NOTE TO ALL: Final Fantasy XIV IS A PS3 EXCLUSIVE.

It doesn't stand a chance to reach WoW-fame, reason... Look up.
No, its a PC and PS3 exclusive. Meaning the only platform it won't make it to is 360. It has a chance to do very well.
Does anyone click freaking links to facts? It's been stated from Squenix that they may indeed be bringing it to the 360 as well. They haven't decided yet. "WE are considering all other options" is what Squenix said.
Some people have too many opinions, too little time to express them. No time to read!

I am glad I was alive to see FF7 through 9 because it seems those were the last of the best FF of all time.
Sir I think I would like to buy you a drink. Finally, someone who agrees with me.

But at any rate, do we have to ask every time a new mmo is announced if it is the fabled "WoW toppler" Come on people get this through your skulls, the only thing that is going to kill that behemoth and set 11 or 15 million people free (myself included) is the quake to end all quakes that sinks california and blizzard's hq into the ocean. So basically an act of God.

The MMO market does not exist in the Highlander universe. They don't have to fight to the death to see who "The One" can be. Even the developers themselves acknowledge this. Sure there is some crossover in that most users will only play 1 MMO at a time, but no one is setting out with the goal of killing WoW. There goal is to turn a profit. If they take some of WoW's users - great, if they convert new users - great or even if they are just pulling in their regular niche fans - it all works out for them.

Sorry but WoW has 11 million people or something like that. Taking that down is like trying on the Death Star with a stick and some yogurt. Its not going to happen...
hahaha nice

I'm not sure...it really needs to garner a large popularity first
on any platform it's the case =T

Um... I seem to recall it being taken down initially by some half-assed punk from some backwater planet in the ass-end of the galaxy flying a rickety second-hand fighter who used two little photon torpedoes on an exhaust port to exploit the mother of all design flaws to destroy that Death Star.

On topic though,
WoW's days will eventually be numbered... there was a time when Everquest was untoppable as THE imminent RPG. What WoW did however is it made the entire game an OPTIONAL affair... what I mean by that is that YOU can play it with 6 of your best friends or play it to max level by yourself. Lets face it... sometimes you want to just play by yourself or with your best friend and WoW did a phenomenal job of making the game fully accessible to both styles of game play. I cant even think of another RPG on the market where you can easily and naturally level all the way to the maximum level without insane gearing or preperation and tactics.

Until another game does that, with the level of inventive single player content, WoW is going to hold on to the mainstream market the same way the Wii is.

Think there needs to be a sign on the door to this post "Next person to say PS3 exclusive without reading anything will be stabbed." It's one thing to ask a question about such, but far too many of you just spout off incorrectly.
Here: http://e3.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/696163/E3-2009-Square-Enix-Press-Conference-Tons-Of-Final-Fantasy-XIV-Details-Revealed.html

Again: http://www.destructoid.com/e3-09-ffxiv-will-be-coming-to-pc-134576.phtml

Both sources from the Q&A SQE had during E3. Please stop posting false info, that took 3 seconds of google power.
Microsoft are perfectly happy to call the Left 4 Dead's of this world 360 exclusives, and the guy I was quoting stated that it was on 360, which isn't the case.

Back to the topic, again, nothing has come remotely close to dislodge WoW, there have been more hyped MMOs trying, and Final Fantasy 14 is also on consoles, which never bodes well.

Yes, if for no other reason than WoW is currently about 75% of the way through it's life. The question is will it stand up to the next generation of MMOs, which includes Blizzards new baby.

Actually it depends on where you put the yoghurt (English spelling FTW).

The only way a game like this will beat wow is for it to fix the problems with wow.
What do you think the problems with wow are?
some class balencing issues gear from 25-mans, mainly tier, isnt a mega upgrade from 10-mans. Arena gear being better than raiding gear.
Dual spec.
Achievements like superior and epic
Still slow Gm times.
More things in patched need to be added aimed at the lvling people, rather than end game.
Some 40 mans or world bosses would have been nice in lich king.
1. They balanced some things with Ulduar.(tier 7 sucks still, but not really 7.5)
2. Arena Gear takes a hellva lot of time to get, unless your already in like T8/8.5 gear
3. many people spent hundreds upon hundrends to change from like PvP to Raid spec on a weekly basis.
4. Superior/Epic create goals (and thats the point of the Achievement system)
5. well yeah there are slow GM times, there are like a whole shit ton of people that play and servicing them will take time.
6. whats the point in adding content if high end peeps wont do it?
7.umm.... the reason they changed it to 25 mans is cause of people doing their job in relation to people sitting the back eating grass and fucking eachother.

If they take 2% of WoW market the game is a success.
So Yes, they have a chance. Durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

The game is being designed to keep the current income they are seeing from FF11 before those subscribers move on to other games and to bring in new business. This MMO on all fronts could be more of the same, buggy, laggy and overall just carbon copy of FF11 and it will still turn a profit.

Perhaps, but unlikely. I'll probably play it and then realize that I got sick of MMO's a while ago.

Final Fantasy 14 will be an MMO?

Proof please?
At press conference, Q&A session, they said its MMORPG, basically will borrow alot in terms of races from FFXI, new classes, systems, world, gameplay was not commented on, more casual....and monthly fees or lack there of r not announced as of yet
Covered way earlier, thanks for reading the entire thread before commenting on my one mistake. I'm sorry I didn't pay attention to all of the E3 coverage... Kinda the same way you didn't pay attention to this entire thread... Hmmm...

Of course not! WoW= EPICEST WIN! Muahahahaha! No actually, there's a couple things that will hold it back from beating good old Warcraft. Its just too late, in my opinion. Like 1/600 of the world's population plays WoW (an amazing feat, I'm pretty sure that 10 million is 1/600 of 6 billion). WoW is just the early bird, and it got 11 million worms living in their worm parent's basements (of which I am one, yay!)
