Do Gays Not Exist in Bioware's Star Wars?

As it has been mentioned several times already, I believe this is a matter of the term 'homosexual' just not having any meaning in the Star Wars universe. With thousands of species and genders for said species, one would think the lines will be blurred or pretty much disposed of when it comes to sexual preference.

I think it's logical to assume it exists, it's just not a big deal.

Hm, the words might not exist in star wars because there is no prejudice about such trivial things?
OR maybe the words 'gay' and 'homosexual' don't exist in the Star Wars universe! A-ha-ha! Like how 'children' are 'younglings'.

Maybe being 'gay' in SW is being 'friends with Kit Fisto'.

I didn't think there would be this many homophobes on this site.
There's been a few threads popping up here and there lately about homosexuality and it really is amazing how many people are downright spiteful of gay people. The other amazing thing is, not one person has yet to have a single good reason for it. Not one. Usually you just hear, "I don't like the way they shove it in my face", which of course is stupid because only a small fraction of homosexuals would do that, and the same can be said about heterosexuals.

I don't know. I think most of these people are still adolescents, and are just regurgitating their parents mantras.
I always regarded the Escapist as a sort of haven, safe from all the idiocy of the Internet. Guess I was wrong.

I'm not gay, but if there's one thing I hate more than anything it's stereotypes, and the whole "uber camp gay in your face" has been tossed around a lot in this thread.
That alone makes me mad as hell, and don't even get me started on the "I'm not racist/homophobic but (insert generic racist/homophobic comment)" people.

I love star wars more than ever now! No gays!

Good for Bioware for sticking to their guns...unlike Microsoft....who apologized to them.

Right on, couldn't have said it better.

First of all, its an MMO, so really how much factor is some random NPCs sexual preference going to have on it?

And second, this seems alot more like some retarded forum Mod that Bioware or Lucasarts in general.

And there are gay relationships in starwars already, so the whole "there are no gays" doesn't hold water.

Also, LOL at all the hatred in this thread.

Yes, you are homophobic. You just stated that you (weren't homophobic) did not believe in homosexuality in games. That means you are homophobic. Get. The Fuck. Out. And then try growing up, kay? :)
If you don't like dogs then you're not automatically a canophobe.

If you don't like gays it doesn't mean you're homophobic.

Stop butchering the definitions for words and grow up yourself and learn that not everyone believes the same thing and let people have their own opinions without attacking them for it.

A phobia of any kind means that you're afraid.

Not liking something does not equal being afraid of it. I don't like certain types of ice cream but that doesn't mean that I cringe in fear behind my shopping cart when I go grocery shopping thinking that the tub of neapolitan is going to jump me when I walk by.

For instance: I don't like you but that doesn't mean I'm afraid of you.

I don't think Bioware has any reason to back down on this.
It is entirely within their rights to choose what is acceptable on their boards, if they choose to censor something its their choice. Backlash from a very easily butthurt community aside.

Their forum is run for the public, but it is their domain to administer. Just like escapist magazine has every right to ban us from discussion of, for example, our favourite sex positions.

Yes... yes that makes you homophobic.

An irration fear, aversion, or discrimination of gays. That's what that means.

If someone just doesn't like black people, that makes them a racist. It's the same thing.

Irrational Fear is not the same as an aversion and not liking is not discrimination.

Reading this thread reminds me of why I really don't like gaming culture.

My thanks to everyone here who was a decent person about it.

Not liking something does not mean you have an irrational fear of it.

To be homophobic is to have an irrational fear of homosexuals.

Get this through your heads. If its discrimination you are complaining about then call it discrimination, thats what it is.

Yeah, it's "their choice" to exclude GLBT stuff but it's still a dick move and extremely cowardly discrimination. That applies as much to the game as to idiot forum mods. Not having anything but white soldiers in 40K is pretty dickish too. Saying "it's just their choice" is enabling privilege to stomp on minorities willy-nilly and is the entire reason the US has anti-discrimination laws about many areas because those "just choices" result in people not getting jobs for which they are qualified, not getting loans so they can buy houses and cars even after that, not getting equal admission to colleges and generally being held down, all by simple individual choice.

So yeah, it's just a game, but it's a part of that discriminatory attitude and it deserves to be fought and all you "wah wah PC wahhhh" babies can go choke on your privilege of never having to be outside looking in or worry about being treated with respect.
So wait a minute, are you saying that if an artist paints something featuring only people of one race then it's discrimination? I always thought we were striving for the "games are art" label and instead here we have people trying to tell the artist what they can and cannot paint?

I'll be perfectly and blatantly honest though, I'm disgusted by homosexuality in general but then again I'm also disgusted by humanity in general. However though I generally keep such comments to myself so whats the harm in my having my own opinion or thoughts on a topic if its not harming anyone? Simple. There is none. We live in a world where there is no way that everyone can get along and accept and believe the same thing as everyone else. There will always be people that disagree on things as we are all individuals. If you cannot accept this then thats fine but it's something that I've already come to terms with a long time ago. If you don't like my opinions or my thoughts then I really couldn't be bothered to care but I'm not going to change just like I don't expect to change the minds of anyone. Believe what you will, do what you will but leave me out of it.

Except.. the word that society has deemed worthy is the word "homophobic".

I present to you.... the dictionary.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/homophobia

Noun: irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals

Are you cleared up on that now? Or are you going to senselessly argue semantics all day? You may, if you want to, but it doesn't change what it is that we're talking about. Which is that painful2006 clearly hates gay people.

1. Fear of or contempt for lesbians and gay men.
2. Behavior based on such a feeling.

That is the definition of Homophobia from the American Heritage Dictionary.

irrational fear of, aversion to, or discriminationagainst homosexuality or homosexuals

And that's the one from the Merriam-Webster dictionary.

MEANINGS FOR WORDS CHANGE.

Homophobia unlike most "phobia" words means more than just a fear of the thing.

I already posted this for one person, but I'll do it for you, too.

The dictionary definition of homophobia.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/homophobia

Noun: irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals

So, who's butchering words again?

Difference between not liking something and thinking its wrong to have it in public. You are scared, and afraid to admit it. /sigh.
