I love the fight, I like that Hirschberg is taking the high ground while lying out of his ass, and I love that Green in a complete douche, but saying the things we all know Hirschberg is thinking. So yeah, this is gonna be entertaining
Btw, I would be so happy if both these games fail. Seriously, I'd jump and scream. If MW3 fails, I'd still be very happy, and if BF3 fails I'll barely react cuz it's not really surprising. Until I see the piracy figures for BF3, then I'll laugh again...

I'm going to have to side with EA here.

Activision's rhetoric comes off as empty platitudes - seeing as their love affair with fatiguing their franchises with annual releases probably does as much damage to the games industry as anything else, while EA smack talking is actually kind of amusing.

An emotional side of me said, "Yeah, this is pretty stupid," but another, rational side of me said, "No, that's business." This is how business works: fierce, brutal competition. If the industry took the method Activision's spokesperson said, we wouldn't have the major technological advancements, much less improvement on the industrial complex of games, necessary to get into a higher state of entertainment. Even if you take the artsy perspective in this situation, this advancement definitely affects indie developers. When the whole industry goes up, the whole industry goes up absolutely. This may seem childish, but escalation is terrific because the only way to deflate tensions is to smoke out the competition, either by intimidation (upping the quality of services) or just going all out on physical altercations. Latter ain't happenin'.

Also, I want to see Activision fucking dirty after this. Nobody else wants to see that? They've had a pretty comfortable position for a while. If EA's new tactic really gets to them, they'll try to change up their development strategy, for better and for worse. News right there.

Edit: I don't know how accurate this is but maybe if, after this escalation, Activision loses the competition it'll lose the faith of its stockholders/investors or something? I know nothing about economics, a-doh.

While EA isn't exactly acting like mature adults, I don't believe one word out of Hirshbergs mouth. He's just saying those good things to make Activision look better but I'm pretty sure he doesn't believe the words he says.

Neither does Green. These people are not the type that will be that emotional over a video game rivalry. Their prime concerns are investors and profits.

Developers don't usually talk smack among each other. They respect each other's work. Publishers and the PR guys on the other hand...

I'm surprised there are even people defending Activision. Bobby Kotick's mouth has cause enough damage to that company. And I'm sorry but bringing up the Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk failures was a great point. Activision hasn't really published anything else worth playing other than CoD and that's a problem. Look at what relying on one franchise did to Square Enix.

Didn't they publish Starcraft 2 since they own Blizzard. Square Enix has Eidos so they're doing well with games.

Uh, try again. Activision does not own Blizzard. Activision and Blizzard are both subsidiaries under Vivendi a massive French conglomerate. Meaning that Activision has nothing to do with Blizzard. The company "Activision Blizzard" is just a holding company. That means it's just there for stock trading purposes. So my point about Activision not having published anything worthwhile still stands.

Also Square Enix having Eidos does nothing for Square Enix. It was Square Enix EUROPE that bought out Eidos. I don`t know how a subsidiary of a subsidiary could be making holding up a company like you think it does. Square Enix is still tanking hard.
