If they do this as an anthology and get people with actual talent to make unique interpretations of the world and concepts (instead of just giving people scripts like that Batman thing) then this could potentially be interesting. I really hope they manage to make something good come out of these joint productions.

Will it be as "high quality" as the comic books? If so, then it will be pretty terrible overall. Something about making a comic geared towards children from something geared towards adults kinda seems wrong to me. And now an anime, which will most likely have a terrible, childish story (just my assumption)...doesn't strike me as an intelligent form of marketing...

I can't speak to much as to whether or not anime DA:O will be any good, but I'd highly suggest the machinima Warden's Fall. It's been pretty well received so far. If you're interested http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRVTl2ii8BM

Should of made a Mass Effect anime, like they teased in Kasmumi's loyalty mission. Anime Krogan = awesome.

Hm, the Escapist seems pretty OK now, let's look arou...
*sees this thread*
...and here comes the anime hate.

To be perfectly honest, I don't think this (the anime, the thread's already horrible) will be great, but I don't think it will be terrible either.

*shakes his head in dismayed annoyance* EA, no. Just no. I don't want to see dodgy under age 6 year olds battling darkspawn whilst the girls end up exposing more than a soho hooker.

Animation, fair enough; Anime, NO.
Witty and totally well-informed.

Speaking of which, when was the last time any of us saw an adult, animated title come out that wasn't labeled as anime?

Well, my interest was perked, but then I saw that FUNimation was working on it... That makes it a most probably "no" on my part...

I am fairly disappointed... Now that I think of it I would have liked a Lord of the Rings - type movie based on Dragon Age but not this. Sad news for me.

Actully yes, western animation styles aren't good enough anymore considering the only western animation that is even good would have to be futurerama(idk why it is just awesome) and south park(and even then, that animation is basicly pieces of cardboard throw together). Then the rest of it is that absolutley horrible drivel known as Family Guy as well as its equally unfunny spin-offs

so...in short...Japanese Anime FTW!!!

OT: A DA:O anime SERIES would be awesome, but idk about a movie. I would also feel more comfortable if it was in the hands of someone more reputable such as Sunrise, or many others...but Funimation...meh

Well, those were pretty damned awesome! And I'd much rather see more of this kind of thing than an "anime" in the traditional sense, truthfully.

I would like to put The Venture Bros forward as great North American style animation. The writing is top shelf, the style sharp and vibrant, and the voice actors are all pros. There is good western animation out there, you just gotta leave the major networks to find it.

I was expecting fan-made cheese when I watched it the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Who knows where it'll go but it seems promising so far. [/fingerscrossed]

I could see it working as one, see also stuff like Berserk. However the problem is them trying to make it a movie. Something like Dragon Age could only work as a series, because only a series could be in-depth enough to actually make it feel like the game. A movie is far too short, and would undermine the sprawling narrative structure of the RPG even more.
Oh yeah, Berserk was awesome but the ending was balls.;_;
I agree with the movie part, a movie is simply not long enough to capture the awesomeness of the Dragon Age setting.

I try to be open to things, but I just can't open up to anime for some reason.
I simply can't feel any flow in any of the animation.

I know, a bunch of you will come out and spew anime series that have good animation, but out of anything I have ever seen, these are short, sporadic moments in larger scenes involving minimal movement. Once well animated scene is not going to save the rest from being static and mediocre.

I wish we still had the DC Animated Universe.... That was some good western animation.

To be honest, if you want especially good animation quality, you should probably be looking for movies instead of series.

did anyone watch EA's dante's inferno anime, was it any good just wondered cos this will probably be produced by a similar group of people

If anything it'd be more similar to dead space animation than the dante's inferno animation.
I've seen both. Dead space animation is made by the same studio that does simpsons and other cartoon. Not considering the plot and the voice acting, the animation and visual is absolutely awful. Everything seems fuzzy and blurry and the motion looks like someone just drag a cardboard cutout across the screen. It's pretty much a disgrace as an animation movie.

The dante's inferno animation is done in 5 parts by different studio, the first part by the same studio as the dead space one and the rest is by japanese and korean studios. The production values between the american section and the asian section is so huge that you'd think the american section is intended as a joke.

To answer both or your questions. If this animated movie is done by a asian studio and adapt a completely new story line, it'll probably be decent. And as to why western animation is not good enough, it's because western animation studios don't take their job seriously.

Hmm, I've always thought that it was a shame that Bioware have to wrap their generally decent storyline in a set of terrible gameplay mechanics. This might be worth checking out.

Why would they do a truly western style Rpg fantasy in an eastern style of art and story telling?

I'm not very optimistic about this.

I have a bad feeling it will ignore all the things that made the game great and instead focus on some kids and their slow realization of the horrors of war or something. And that would ruin it. Just kill some darkspawn and maybe a dragon or something.

But i guess we shall see.
