Nah, you're fine, this one is just particularly contextualized by being a social phenomenon in the time it was new. If you missed it the first time around, its not likely to resonate with you. It's sort of like going back and watching Lost and wondering why people ever liked it.
That's how I felt about Lost when it was first on. I think I managed about 5 episodes.

Yeah, this happened to me with Always Sunny. I tried it last year and I got through 10 episodes... without laughing.

It's surely a type of lens flare: sometimes this causes general oversaturation, and sometimes it causes visual artefacts. This appears to be the latter.
