I've never actually heard that quote. But then, I suppose that I come to The Escapist for the articles and videos, not the forums. Still, it seems awfully pretentious.SUPA FRANKY said:We all know that 'ol saying. The Escapist is the only place in the entire interwebz to have an intelligent conversation.
Take your lazy sprinkles, and turn into the crust, filling and just about everything else in this metaphorical food.Cpt. Red said:Kinda the same for me but with some laziness sprinkled on top. And with some I mean allot...Erana said:I'm both overwhelmingly bright and a bit... dim. Absent-minded, rather. A high INT stat but low WIS, I guess.

I'm pretty much that.
Squandering intelligence, woo!![]()
HOLY CRAP IT'S THE INVINCIBLE SINGLE! That's probably my faovrite cover for asingle they've done. Definitely my favorite out of those space-y covers.Cheesus333 said:HOLY CRAP, IT'S MATT F*CKING BELLAMY! <3googleit6 said:Looking at my peers, though, I would hope that I am smarter than most of them. It will be a painful realization the day that I see that I am just the same as everyone else.
Edit: Academically, I am smart, but so are a bunch of other people. So much so in fact, that saying I'm academically smart hardly means anything. In terms of actual considering, and relating, and empathizing, though, I like to think I am above average. Especially the empathizing part.
That said, this. I get good levels and grades for my work, but that doesn't mean a great deal in the real world. If Common Sense was a stat I'd have been too thick to put any points in it.
I'm perfectly aware of where it puts me. I'm not trying to brag or anything but that is my IQ.skips said:An IQ of 173 puts you in the top 99.9999431733% of everyone in the world, meaning that you are among (approximately) the smartest 3800 people on the planet. Not to be rude, but I would recommend double-checking the validity of the test you have taken.sketch_zeppelin said:Upper 90%
estimated I.Q. of 173
that being said i'm actually pretty lazy and don't really use much of my potential...in other words i know i'm smart but so what?
While I realize I deserve a bit of a chop busting for the above exchange, you ought to look up the definition of pretentious more closely - people most commonly use it in the way that you have described but its slightly different. Kinda like how nothing in the Alanis Morisette song is actually ironic!dathwampeer said:Actually, being pretentious simply means you have a very high opinion of yourself and you're not shy about letting other people know it. Having this high opinion of yourself and outwardly expressing it, whilst simultaneously not living up to your own hype, is just a more hyperbolic example of pretension.megalomania said:SnippityThe_Ghost_Ninja said:Snipmegalomania said:Snip
The fact that you are doing a PhD in Chemistry doesn't change the fact that what you said sounded pretentious.
But what the other guy said sounded pretty pretentious in it's own right. Which makes him a pretentious hypocrite. Even worse. XD
I on the other hand? I'm just a twat who likes to bust chops.
dathwampeer said:lol, quote battle. I don't think you understand how satirical my post was. especially the very last part that you held onto to comment on math skills I supposedly implied. I could have just as easily wrote science or whatever else the learned folk talk about <- See I'm a peasant now.megalomania said:Snipdathwampeer said:Snipmegalomania said:SnippityThe_Ghost_Ninja said:Snipmegalomania said:Snip
Also your use of Ego maniacal was a bit harsh, I didn't see it as that I was giving an example of how I could be lead to believe I'm above average, a fallacy.
I like the "you don't know me!" defense as well, Don't see that enough these days
