This does not prevent people from stealing CC's and using them to buy physical copies. How come Amazon doesn't have this problem?

I have not purchased this game for the reason that Eri [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.379524-Diablo-III-Patch-Restricts-Access-for-New-Players#14880090] has already pointed out. There are a multitude of shady issues I keep seeing out of Blizzard with Diablo 3 (and this coming from a guy who routinely defends EA and has the title "Corporate Shill") and I don't want to show support to a company that feels like these issues are OK for the consumer to deal with.

With that explanation out of the way, I'm curious:
How much does this actually inconvenience new players? About how long does it take for a person to hit the level cap and end Act I?

It's easier to be caught if you commit fraud against a store. You have to ship a physical copy somewhere, so you can try to catch the person that way. Plus stores try to check that the shipping address matches the address on the credit card.

With digital fraud, the most the companies can do is try to ban accounts once the fraud gets reported.

God dammit blizzard. I've tried. I've tried so hard to be supportive of your always online bullshit, the incredibly lackluster loot system, the server problems, but seriously... Blizzard: FUCK RIGHT OFF.

It takes less than 72 hours to beat the fucking game multiple times, WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING?! You are punishing paying customers under the guise of fighting cheats and pirates. You know what? I'd rather put up with the ridiculous hacked item bullshit that was happening in D2 than watch a game company from which I've always seen great things deliberately smashing it's face into a trough full of stupidity over and over and over again.

This ridiculous foray into game property for real money has clearly managed to drive the people in charge of decision making utterly insane. Because you tried this abomination, all your efforts have ceased to go into making the game an enjoyable experience and have gone entirely into protecting the sanctity of that system.

This is not what games are for. We play games to have fun. So stop trying to turn us into money mules, and TEAR DOWN THE REAL MONEY AUCTION HOUSE. Then get back to doing your jobs which has always been to provide a high quality and fun experience to your customers. It's made you millions of dollars before, so stop trying to milk us out of our last 5 cents.

Does this include single player? Because if so, where the fuck is all the rage?

Edit: actually, with or without affecting single, what the fuck. If I buy the game to play with friends I have to wait THREE DAYS?

Here's your TV. I know you just spent a snuggly bunch of money on it, but unfortunately, you will have to wait a week before you get more than VHS support. To stop all the cocaine dealers you see.

How the fuck is this going to solve any problems?

Is this meant to be some kind of test of strength? Like, Blizzard will give everyone free chocolate and handjobs at the end of all this, as a reward for putting up with it?

Or is this some kind of moral lesson about the dangers of DRM? Is Blizzard trying to the catalyst of the anti-DRM revolution?

This game just gets more and more attractive every day doesn't it? I cannot for the life of me figure out why I haven't bought it yet.

For all the whining, people still gave Blizzard their money, and they voted with their wallets. You know what those votes said?

I'LL SIT HERE AND TAKE IT LIKE A MAN.

Over 7 million copies sold.

Yeah, you sure showed them.
Bitching is the only way to keep other companies from jumping onto the retarded bus.

Of course this would include singleplayer. There is no distinction between multiplayer and singleplayer play in it. Blizzard has launched excuse upon excuse as to why gamers should eat this bullshit and be happy.

And they did. And it seems as if they mostly are.

I didn't buy this game because of both its always-online scheme and its elevated pricepoint. Every article i've read about the game since its release reinforces my belief that this decision was correct, and I refuse to buy it until either the price drops to at least half, or they create a version of the game that can be played offline.

I've lived to see Blizzard grow from a speck on the gaming horizon to the huge & filthy rich corporation it is now. They've always seemed like one of the true bastions of quality game development, and releasing only PC-exclusive titles no less! Along with Valve, Blizzard has been one of the few giants on the side of PC gamers, a developer we could hold up with pride as a shining example of successful business selling games for the PC. It has been something to shove in the faces of all the publishers saying that piracy makes the PC a dead platform, unworthy of their time.

With World of Warcraft, they lost a bit of that credibility, what with becoming stupidly rich because of it and all of a sudden being merged with the dubious Activision.
But they were still "good" guys! Mostly.

Now, Diablo 3.
Somehow I feel betrayed, even though I didn't buy it. It's like they're systematically dismantling all the customer loyalty and goodwill they've built over the years, and for what?
I just don't get it.

There is no single player. You can just play multiplayer alone.

I'm confused now. I thought the DRM was suppose to stop the pirates/hackers?
This is not about pirates/hackers. This is about Credit card fraud / identity theft. A somewhat different thing.

You know...I find it funny that people rip on the company for trying to protect their business. This isn't about in game, digital items. This is credit card fraud. It's something that can effect MULTIPLE people in a ripple effect.
It would be like if I decided to lock my door at night because I got robbed and all my friends suddenly bitching and complaining that they can't get let in, until I let them in, but alas thus is trend now, blame the company and not those that are purposefully hurting the company.

It seems like every time Blizzard wants to add a security measure, their customers pay/suffer for it. Where there no other options?

The point is obvious, you can ***** all you want but if you buy the game, they have no reason to listen to you.

This isn't a subscription MMO where if you ignore player wishes you might lose profit, there's nothing to lose once they buy it.

if you bought the game and it screwed with you beyond what the DRM was suposed to then they damn well should listen to you

true, and people did buy it....and alot of peopel voiced the fact that they disagreed with such practices..weather or not it made a difference might reflect in the chance of other games taking up simialr DRM measures
