Dead Space 2 "Hardcore Mode" is Hardcore

i remember the only hardcore mode i enjoyed was in Halo: Combat Evolved, where it would take you 2 full clips and 3 beat downs to kill an elite, or something like that, it really changed your play stile to try and hit the thing in the back or use grenades carefully

i didnt really enjoyed Fallout New Vegas Hardcore Mode, because i played with the "Wild Wasteland" and because of me needing to gulp down all the sarsaparrilla bottles i could find to get the special caps was a pain to do in the dessert, and you cant be carrying 20 30 bottles with you untill it is convenient to drink them because its a waste of weight

it was kind of frustrating that the trait was faulted for playing in hardcore.

I had a hard time playing the first Dead Space for any more than an hour or two without feeling like a cold hand was squeezing my lungs. Hardcore mode will prove interesting indeed.

I want this, for every game, forever, please.

I was a fan on the new vegas hardcore mode, but I simply don't think I could handle this. Have to see once I find out how long the game is.

Shame it has to be unlocked, as I think going into a game with the "hardcore mode" on the first time you play makes it a more memorable experience.
Yeah my thoughts exactly.

I love you even more dead space. But only question about hardcore mode. Lets say I save at the beginning of the game, and get to the third level with out dieing, but die say half way through. DO I start from my last save, or at the beginning of the level. Since I know there are no checkpoints throughout the level. At least let each level count as one.
I would believe that you will be sent back to the main menu after you die, forcing you to use your save. Forcing you to start back at the beginning of the level defeats the purpose of saying no to checkpoints, as what you just said is a checkpoint.
Yeah I know but I was still hoping for the best that maybe, just maybe, they would have a tiny checkpoint.

Well damn. When I played Death Space I always breathed a sign of relief when that save station came into my sights. It was kind of like a splash in a nice, warm bath before setting out into the zombie killing fields. Getting rid of those is brutal, and I'm not sure if I'd be up to the challenge, but I'm sure a lot of people are.

Also the first Dead Space was what, 11 hours long, maybe 12? 4 sittings of 3 hours each doesn't sound too bad if you really want to finish this on Hardcore.

Also can you save whenever you want, or are the save stations fixed throughout the game? Like maybe they take all the stations away and just leave 3.

The fuck, I'm forgetting about the release date again? It's almost January 25th already? I just got LittleBigPlanet 2, damnit, I'm strapped for cash here until my next payday and then it'll be between Killzone 3 and this.

Frikkin' release schedules...

Oh, and damn that's hardcore. I highly doubt I will ever try to attempt this unless I'm feeling masochistic. This is like the opposite of Demon's Souls I guess.

I don't know about you guys, but I'd much prefer a "hardcore" mode in a game to challenge my mind, my reflexes or my "skills" than my threshold for boredom/frustration.

Oh, and someone else already touched on an important sidenote: What if you usually save often to prevent losing progress caused by a system crash? I know it's not the largest problem for consoles but people who buy this for PC lose a shitload of progress if their system decides it's time for an error.

It is one thing to have a perma-death setting in a game, but restricting the game to 3 saves in total seems absurd. I can't see this doing anything but irritating players unless the game is short and then people will just be more irriatated by that instead.

I suspect that you guys just aren't hardcore enough.

Also, to clarify: You have three saves in total for the entire game. Not sure how it handles save-and-quit situations, I would assume that EA would have enough on the ball to allow for that without messing with your three saves but it's not 100 percent clear yet.

Well this has certainly piqued my interest. It's nice to see a game try to do something different when it comes to hardcore modes, and this might get me to play it. Yeah, it will probably make me swear so much a kitten will fling itself off a cliff, but it might be fun. Bring it on I say!

Two words: Save scumming.

Furthermore: Why is there an ascended player challenge in here? I could understand death = save eaten and only one save slot- that would be a challenge. It feels as if it were something quickly thought up and then added. Hardcore mode is supposed to be a real challanege, like vegas's food sleep and thirst. Not a 'only three saves lol' thing.

This challenge smells of last minute addition. I bet it has a major bug or something that allows you to save scum real easy.

They really just should have made it a one save slot deal where you can save as many times as you want. If you die though, the save gets wiped. They would make you fear death, that would be hardcore. As it is now, it's just "annoying waste your time" mode.
