I know that last sentence was supposed to be sarcasm, but its Bioware, so you're correct. They already made the best game ever before this (Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn).

40 perfect scores from gaming publications
Sorry, this is actually sad. There should never be a "perfect" game.

40 "Wow, this is damn good" is fine. Can we get back to when reviews weren't all "FAIL/WIN"? Even Yahtzee has a sliding scale of crud.
I think the use of the word 'perfect' is misleading. There's no such thing as a perfect game, but if something stands out as an outstanding example of it's genre and has no significant flaws then surely it deserves full marks. Nothing that is tested against a set of criteria (not to mention subjectively by a person whose enjoyment of the game will differ from that of the next person) needs to be perfect to get full marks. It just needs to be damn good. Sure, no game is flawless, but if the reviewer feels that the positives of a game make the negatives neglegable or even irrelevant, then the game gets a 'perfect' score.

...and 40 such scores is still very darned impressive.

That's it, game designers. Hang up your mouse. You will never make a more perfect game than Mass Effect 2.
I really hope you're not serious with that statement.

I guess this is good news. I don't think the game is perfect, I think a lot of games have come closer to hit perfection than Mass Effect 2[footnote]And with The Last Guardian coming out, I'm willing to bet that games will be closer to perfection in the future as well[/footnote], but it's a damn fine game anyway.

I guess......its still their first FPS as far as I am concerned....
Yeah apart from it not being in first-person and it not really being a shooter. Well ok it is but a lot of shooters don't have you do on-the-fly 'magic' attacks. It'd be like saying KOTOR was their first hack 'n slash game. In that it's just an oversimplification.

The sheer quality of Mass Effect 2 is astounding. Bioware damn well deserve this one.
I couldn't agree more.

It's an absolute masterpiece and shaping up to be my favorite game of all time.

If I were a critic it would be a 99%... losing one point for the boring planet scanning parts.

Glad to hear it, Bioware completely deserves all the success they're having.
Absolutely, good sir. They're on a roll with their games. I'll admit that I disliked Mass Effect but I went ahead and bought Mass Effect 2 anyway and it's great so far! Combine that with other games like Dragon Age and Baldur's Gate and you've got yourself one of, if not the, best game developer of all time.

I, actually, quite liked them. So much better than sending the Mako down and doing the terribly boring driving around hoping you stumbling across a deposit. Remember what they used to be like when you get annoyed at planet scanning next time.

Wait, one of the most influential? I agree that it's good but until now what exactly has it influenced? I can't think of a single game except Dragon Age and that hardly counts.

Yup, I would definately rather scan planets than drive halfway up another fucking mountain and get stuck in a hole in the goddamn Mako...

There's nothing lucky about it, unless you consider genetics luck. Are we a bit jealous of other primates success here? Going back to the stone age are we?
Nay not really.
I just don't see the fun in the game, and I for one think it's boring as hell.

Therefore I think it was a lucky shot that they went this far.
Because the game suck
The same has been said of World of Warcraft. I hardly call the most profitable game of all time luck. Also, luck is part of you're skill. It's good things that happen which you don't understand enough to satisfy you. Everything can be explained. Most people, the absolute majority, use the word luck to describe the good fortune of other people which they do not like.

Also, how can you find it boring? It's of the most intense shooters I've ever played. Outside the RPG talking stuff, which you can pretty much skip through, it's all shooting people in interesting and innovative ways. Perhaps you care about what Yahtzee thinks too much, or haven't played enough of Mass Effect 2. I find it much more intense than the first one. I also find it even more fun.

"40 perfect scores from gaming publications"
Means absolutely nothing!
Lot's of these are bought in the first place.

Also, some loonie's lonely website which no one reads can also be called a "publication"...
And marketing blurbs are nothing but very creative with the meaning's of such words.
