If I remember right, there are 50 habitable planets within 20 lightyears of Earth (I may have those numbers backwards). If I remember right, there is one planet with life on it and three what scientists have said "Yeah, life could be or could have been there" just within our solar system. Considering we are one of 100 billion galaxies with 100 billion stars making them up, I would say it is very likely life is somewhere else out there. It is at least 1.4 parsecs away though.
1.4 parsecs isn't very far though is it? Astronomically speaking that is. That's only about four and a half light years. Which in the grand scheme of things is pretty close.
Yeah, it's close astronomically... but it's not close in terms of matter. It's still too far away for contact to have been made reliably, unless the aliens have broken physics.

I believe that it's certain (or near enough as makes no difference) that other intelligent life-form exist.

With the overwhelming SIZE of the universe, and the complexity it contains, the liklihood of there NOT being other life is slim to none.

I don't, however, believe that we have made contact with any, or any have made contact with us.

I wouldn't say that I believe in aliens, as that would imply worship (like every single different way of worshipping the same flipping god!). I would hope they exist because I would hate to think that our species is the only 'high-functioning' species in the Universe.

I have little enough faith in humanity as it is without it getting weaned out further.

I am pretty sure life thrives in many places in the Universe. However, getting here, inserting probes in our tender parts, and taking surgical hamburguers from cows... unlikely. Not impossible, but unlikely.

I find it refreshing, though, thinking that there is an advanced race that travels around the universe playing pranks on lesser civilizations, using a ship that appears a blurry orb of light and abducting the criminally insane.

I'm prepared to say it's possible for alien organisms to have evolved elsewhere in the universe, but with the caveat of practicality which means that information is basically meaningless.

Simple microscopic organisms within reach in a couple of lifetimes, perhaps. Under the ice of Europa or elsewhere in our solar system, possibly fossilised.

Encountering advanced alien societies in any way similar to ours? No. The universe it too vast, and interstellar travel is far too time consuming and impractical.

Hell yes I believe aliens exist, them not existing is mathematically impossible, and believing they don't exist is the absolute height of human arrogance, to think humanity is that super special, I mean.
Mathematically impossible? I don't think that means what you think it means.

And anyways, is it? Even if we account for non-carbon life forms, you still need your planet to be in a "Goldilocks Zone", you need it to be in a section of the galaxy that's not constantly attacked by radiation and rocks, you need to be going around a star that doesn't fry you instantly or supernova before life can get going, you need some pretty messed up stuff to happen (that I don't understand) to make life actually spark somehow, you need a stable environment to nurture that life, you need the life to reproduce, you need it to develop survival instincts, ways of replenishing itself, and it needs to survive any astronomical attacks the planet endures (say, a world-frying asteroid).

THEN it needs to survive a billion years or so to evolve to the point of intelligence.

And all on a much slimmer choice of planets than people think.

Frankly, I'd be astounded if there's life out there, and it's not arrogance or a feeling of being "special" that fuels that.

Sure. The universe is way too big for us to be the only life. And all it really takes is amino acids and water to make life if I'm not mistaken, and amino acids can be found in asteroids, which have a habit of hitting newborn planets. We've already found dead lifeforms on Mars. They didn't get to develop much at all, but it's still life, so we already know aliens exist, or at the very least they did once.
There are around 300 billion stars in a normal-sized galaxy, and there are hundreds of billions of galaxies in the universe, and a good number of those stars have planets orbiting them, and a good number of those are in the habitable area of a solar system, and any number of those could have oceans. All it takes is for asteroids with amino acids to volley them as much as they did Earth, and voila, life.

Do I believe in extraterrestrial life? Yup, indeed, 100%.

Do I believe in the Greys, abductions, Roswell ect. No, no I do not.

Not enough evidence to support the hypothesis of super advanced aliens visiting/abducting/guiding humanity for me to give it any serious thought.

More likely, alien species in galaxies like ours, in solar systems like ours, on planets that support life like ours, are more or less as advanced as we are. Aliens in younger sections are less advanced, and aliens in older sections could be more advanced. But I will probably never get to meet one, nor will anyone alive right now. The universe is just too damn big.

Now if only the History Channel would agree with me and go back to having shows about HISTORY instead of ice road truckers, ancient aliens, and other such nonsense.

Chances of us being the only life in the universe = miniscule.

