F*ck no, I go around wearing a shirt with a quantum physics joke, the only facet of geekdom I have yet to embrace is dungeons and dragons, and that would probably change the moment I meet someone who plays it.
Quantum physics joke? This is relevant to my interests!
Is it the one with Schrödinger and the speed limit?

OT: Hell no! I wear shirts with math jokes, IT jokes, physics jokes and Daleks (in a country that has no idea what "a Doctor Who" is).
I would probably be king of the local geeks, if there were any real ones.
Schrödinger yes, but not that one, it has "Schrödinger's cat is dead" on the front and "Schrödinger's cat is not dead" on the back, it leads to many explanations.
Ah, a good one too.
I thought about getting one that says "Wanted: Schrödinger's cat - dad and alive" but I haven't quite decided yet there are so many great shirts.

Ish, yeah. Mainly because my school's full of dickbags and if they knew I read comic books, watched cartoons and played videogames other than gritty FPSes (what's the plural for FPS?) then I'd constantly get the piss taken out of me and I can't be asked to deal with that. When I'm with my close friends however, I tend to let a bit more of my geekiness shine through.

As my facebook bio says:

"I play Dungeons & Dragons. I play Chivalry & Sorcery. I play Magic: The Gathering. I am a living book of random facts. And I am an unapologetic nerd who enjoys speaking in pig latin. You got a problem with that?!"

I wouldn't say i'm geeky, i'm a nerd with a distinct passion for gaming and pulp culture, I wear this on my sleeve and if anyone (dates included) doesn't approve they can fuck off and stop wasting my time

Don't hide what you are mate, it's why everyone is so boring in school is because they are all trying to be like some non existent person, be yourself and if they have a problem with it, there is your answer THEY HAVE A PROBLEM.

I see it a pride to be good in something... So being a geek means you are good in geeky stuff and you should be proud of it.

usually no, but today, i found myself embarrased about my new tattoo. It's gouki(from street fighter) depicted as a raijin (a japanese god of lightning and thunder) it looks amazing, but i found myself scared to show it off to somebody who simply wouldn't understand. it made me sad :(.

I don't bring shit like this up in public, are you kidding? And the people on my campus who actually do hangout playing tabletop games and warcraft in public? They're some of the most obnoxious people I've ever seen. they have to completely take over whatever lounge/room/area they all decide to be in that day, and the kicker is they actually smell bad. They are the living embodiment of every negative geek stereotype.

So would I want to associate myself with that kind of person? Would you?

Depends on who I'm talking to. If I'm talking to friends I may reference anime or make a video game joke. No point in talking about that to my mum, she won't understand what I'm talking about.

Hell no.
I'm also a computer sciences student, so it's not really like I risk cultural alienation.

Nope, I'm proud of who I am. I openly talk about anime, games and other geeky stuff I'm into with my friends.

I study physics at uni so its pretty difficult to keep nerdyness a secret when people ask you that question that everyone you meet at uni asks you.
On the other hand, I like to think that I don't give off a particularly nerdy vibe, I dress well, I have lots of non-nerdy interests, I like to think of myself as not socially awkward.

I generally laugh it off by saying that I'm either a closet nerd or a part time nerd.

Also, I generally present myself as a music nerd, which is probably the most socially acceptable sort of nerd.

Not really. I've been wearing various Green Lantern Power Rings over the past week, and I'm constantly wearing Geek shirts and making geek jokes. I couldn't hide if if I tried.

My question is, do any of you ever stop yourself from doing or saying things in regular conversation so that you won't be labeled as a geek?

No. What's the point of being a certain way if you are afraid/ashamed of it or another reason that causes you to hide it? Be yourself in everything you do, and to everyone you meet. Those who judge you, obviously aren't worth your time. The people that can accept that you do 'geeky' things are the people you likely want to be around. <3
I beg to differ.
I always hide things about myself.
There are 2 major reasons I try to hide anything that's geeky about me.

1. When I'm in a group where no one doesn't even have the slightest clue what a video game is, or what the geek culture is all about.
I mean in such groups, making references to stuff or jokes will just seem as if I'm speaking a different language. Not understanding what I'm talking about they may even make fun of how stupid I am(it always starts off with "What a failed attempt for a joke, ha ha!").

2. When I'm in a "geek" community(is this ironic or what?).
I do have a certain geeky nature, but to be honest I don't consider myself a geek or a gamer one bit. I mean I play games, I watch the news about the latest games and anything console related(although I don't even own a console), I have some general knowledge about the pop culture the movie culture and the gaming culture, but I don't know/I haven't done some things in my life that would automatically make me a blasphemous person among the geek communities.
Let me explain: I have't ever played a FF game, I never got to see all the Star Treck films and episodes, I didn't even watch landmark movies of history(The Godfather, Hot Fuzz, Fight Club, et cetera)

... Yeah, *sob* I think I should be going now ... *Leaves with his head low and filled with shameful thoughts*

Edit: And on top of all this, my writing stinks!
