Do you bother with Badges?

I won't lie, there have been one or two badges that I'm proud of, but other than those I don't care. Some of them are just two easy to get, some others are just the result of special events. Like I said, there are only one or two badges that I care about, and thats only because they mean something to me. For example, my 'you like me!' badge, because I liked the person who added me.

As for judging someone by their badges, I've never done it. And my badge line up is quite modest so I don't think anyone will do it to me.

It's been almost a year since I first turned badges off. Just easier that way. They're arbitrary congratulations. I don't bother with them in short.

I find it interesting that any successful thread gets slung with accusations of being badgewhoring, even if the original intent was nothing such. It happened with FAQ You, with my Artist thread, no doubt with the Holiday council and such though I've not read enough of those to find out.
yet your own display of badges shows an array of exquisite, hard-to-get badges; as if to elevate your status above that of any newcomer. i sense a fair bit of hypocrisy.

I don't really care about them because no one has ever judged me in anyway for having them.

Wondered if someone would say that. Those I picked out quite a while ago. The DDKR is one exception, because it DDKR. Come on.

One of two of the Forum Wars badges, maybe the Thanks Badge, the On Fire badge, Cyber Celeb, "Long-Time Listener, First Time Caller"? There are most likely more, but I haven't come across them.
Actually, I think the IT Staff badge is the very hardest. It means you were personally hired by Virgil.

The only badges I care about recieving are the "Matrix" badges.
Just because they are somewhat exclusive and solely depends on my own actions.

i don't even know what DDKR is, let alone why it should be an exception.

if you indeed stopped caring about badges, then you'd have picked any common badges before turning them off. turning them off while having the best yourself is not only hypocritical, but also extremely arrogant. either this "DDKR" is the equivalent of a royal pardon, or you're being the most judgmental person on these forums.

I don't look at people's badges unless it's one I haven't seen before. Considering that you either get them by participating in forums/genre wars or by luckily doing something which rewards you with a badge (I've seen many badges which give no clue as to how to get them), I don't go after them. I get them as they come.

Pointless and useless like the achievements in xbox. I have seen variations of this type of reward on other forums. The only thing I haven't seen yet is a moderator making a thread about, "what awards you want added or deleted?"

I don't care that much for badges. I admit they're nice to get and all but i don't hunt for them.

I must admit, I'm quite the badge-whore. They actually played a decisive role in my joining this glorious place. Just wish I had more...

I made a thread asking how to remove them once and a mod made it into a request in the feedback/ideas thread, and they said they would not implement a feature to allow you to "stop getting badges"

so i pretty much go out of my way to avoid getting them. Once people see them, they form an opinion about you as a poster that has nothing to do with the validity of your post whatsoever.

By the way, excellent introduction to the thread, there was some very valid stuff in what you said, and i am glad to know i am not alone in some of my views concerning badges.

I think it's a neat little plus to be acknowledged for doing something like a good thread

I don't seek them out, but I feel good when I get one