Chances of said life coming to have visited us = miniscule.

We live in a universe with between 10 sextillion to 1 septillion suns. Even if only one percent of those suns have planets and a fraction of a percent of those planets are habitable the odds are still overwhelming for alien life.

As for aliens visiting earth? It makes for some great movie material but no, I do not think that earth has been visited by extraterrestrial life. Panicked masses and Deranged callers to radio stations claiming to work at area 51 are great 'evidence' but in all reality any space faring race would go to a planet for a purpose; resources, land, ect. not to just look at the odd life forms that call the planet home and scare them.

This is always a fun video. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GqzupY_BQI]

Do I think alien life exists? Yes.

Do I think intelligent alien life exists? Yes.

Do I think that intelligent alien life has visited Earth? No clue. I don't really care, nor do I see why I should.

Do I think interstellar travel with a reasonable amount of travel time (maybe a few years at most) will be possible? Yes. Probably in the very near future.

Do I think we'll ever make first contact with an alien society? Yes. Most definitely.

What do we really know about the ways of the Universe? Who are we? We're just some ignorant animals on a small blue and green rock circling around a small star at the edge of a whirling galaxy. The Universe is a big place, and we've only barely begun to test the waters.

Define exist. Its statistically extremely likely that there is life on other planest. Although saying that, it is also extremely unlikely, to the point of being nearly impossible that we would ever come in contact with them. So there are most likely these things somewhere in the universe, we will never see, hear, smell or touch them. Do you class that as existing? (This isnt meant to be snide or stuck up, im genuinely curious of what people think)

Alright so from what I gather, most of you believe aliens exist.. But don't believe they've visited earth or ever will?

But if they're aliens.. And happen to be WAY technologically advanced than we are, what's to say that a light year to them is not all that far?
That traveling between galaxies is easy for them?

I'm not trying to tell you all that you're wrong, I'm just creating more discussion and getting my idea out there.
To what end would that be? Are they intergalactic trolls who like to creep up on us and LOL at our reactions? Or maybe they've acquired a taste for probing human anuses? I suppose they're all valid hypotheses when talking about this sort of thing.

Serious time now.
First things first. There is nothing, absolutely no evidence to suggest that any alien lifeforms have ever visited this planet.
"What about all them lights in the sky? They gotta be alien!" No, they don't.
The great majority of videos or photos depicting alien crafts are either fakes, or something else entirely. Take the supposed UFO's from the video you've posted.
The Norwegian Spiral, and the Jerusalem Lights? They've both been proven to be fakes. The Moscow Halo? It's a meteorological event called Fallstreak hole. The UFO sighted in Hangzhou, China? This one's a bit trickier.
The photos depicting an elongated beam of light are fakes, and are actually long-exposure photos of aircrafts, which weren't even photographed in China. The photos and videos of a bright object in motion leaving a huge trail behind it are real, and the Chinese authorities have claimed responsibility for it, saying that it's connected to the military - whatever 'it' may be.

Do I think aliens exist? I don't know. Do I think we'll ever make contact with them? I don't know.
I don't understand the fascination that some people have with the notion of extraterrestrial life, particularly if the aliens would be more technologically advanced than us. I mean, how do you know if they're not blood-thirsty conquerors, or if they think that rape is a fun pastime?
What I'm saying is that I think we could all do with a little more objectivity, and less talk of creepy gray men from deep space.

The thing is, who says we are not the most advanced species on earth?

And I don't remember this very well, but I believe that in order to visit earth the aliens wold need a massive space ship with massive engines, so you could travel faster than speed of light and get here and still be alive.

I could have sworn those spirals over Norway were debunked...I would think though, that it's the more advanced civilizations trying to give us a hint about interstellar travel. Or maybe they're making fun of us by showing us giant celestial anus's.

Anyway, there is nothing to believe in. Life exists off of Earth, the Universe is too large and too varied for our little planet to be the only one harboring intelligent life. Hell, not even intelligent, I'm sure there are other planets covered with hyper-intelligent beings, planets with rudimentary life and everything in between. You know how your mom or dad would tell you that no matter how good you are at something there's always someone better? That's humanity on the galactic scale. There's someone or something out there who are higher up. There are things and creatures and, people out there who are not at our level. It's all just a matter of finding them and of being found by them.

Obviously some of them know where we are. I don't see why they're being so shy though.
