We all know that 'ol saying. The Escapist is the only place in the entire interwebz to have an intelligent conversation.
I've never actually heard that quote. But then, I suppose that I come to The Escapist for the articles and videos, not the forums. Still, it seems awfully pretentious.

I am intelligent. I am fairly knowledgeable. I am also an idiot sometimes. At other times I am a moron. Puzzle that out.

I consider myself extremely intelligent, much more-so than the average teenager.

Alhough that may stem from the fact that throughout my ENTIRE school career, which was unfortunately cut short due to some unforeseen medical issues, all my teachers said, and I quote "you're an extremely intelligent boy and I know you can do better if you apply yourself"...

My test scores were the highest in my classes but my assignments were never handed in, go figure.

I must also admit, however, that I do have my fair share of 'there is always something or someone smarter than yourself moments'

I'm both overwhelmingly bright and a bit... dim. Absent-minded, rather. A high INT stat but low WIS, I guess.
Kinda the same for me but with some laziness sprinkled on top. And with some I mean allot...
Take your lazy sprinkles, and turn into the crust, filling and just about everything else in this metaphorical food.

I'm pretty much that.

Squandering intelligence, woo! :D

I consider myself intelligent, but my level of intelligence has slipped over the years, and people's expectations of me are too high now.

I may be clever, but can't figure out people.

Lazy fucks of the world unite!

Wait, on second thought that's far too much work.

Looking at my peers, though, I would hope that I am smarter than most of them. It will be a painful realization the day that I see that I am just the same as everyone else.

Edit: Academically, I am smart, but so are a bunch of other people. So much so in fact, that saying I'm academically smart hardly means anything. In terms of actual considering, and relating, and empathizing, though, I like to think I am above average. Especially the empathizing part.
HOLY CRAP, IT'S MATT F*CKING BELLAMY! <3

That said, this. I get good levels and grades for my work, but that doesn't mean a great deal in the real world. If Common Sense was a stat I'd have been too thick to put any points in it.
HOLY CRAP IT'S THE INVINCIBLE SINGLE! That's probably my faovrite cover for asingle they've done. Definitely my favorite out of those space-y covers.

Anyways, yeah, I have no common sense either. That's why my friend says I suck at Legend of Zelda, cause I don't think with commone sense. Funny enough, I am very logical. That doesn't make *common* sense. *Ba Dum Tsh*

It was my understanding that the escapist was all gifted people with no retards compared to other forums. I believe I calculate more than the average of my age.

estimated I.Q. of 173

that being said i'm actually pretty lazy and don't really use much of my potential...in other words i know i'm smart but so what?
An IQ of 173 puts you in the top 99.9999431733% of everyone in the world, meaning that you are among (approximately) the smartest 3800 people on the planet. Not to be rude, but I would recommend double-checking the validity of the test you have taken.
I'm perfectly aware of where it puts me. I'm not trying to brag or anything but that is my IQ.

I'm what is know as a lazy genius. Its entirely possible that i just test unusally well but i can learn and process information very easily...i just don't do anything with it.

I think i am a bit smarter than the average person of my age but my laziness kind of prevents me from being a lot smarter than the average person.

Personally I believe there's far too many definitions of intelligence for someone to consider themselves so. If I talk with some civility on a forum (like this *wink wink*) it doesn't make me any more intelligent than if I da1k l1k3 diz. Too many definitions and we as humans like to think of ourselves as smarter than the average bear far too much.

See? I just wrote a small thesis on human intelligence! And I still don't think of myself as any more intelligent than I was years ago. And if I did there's no way I'd openly admit it and nullify my entire previous argument. It just doesn't work that way.

Actually, being pretentious simply means you have a very high opinion of yourself and you're not shy about letting other people know it. Having this high opinion of yourself and outwardly expressing it, whilst simultaneously not living up to your own hype, is just a more hyperbolic example of pretension.

The fact that you are doing a PhD in Chemistry doesn't change the fact that what you said sounded pretentious.

But what the other guy said sounded pretty pretentious in it's own right. Which makes him a pretentious hypocrite. Even worse. XD

I on the other hand? I'm just a twat who likes to bust chops.
While I realize I deserve a bit of a chop busting for the above exchange, you ought to look up the definition of pretentious more closely - people most commonly use it in the way that you have described but its slightly different. Kinda like how nothing in the Alanis Morisette song is actually ironic!

OP: you're an exception, because most people consider themselves more intelligent than those around them, even if they don't admit it.

lol, quote battle. I don't think you understand how satirical my post was. especially the very last part that you held onto to comment on math skills I supposedly implied. I could have just as easily wrote science or whatever else the learned folk talk about <- See I'm a peasant now.
Also your use of Ego maniacal was a bit harsh, I didn't see it as that I was giving an example of how I could be lead to believe I'm above average, a fallacy.
I like the "you don't know me!" defense as well, Don't see that enough these days
