?

Even as a guy who likes big boobs (what? Everyone has a preference. Geez...), I find these people's obsession with ginormous gozangas and jiggle physics quite strange.

An aside: Firefox didn't put a red line under the word "ginormous".
...Great job, internet!

I was kind of surprised at myself for being so let down when I flipped through the strat guide and noticed not only the fewer outfits they all have, but how little variety or thought seemed to be put into them. Some of them just had the same three outfits from older DoA games, and then a new one that made into two outfits each with colored differently. And that was it.

The sexy, perky, female fighter is DoA's thing. Why do should games nowadays have to appeal to everyone?

I know I'm in the minority here, but I find huge breasts a big turn off. I suppose that's partially why I've never played any of the Dead or Alive games.

I don't care per se, but it's amusing as hell.

Yeah, the preview is a preview. I would link to the whole documentary but I could not find it on YouTube because of Copyright claims. In any event, Dreamworlds talks a lot about what Mr. Jhally calls the "male pornographic imagination," and while there is nothing inherently wrong with this, its constant media repetition is reductive to females. That is, they are reduced to being portrayed as their bodies, or even by specific parts of their bodies. This being relevant to the idea of "bigger breasts." The incident at the parade in 2000, in not particularly relevant to this case, though, you are right.

DOA girls not well endowed enough for you? You want a fighting game where half the female characters have ridiculously oversized boobs you say? Soul Calibur 4 or 5 anyone?

I played doa 2 on my ps 2 some years back and loved the gameplay on it and then my friend got doa 3 on his xbox and we liked to play it alot. So what I am saying I don't care about those physics, I only care about gameplay and if it's as solid as it was before I might just buy it (after I'm done with Mortal Kombat).

Ah, yes. I knew it wouldn't take too long for Highschool of the Dead to show up here. While it was actually rather good (at least at times), the over-sexualisation or "unbelievably awe- I mean 'jiggle' animations", made it just too much to be taken seriously.

Pretty much beat me to the punch on this one.

I can't say that voluptuous character models bother me, per se; frankly, It'd put a smile on my face if this/games in general, when making a sexy/sexualized female character, put a little more junk in the trunk. What can I say? I'm a heterosexual male & I like women.

That said...
I genuinely hope that Yohei Shimbori is just missing the real reason why his last game bombed, & that he didn't actually get a hurricane of emails telling him that EVEN MORE UNREALISTIC TITS is what the fans of the series really want (you know, as opposed to a better game)

I'm not sure if this is another example of a developer of a franchise losing touch with the fans and community/what made the first game great/reality, or if I should lose even less faith in the fighting game community itself; because as much as it pains me to say this (I used to hustle Smash Bros tournaments), I can't say I'd be terribly surprised by either
I think I'm in the same boat as you guys are.

I like voluptuous characters as well but this is kinda starting to get out of hand. I swear those breasts wobble and defy the laws of nature in ways breasts shouldn't be able to do.

So the next Dead or Alive is going to be breasts fighting each other?
