I'm pretty sure the sequel will be called District 10. After all, that is where they moved all of the prawns in the original movie.

Still, can't wait! That was definitely my favorite movie of 2009.

I am carefully optimistic about this. I actually saw District 9 for the first time today and loved it to bits. I am unsure how a sequel would work out though...I hope it wont be in the same street as Speed 2...

District 9 is one of the few films I've been okay with unresolved story-threads. I dont feel like I need a sequel, but if I can be given another good experience like that I wont say no thank you.

Man, there are so many ways this could go! I don't think they'll stick so much with the apartheid theme in the second one, and focus more on the Prawn integration with humanity.

My personal theory is this. Christopher Johnson was one of the Prawn's leader caste. That's why he was able to manipulate their technology efficiently, and was far more intelligent than the other Prawns.

Wikus now being a Prawn, with evidence of higher intelligence, like Christopher, is trying to lead a resistance effort against the guards at District 10. As part of the leadership caste, Wikus is able to rally a group of Prawn rebels who escape District 10, and set up a refugee base in the wilderness of South Africa. From there, they wage a guerrilla war against MNU, holding out until Christopher returns to rescue his people, and return Wikus to his original form.

Themes could involve revolution, integration, and interspecies relationships, the last one regarding Wikus and his estranged wife.

But then, thats just my theory

District 9 is an excellent film. I hope they stay with the concept they had in the first film but also expand upon it. District 9 is one of those great films that only come around once in a while.

Like many others I loved "District 9" I was looking forward to it before it came out, but the thought of a second one does not sound like a good idea to me if they truly can make sequel or prequel from "District 9" that is just as good as the first then I will welcome it, but I hope they do not ruin it.

This is not good. District 9 was a great movie, and now they're going to vomit all over it. Hopefully they realize what made the first one so good and will try to keep it the same, not go generic action movie on us. If they can make a good series out of this, then we might have something big, but for right now I'm skeptical.

District 9 was a masterpiece of film, I'm worried that a sequel would dilute the experience

but if it can give the same calibre then I'm all for a fantastic sequel to a fantastic film

Keep the concept and the world they created in the first movie, but don't touch the story of the first one. It's not a story about Wikkus or Christopher Johnston, it's about the effects of aliens arriving on Earth and the social-racial comparisons that you can make. Keep that, but lose the original characters.

I loved the original movie. By showing us how humanity treats the aliens, we learn about ourselves and the lowest levels we can sink to. Also, the movie successfully portrayed aliens that were very much like humans, but different looking (and with a crippling addiction to cat food), and how in the end we were not so different.

I loved District 9 for the sheer intelligence behind the script, although the apartheid theme was hardly subtle. Overall it was for me one of the best films in years, which makes me cringe at the idea of an inferior sequel, which unfortunately has been the case with almost every sequel or remake of a film I have loved. However, fingers crossed (again)

Glad he doesn't want to go the way of awesome, emotionally driven film does well then decides to take steroids and beef up the action.

I just hope we get some closier for Wilkus.

I'm not following. We are very, VERY different from the Prawns. As far as we can tell, the entire concept of free will is new to them. They just do what they are told by people they believe to be in charge.

You didn't love Star Wars? And you feel OK posting on a forum populated by nerds?

I'm kinda hoping the sequel does involve an invasion, but only because then you get to have the inevitable shots of people going "What did we do to deserve this!?" Double points if you show them abusing aliens earlier on.

I'm sure it'll rock. I'm also sure it's going to be called District 10.
