Do you think dragons are overdone and boring?

Well we got two recent games with dragons... ya the idea is really overdone, unlike zombies which we almost never see.

I just wish someone would do the Baldur's Gate style dragons again where they aren't just dumb animals.

You mean like World of Warcraft, the latest - released, that is - expansion of which is themed all about the intelligent dragons? Hell, last expansion we had Liquid Snake voicing one! And he's really good at it too. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubFUb6crsGw]

Because this time they are more than big lizards glued to the floor or flying around at the end of a dungeon or the top of a tower near the end game. Besides, I already got used to the Elder Scrolls universe's lack of dragons, so it is nice to see how they will fit in.

I must admit an Elder Scrolls game set on a series of islands where you can swim out into the ocean and explore underwater and fight Krakens sounds like fun.
Sounds like the way Guild Wars 2's underwater combat has been described.

Anyway, I love dragons, and I'm really looking forward to the ones in Guild Wars 2. They're huge, rare, and have legions of smaller monsters to serve them. Unfortunately, the ones shown so far are a bit static, but that is the price any giant boss in a MMORPG pays, I guess.

I won't get fed up with dragons before such a time where they make a "dragon peasant" mod for every single fantasy game out there.

Until then the zombie nazis can hold their stale trophy to the sky and groan at all other, more interesting creatures.

Not that i think dragons will ever get old in that particular sense because people seem to think there's just something inherantly awesome about a flying, fire breathing lizard mutant that never ages (or at least ages extremely slowly), and i tend to agree :D

Yes, yes I do.

At least the standard western flying-four-legged-long-necked-lizard-that-breathes-fire ones certainly are. Developers, if you really must resort to dragons, at least make them look distinctive.

However, credit where it's due, the ones in Skyrim actually look pretty good. They're just utterly generic.

Dragons are never boring. Including Spyro! Well... Except skylanders but that's a different story all together actually. . .

Anyway, this big dragon just flew over me and treated me to a bbq. Of which I was the meat and he the attendee. It was awesome x.x

Sure, I'd agree that they're overused.

Oh, wait, you mean Skyrim's dragons? That's entirely different, then. Those things are awesome.

A little bit but they are still awesome.
It?s not like zombies; you don?t fight hordes of dragons. Allot of fantasy games have a dragon or 2 somewhere but you?re not being flooded with them.

Perhaps you'd enjoy a visit from the local Tarrasque? No? Didn't think so.

I'm fine with them as long as they're suitably difficult to kill. Dragon Age did this fairly well, where they're the toughest things you'll have to fight, and you feel like you need several people with their own complex strategies just to take one of them down. Even with high quality weapons, armor, gear, spells, potions, and stats, they're still bitches and a half to take down. If you can saunter up to a proper sized dragon by yourself and carve it up, it feels like an overly large, bitey deer to me--because if just one person can take them down, how is it that they aren't habitually hunted? It really negates the point of them if you can just mosey on up to them and carve them open.

The reasons for the Dragon excitement go far deeper than you realize. For the true Elder Scrolls fans, (i.e., people who played the series before Oblivion) Dragons are significant because they are an Akaviri race. Akavir is one of the most mysterious parts of the Elder Scrolls universe, therefore a game in which an Akaviri race plays such a significant role is... exciting.

for me no, dragons are just too friggin awesome :p.

no really, there is no such thing as to many games having dragons. I could see to many dragons in one game becoming a problem but as long as you keep your dragons as "boss" kind of encounters I don't think I'll ever get enough of it

Yeah someone already hit the nail on the head here, Dragons arent actually used that much in games, well I mean that in each game that would feature dragons theres only a couple of them, and they tend to be legendary beast type monsters.
If every single fantasy game focused completely on dragons then yes, it would get tiring but until then, theyre fine.
Also im not sick of zombies due to the fact that i dont play very many zombie games

I've enjoyed dragons in games and media since I was a kid, Dragonheart, Drakan 2, etc but I'll grant you they're becoming a little stereotypical. Zombies though are much worse and I still enjoy zombies...I guess my point is that even if they are over done, if they're over done in a fun and enjoyable way and you as a player/viewer are happy enough with the end result then who the hell cares? Im not one for overthinking things, if I enjoy it then bleh...
