"I bet it is just that they can't fix their communications systems. The guy that I am replacing, Roberts, is completely unable to fix even a toaster oven."

Why they haven't fired him yet, is a wonder. Seems they can't keep the place running without me.

"Understandable, have you noticed the number of Engineers on this shuttle? they must be lacking in Engineering personel to fix as well as maintain the Station, perhaps is a busted antenna array they haven't gotten to fix yet? its always last on our "To do" Lists, try boosting our signal"

"On a short range like this any signal should be easy to read. My scans show no physical damage of the communication dishes on the hull, so it's most likely an electronics failure within the communication system. They do not appear to have acknowledged us at all, since no docking port has been opened." Although his voice didn't let it show, Vergil was getting nervous. This thinking outside of his programming was both unusual and tiring.

"There.. Might be another way, however." Vergil slowly stated.

Allister had kept quiet through the entire discussion, mainly due to the fact he knew no useful information to get on to the Space Station. However, the VI's statement was interesting. Due to his training, he could sense the moods and emotions of Anything, and he knew the VI was nervous. Which means that they were either in an scenario the VI can't handle, or they were all epicly screwed.

Either way, Allister decided to pretend he didn't notice the slight stammer in the VI's voice and indulged it, "Really!? What do you suggest then....um, VI?"

Marcus listened to the VI and his crewmates discussing the problem.
"Verg, have THEY sent any messages? Maybe there's a distress signal out, or something. Can you read there transmissions from here by any chance?" He asked.
"Also" He started, preparing for the worst "There any firearms stored on this ship? Y'know, just incase. As security, I think I should..." Marcus trailed off, thinking the VI would get his point.

Vergil was slowly coming back to his old self, his core temperatures even being within acceptable spectrum for the time being. The feeling of contempt for some of the less intelligent humans had started to return.

"Please, don't be silly Mr. Warren" He said, his voice yet again sounding smug and cheerful, with just a hint of disrespect. "This ship is unarmed. Besides, what would you expect to be shooting at, if I may ask?"

Marcus shrugged.
"Well, I have no idea." Secretly, he hoped there would be predatory aliens hoarding the mining facility, but thought against mentioning that to keep a mostly serious attitude.
"Maybe there's been a strike? Workers rebelling, deliberatly not answering us in a little "Piss off" message. I can't think of what else it might be, I highly doubt it's some kind of pirates or separate millitant group. Are we still going in to land?"
He queried, looking directly at one of Vergil's cameras, surprising himself at how he was treating this VI like he would a real person.
"The mining facility of course isn't equipped with anything more than security arms, no anti-orbital guns or anything, right?" Marcus said, trying to divert his own mind from the thought of aliens being down on the facility. He was now rather worried at the thought of not knowing what was ignoring them down on the facility. Though originally preoccupied with the thought of getting to be the stereotypical 'action-hero' and shooting all the aliens away, defending the ship and it's crew, he began to become genuinely scared at the thought of unknown life being down there. He had now convinced himself fully that there was something not-human occupying the mining facility.

"We are going to dock, Mr. Varren, our only alternative would be to float until we run out of food and you die of starvation."
Vergil was now back on full capacity, "Luckily, I just found us a way to avoid the rather unpleasant alternative two."

Vergil continued, now with a hint of pride in the electronic voice. "Before an AI was installed on the station, everything was managed with a more basic system. In practice that system still very much works. The communication dishes appears to be intact, and with the right override codes I could initiate an emergency docking sequence."

He made a pause for dramatic effect. "Thankfully, I was equipped with a sufficient code-database."

Naturally Vergil had tried the method the moment he thought of it, and once it had proven to work he decided to create some drama with the shuttle crew. In fact, the shuttle was already in the procedure of docking. As he finished his monologue, they could hear a metallic clank as they docked and experienced weightlessness for a split second, before the station's gravity field took over from the shuttle's.

"Thank you for flying Indigo space travels, we're looking forward to shipping you guys back, when the time comes." Vergil said, in a rare moment of joviality, but not without a sarcastic tone to his voice.

"Why would they be on strike in the middle of nowhere? That would be suicide for them. There would be a greater chance of that aliens killed everyone on board, than a strike." Stephen joked. "It is more likely that someone is just asleep on the job."

