Diablo III Character classes: What do you think?

The barbarian seems fundamentally similar to the one from D 2, certainly the basic concept of the character is the same. Also, they've already shown that it shares some powers with it's D 2 predecessor.

The wizard class looks cool, but shouldn't it be "witch" since she's a chick?
Each class comes in both genders now. And there's nothing wrong with being a female wizard. The term is usually associated only with men, but there's no reason a woman can't be a wizard. Oh, and a witch is different from a wizard in more ways than gender anyway.

It looks absolutely awesome. It really does look like Diablo 2, but better in every way (especially graphically. It looks gorgeous).

I really loved the monsters climbing up the building to get to you, that's new.

I was really impressed by the Wizard's time bubble. I'll be using that one a lot, I can already tell.

Ah, gotcha. I tell ya, I love that zombie wall.
To paraphrase Yahtzee: It doesn't matter who you are, the moment you're compared to a magical hand that shoots bees, you're going to fucking lose.
The zombie wall is the same kettle of fish. The game has a zombie wall. It is above reproach.

Wizard class looks really spectacular, like the Sorcerer in Diablo2 but with less care of what society thinks and one that disregards rules like flys. I believe that I also saw an avatar for a Rouge class like in D2 and something else but couldn't grab a clear picture of what it was. Make us proud Blizzard!

I would LOVE to see the possibility of playing something FAR less heroic! Yeah sure laugh but if you want dark atmosphere and to introduce really new stuff then try the other side of the tracks! An evil monster bound by powerful magic to serve the cause of good against it's own evil nature would be something cool and unique to play with.

Also to have really unique abilities for each character class would be sensational!
Imagine if the only character that can cast town portal is the sorceress, the only one that can manufacture new potions is an Alchemist class, a smith was able to forge new weapons or repair existing ones, a Druid could identify magic weapons, a ranger was able to disarm trapped chests whilst a Priest could prevent the dead from ressurecting! This would obviously make D3 into practically a mandatory multiplayer game in order to get anywhere with it but the specialisation would make for a FAR more unique playing experience.

Alternatively how about a really novel concept? NO CHARACTER CLASSES!

Develop your character from one of several templates, spellcaster warrior or ranger, but then the choices you make as to stats and skills determines what further abilities open up to you as you progress.
Starting with a spellcaster template but putting points into strength and life would eventually produce a character with the ability to cast close range combat-based spells which assist with physical attacks.
Start with a ranger template but invest heavily in energy and dexterity to create a character with long-range nature-based spells and abilities.

In this way dozens of different character builds can be made that can cross over the usual class borders to create hybrids that despite not looking good on paper might produce some unexpected combos that work really well. It would certainly improve the replayability factor limitlessly and make it practically impossible to recreate another identical character.

Because Diablo is supposed to be dark, gothic, evil, scary. This one has statues with smiley faces, and rainbows (which by the way are not a prank by the graphic artists like Mr. Pardo says).

Also, the game was fine as is, and the only way to make it better was the way Hellgate was going, the immersive 3ps/fps-rpg. Sadly it crashed, so we'll never really see it at full potential. No mechanics should have been changed.

Next, there's subscription. No way. Diablo was meant to be played free online. Stupid money-mongering bastards. There's no love for the game anymore, it's just money now. I would rather go broke by making a game that's played online for all eternity than make billions by screwing people up.

Finally, why the HELL did you fire Bill Roper and the Shaefers?? They MADE this game FFS.
First point: Totally agree.
3rd point: Subscription?? Really blizzard? Really? I'm surprised I had not heard of the subscription until now. For shame. I guess its just starcraft 2 for me then.

I kinda figured I'd get that reaction from you, I saw your post on the death mechanic thread.
But it's my right since Diablo is all my childhood. You ruin one of the best games in my life, I'd hate you too.
How did they ruin it? If you don't like Diablo III, don't buy it, and don't play it, no reason to start hating Blizzard for, you know, making games.

You mean you explained that blizzard employee that has a gun pointed to your head that will force you to buy Diablo III against your will? Because I kinda missed that.

I don't think I'll be getting D3. It seems that they're taking all the elements I disliked about D2 and amplifying them. I preferred it when the character classes' only real effect on you was appearance and initial stats.
