Wait they set a really hard challenge then go "lol no" for a while in disbelief when someone beats it? Do they even know their playerbase? Someone somewhere will have aced it in week one, probably without losing any health I can assure you.

Wonder if the first thing Blizzard did was check whether he was cheating? Diablo 3 seems to be a bit of a disaster for Blizzard since the word go... Now for Activision to announce Diablo 4 through 7 within 6 months of each other and kill the entire franchise through Complete. Global. Oversaturation!

[sub]Sorry still slightly bitter about Guitar Hero XP[/sub]
They thought it would be months until someone defeats inferno even in softcore, they arent to good with predicting those kind of things.

With the latency issues the game still has sometimes it kinda makes him beating this already even more impressive.

You're truly a man of wisdom, sir.

Might be because I'm the least competetive person in the world, but what do these people expect, a pat on the back for being able to play video games really well?

Gaming is something I do in my spare time for my very own enjoyment, and I couldn't care less if I was the first, the last, or anywhere in between person to finish a game. Even if I was more interested in defeating the challenge the game poses (which I barely am, for me it's usually more about story, flow, graphics, voice acting and the like - I like my games at a difficulty level where I die or fail not more than once or twice at the really tough parts), I wouldn't be very interested to compare my own "achievements" with people I don't know.

That said, IF I was more interested in beating the game on any but the lowest available difficulty, and if I indeed succeeded, I wouldn't see the point in putting it on youtube and brag to you guys out there about it.

Then again, If everyone was as much of a grouch as I am, there wouldn't be as much stuff on youtube, right?
The guy(s) worked really hard to accomplish something and succeeded. That's something commendable.
Hum, I guess so. I suppose since there are in fact people who do enjoy reading about this and feel it deserves applause, then why not. I just can't seem wrap my head around this.

This particular accomplishment I have no real interest in, but I do enjoy speed runs through games. especially the older ones like Quake...doing something no one has ever done before is a terrific feeling. Be it landing on the moon or beating Diablo 3 on Ridiculously Hard.

The virginity is strong in these ones ...
I really do love these statements, someone is better at a game than me they must be a virgin.

Someone has an amazing cosplay must be a virgin

I love the fact that most of this shit comes from 9gag and the whole "virgin" thing is one of its few bits of original content that wasn't stolen else where and it's just lame.

I am competitive county rugby player and played various TF2 clan events, and what this guy has done is pretty damn impressive hats off to him.

"Hardcore" is the permadeath mode; if you die, no matter where or when it happens - a minute from the start, a minute from the end or anywhere in between - you lose your character and all his possessions forever.
Permadeath mode was originally called "Steel man" way of playing and altrough not limited in game it usually is follow by players (single save, no death). i always play in the steel man mode, i find it silly that you can die and just go back for more. if you die you load it from a savegame and thats that. Altrough this seems to take it a bit further by no ability to load from last save game.
as for the "Achievement" well, i couldnt care less.

I'm sorry it seems like you've dropped your tinfoil hat.
Ha! I never drop it, it's glued in place.
Pathetic attempt to trick me there.

More seriously, I know it's stat gathering and that it has it's uses, but I am also aware of Activision-Blizzard's behaviour at a corporate level and the fact that they frequently use this data gathering against people they feel are using the game improperly.

Which is the root of my problem really, it's a game, it's supposed to be about play. If I'm playing a single player game I should be able to do just that, play. I want to take it apart and make my own modifiers, dick around with God mode and see what happens when I start clipping through enemies or moving spawn points around. Blizzard will ban you for doing any of those, to the single player (#EDIT: Incidentally, so will EA and Ubisoft, but Valve don't).

During multiplayer, fine, enforce away, but when I'm just playing there should be no system stood behind me making sure I play 'right' as defined by a stat tracker (or else). It's boiling games down to little more than a series of tightly controlled instructions and purchases, I don't like it, it's no fun.

I say give props where they are due. This is a legit highpoint for this player and I say cudos. As for all the hate, go troll youtube or something. Yes this doesn't rate with curing cancer or winning the super bowl, but for the player who sets personal challenges it is a step to bigger and better things. Maybe this win will give the courage and fortitude to go out in to the world and make a difference. Maybe it will only incourage a shut-in mentality leading to a life like the Comic-book Guy from the Simpsons. Who are we to judge this? Just some food for thought.

Once again Congo Rats man! Good work on your win!

I think that they did something pretty cool. While it's not something I would find interest in doing for them it was something they liked doing and I think they deserve a pat on the back for getting through it.

I wonder if that was DDoS or if there was another reason for those download spikes.

Any idea why anyone would want to DDoS him?

Jealousy? He apparently has a bit of a pedigree for being the first to do a lot of things.

Ugh. I know people can be horrible little creatures, but I'm still surprised anyone is that pathetic. Dedicating a portion of your life to try and interfere with someone else having fun and achieving something that means a lot to them? Please let there be another explanation for his spikes. I don't think my spirit can take it today, lol.

Was there a prize or something involved? This gets the same response as the people who like to post "First!!!" in response to any post, or people who brag about reaching level eleventy-five or whatever the current cap is in WoW first...

I'm not certain which aspect irks me more, the folks who do this because they think it's something worthwhile, or the people who line up to say "congrats!!!" immediately afterwards.
Maybe you should just stopped being irked by these trivial things, and realize gaming in general is pointless.
If that is your mindset... why are you here?

OT: Good for him. I certainly couldn't do it, and the people who are bashing him for it are probably unable to do it and are jealous of him being able to do it.

Okay so what i'm getting from my fellow Escapists is that the guy who done it cheated. Where does it say that he cheated?
*He "demonstrated" item duplication.
*He paused the game upon death, switched computers and logged in again to avoid the consequence.

That is all the cheating that I know of. Things that go against the spirit of the game however:

*He made use of bots to farm D2, then used the profits from that to buy the best gear in D3.
*He power leveled by exploiting the Kuell boss glitch.
*He farmed safe areas over and over for loot without engaging enemies (Pots, R-chests, T-goblins).

Overall he only managed to play a fucked up version of SC by removing the penalty of player death from the game. He's not alone in that regards however. It seems most people who play the game do the same. I've even seen people selling game progression for gods sake.

So congrats to this guy, I guess. Of all the cheaters and exploiters in the game he stands tall.

I dunno, the first guy to beat "I Wanna Be The Guy" on Nightmare mode got lots of congratulations... and calls to be locked in a straightjacket. It really IS an achievement in some cases.

Observer: "You beat it on NIGHTMARE? ... You're insane."

Player: "I know."
Well yeah, that I can understand, playing I Wanna Be The Guy, is like purposefully opting to be water boarded for a year straight. Diablo 3? eh. I personally find other things more impressive than just "Beating the game on really hard mode" like for example that guy on BF3 who gets killstreaks by BOPPING PEOPLE ON THE HEAD WITH A PLANE. THAT takes skill, beating a game on really hard mode, just takes patience.

Pretty much this. He must be proud of himself, or something. That's like boasting about your KDR in a shooter, when you're using downloaded skills.

Hardcore means that when you die you can't play your character any more. It's stats and such will be saved for you to look at later but for all other intents and purposes your character is basically deleted upon death.

A patient player without skill would just end up doing the first part of the game over and over and over and over again with new characters.

This guy beat the game without dying once, on a difficulty where apparently mobs can one-shot you if you're not careful.

OT: Congratulations to the guy, quite a feat. Not something I'd ever do myself, but then again I don't need to run marathons to congratulate the winner.