Marcus was nearly sick from the sudden gravity change. He wobbled about, before grabbing a water bottle, opening it and drinking quickly.
"Ugh..." He sighed, before returning to talk to Vergil. "Thanks for the flight, Verg, I guess. You won't be coming with us? You can't download yourself onto anything or something?" Surprising himself, Marcus felt he would miss Vergil's sarcastic yet informative personality.
He grabbed his bag from his locker, made sure he wasn't missing any belongings, then took two bottles of the spaceship water along with him. He felt oddly thirsty after the hours of cryo sleep, and had forgotten to take a drink in the breif time before docking. He looked for the others.
"Coming? Would be a help, I don't know where to go, or who we have to report to once we get off.." Marcus said, embaressed. Though he was just security, he felt he should know everything, and be more responsible.
'You're just here to protect, man, so protect. You're security, not an AI.' He thought.

Leaning against the wall, Nathan sighed as he shifted uncomfortably back and forth from foot to foot

"So...how are we going to handle this?"

He asked

Allister was cautious about the situation. They had to be careful here, someone has to stay here and keep guard of the ship, as well as the Communications with us.

Allister spoke up "I suggest that we divide our manpower, someone stays on the ship, while the rest check on the Station. I personally think that I, Marcus, and Nathan go in there while the rest of you wait here. What do you think?"

Samuel raised a hand cautiously and, for the first time, spoke to one of his fellow spacefarers. "...If I may? It seems that, in case there is someth... someone unpleasant on the ship that's caused the incapacitation of the crew, then the people venturing out into this ship are more likely to sustain injury than those of us staying here, so wouldn't it make sense that an actual doctor-" he glared at Alister for a moment- "Went with the marauding party rather than remaining here?"

"I'm all up for that. I really don't think something's right here." Marcus said, looking serious but optimistic.
"We four can go out and check up on the place." He liked the idea, wishing he'd thought of it first, and as security he felt it his duty to of course scout to see if anything was amiss.
Marcus dropped most of his baggage; stuff he'd need for a residence there. He would hardly need his bedsheets and toiletries on a little scouting party.
He readied his security device, selecting the camera option to record the investigation.
"Vergil, can you pick up my phone's signal? I'll transmit what I record to you on the ship, and you can show it to the others perhaps?" He asked.

Allister smiled ruefully, "Yes, you have a point doctor. I'm sorry if i insulted you, it was not my intention to do so."

Allister organized his mental notes on Samuel. Fear of the Dark, Limited Social Skills, Fear of losing his sight, Impressive aim in use of knives.

"Very well then, if that will be all, off we go!" Samuel declared, walking off into the bowels of the ship. He made it about five steps before common sense kicked in and he subtly trailed back so that one of the more combat-suitable members of the troop could lead.

"Is there anything on this ship we could use to arm ourselves before crossing over?"

Nathan asked, looking from person to person

"If there is trouble on the station, I think going in armed would be better than going in unarmed"

"We have no reason to believe anything is wrong with the station, except its communication's equipment. Also, this vessel contains no armaments whatsoever, except for Mr. Warren's stunning device."

[HEADING=2]-Chapter 1- Pathways into darkness[/HEADING]
'No reason to get excited,
the thief he kindly spoke,
there aren't many here among us,
who feel that life is but a joke,
but you and I, we've been through that,
and this is not our fate,
so let us stop talking falsely now,
the hour is getting late.'
-All along the watchtower, Bob Dylan

The doors to the shuttle opened, and the crew could hear a weak hissing sound of stabilizing air pressure. The corridor outside was fully lit, but one of the lights hanging from the roof was flickering in a slightly ominous fashion. Except for this, there was nothing to be seen except the long gray hallway, ending abruptly with a sealed door. Everything was quiet.

Even though the situation largely confused Vergil, he couldn't help but think they had made it through their worst possible problems already. But someone had to notice a ship docking! Why weren't there anyone there to greet them? At the same time, Vergil had started to feel something else, perhaps it was some robotic counterpart to intuition, but he had started to feel that more than just a few things weren't right around the station.

"Someone should have been here to greet us by now, you would think." Vergil said out loud, with an irritated voice to maintain his already established image. "But I suggest you guys head off and find the administrator as soon as possible."

Vergil didn't know why, but suddenly he felt a pressing demand to leave the station. He wanted to head home.

"It is quite quiet, don't you think? Wilson has always been playing classic rock through out the intercoms. He is suppose to be stationed here for the next few months."

Stephen then got up and walked over to the locker and got out his duffel bag and another piece of gun. "Which floor is his office again?"
