Russians are great for games. Why?
They're living humans, so have a realism edge over zombies, aliens etc. They also don't have the comically evil stigma of nazis, nor the historical limitations.
Everyone's already familiar with their old infantry waves, so seeing a horde of them running into an obvious death trap isn't just accepted, it's expected.
On the other hand, most people are also familiar with how hard core Russian military dudes (as well as criminals) can be, so they work just as well if you simply need a couple of highly skilled, ruthless professionals (with or without one token alcoholic).
They made some awesome technology, which of course means that if you're going to have a game with crazy tech, nobody is going to be surprised when it's Russian scientists who made said tech.
Russia itself is massive; you're going to have a hard time explaining how nobody noticed the massive tech labs and war factories in a densely populated country, but you almost expect there'd be a ton of crazy shit in Russia, not even particularly well hidden but remote enough that nobody realises it's there.
And finally, the Russians themselves seem to have exactly zero fucks to give about how games and other media portray them, so no need to worry about controversy.
Would I like to see some more variety? Sure. But I'm not the kind of politically correct dumbass that is offended because a game might potentially offend a group of people I don't belong to, even though that group of people doesn't seem to give a shit.
