I can see the styles clashing pretty heavily. Tokleinesque fantasy isn't something that would really lend itselt to an anime art style. That's just a presumption of course.
What about Record of the Lodoss War and Berserk?
I was gonna say, I thought they already did a Dragon Age anime. It was just called Record of Lodoss War.

Anime is really a catch all term for any piece of animation nowadays reguardless of whatever art direction is taken

This could actually turn out quite well. Some of my favourite anime is in the fantasy genre (Lodoss War, RG Veda, etc.). My real concern is working with an unproven studio. Sure it will keep the costs down but sometimes you get what you pay for.

Bioware: why? Why, why are you trying to fuck up everything awesome you have? First, the Mass Effect movie, and now this?
Why, Bioware? Why?
Let's wait to see them before we say whether they're crap or not.

I consider myself the optimist, yet I find it difficult to be optimistic about this.

I don't see Dragon Age as an anime.
I could see it working as one, see also stuff like Berserk. However the problem is them trying to make it a movie. Something like Dragon Age could only work as a series, because only a series could be in-depth enough to actually make it feel like the game. A movie is far too short, and would undermine the sprawling narrative structure of the RPG even more.

At least they've got funimation working on this.
It would have been fucking awesome if they actually got Studio Ghibli to do it... Though I honestly can't see that working.

Great. Thanks EA. As if ruining some of my favorite games wasn't enough you now go onto not just murder one of my favorite games, but to also ruin anime for me.

I would go on to say more but i fear moderators wrath. Its offensive though. So feel offended!

Never. It is my objective to boycott anything that could ruin my beloved games!
Jokes.

But seriously, I'll wait, but I highly doubt they'll be good.

I wonder why they chose Funimation to produce it, when they haven't made a single anime. Would've preferred it if an established studio like Production I.G. took up the task.

Why Anime? Why not real animation?
Anime IS real animation.
To each their own.. But when it's 3 frames for someone talking, people flying into the sky to sword fight, or the lack of real backgrounds in favor of lasers and other flashy chaos, I call it lazy animation.

Do you have any examples?

Yeah the Dead Space movie did suck something awful. The Dead Space animated comic which you could download for free off of the internet and X-Box live was really good though. They should have made that into a movie.

I think this could be good if they do it right. Record of Lodoss War was a great Fantasy anime. It could also turn out really badly though, like the Dragonlance anime. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

*sigh* Why a movie AGAIN? Look, guys, I love anime, I love Dragon Age, I really am your target audience. Make a series, I'm there, I'll watch, I'll buy the boxset. A movie? You've already lost my attention. It's a freaking RPG, you morons! You can't fit an RPG's storyline into a 90-120 minute production!

Look, I get what you're going for. Anime is cool and popular, you can get away with lots of blood and occasional nudity, and you like expanding your properties beyond their initial borders without the fear of Uwe Boll getting involved. But this is NOT going to be a success for you.

And to those poo-pooing anime and saying this will somehow 'ruin something good', be a lttle more rational. These folks are looking for places to expand into, and a visual product makes the most sense. And this way, like I said, you run no risk of Uwe Boll getting involved, so bonus points there.
